I have been watching combat and rat patrol, these guys can't hit anything, I see them shooting maching guns at 20 yards and missing, hidding behind bushes and the bushes defelting 50 cal ammo, my god hollywood sure got this all wrong. It is not even good watching. I know if I shot that bad in boot camp I would never made it out of boot camp.
I see them throwing smoke gernades and they explode, come on hollywood be more accurate. I also noticed on rat patrol, plastic flashlights.

LOL, was thinking the same thing last time I watched the Rat Patrol DVDs.

I remember seeing a website that listed lots of factional inaccuracies with lots of the aspects of the show.

They weren't half as bad as "The A-Team". They would bust off 10,000 or so rounds every episode and never hit anything. Nobody, even the bad guys, would get a scratch. I couldn't believe George Peppard stooped so low.

They had plastic trashcans on MASH...
I still enjoy my Rat Patrol DVD's. Still, after being spoiled on Private Ryan, and Band of Brothers, etc., those old shows do show their flaws. Rat Patrol should have been about the Brits, with a Yank tagging along.
The thing about the A-Team show, was NOT to show any fatalities. Some nanny-state rule for kid's TV, or somethin'.

When I was a kid my dad would complain about the war movies of the day. He said, "People would think the reason we won the war was that the Japs and Germans couldn't hit anything. Tell that to the boys lying in graves."

As a WWII vet that ticked him off.

The a-team was a pre watershed show, and a classic.

Ill hear no bad words about it!

In todays world its a true cult classic and the no-one gets killed thing is a running joke.

George Peppard was a good actor and pilot, he did his own flying in "The Blue Max". I wish he had not done the A Team, it was beneath him.

I thought the A-Team was pretty good. I didnt watch it alot, but the actors were great and it was hilarious.

But.... the Blue Max was BRILLIANT!! Great movie. That would be a good DVD to own.

Man, I dont think I have seen an episode of Rat Patrol in over a decade.

Always loved those shows & even as a kid wondered why they never hit anything.

To this day I still have a recurring nightmare that has this same theme.

I am back in the sand on point in western Iraq. We are moving through a rocky outcropping when suddenly this Iraqi soldier stands up 20yds in front of me. We are both surprised to see each other but I react more quickly & fire 1st. Only thing is I can seem to hit him. I empty the magazine & never hit squat. He smiles & shoulders his AK.... Thats when I wake up.

All these years & I am still plagued by that dream. :banghead:

If you want to see some pretty fair accuracy try 24 and NCIS. If only they would get rid of the sparking bullets and simulate recoil.:focus:

Yeah, they had to kill off Kate. In the name of accuracy, that sucked.

Rat Patrol and Combat were two of my favs back then.

If I'm not mistaken if you went back and watched just about any TV show of that era with shoot outs nobody ever hit much of anything. Wasn't that still a time in TV's history where the actual depiction of a person getting hit by a gunshot was still slightly taboo?

Does anybody remember the Rat Patrol model kit? It came complete with a plastic sand dune with modeled tire tracks in the sand. It was a very small scale. I remember the Jeeps as being about 2 or 3 inches long. I think I may have built this one more than once over the years.

Yeah it was a more tender time ... I was in the boyscouts when those shows were on tv. Well at least Rat Patrol. Combat was an earlier program and it came on nights either before or after 12 o'clock high, and unfortunately, during those days, I was young enough to still be under mom and dad's control and had a bed time of 8 p.m. Combat came on at 8:30 and 12 oclock high came on at 9:30 if I remember right.

I use to sneak down the stairs and sit in the dark and watch the shows while dad watched them. He never let on he knew I was there, but somehow I always felt he knew.

One thing that has always bugged me is the firing of LAWS-type rockets and RPG-type weapons in movies/tv. They always fire their rockets sooooooo toooo slowwww! Just like a model rocket on a string, which is usually how its done!:faint:

Blacksheep Squadron was another tv show well known for playing loose with the facts and getting very few names correct. Vella LaCava? Espritos Marcos?

they all just need guns like the six-shooters the old cowboy shows used...
never run out of ammo, and turn around and fire one shot and 10 bad guys fall off their horses....:faint:
