This is just further proving the point of the constant staff/admin attention that is required because of a select few individuals. You are not making things any easier on your membership here with your actions.

With all due respect, I thought I was communicating (the PM) with Ickie..or whatever his name is. Shame on me for not knowing who the players are in the SOH hierarchy.

Concerning your language in post #39. I removed a rather vulgar phrase from it.

From the wording of your post, it could either be a slip or it could be an outright attempt to also be banned from here too.
If you read the Terms of Use that you agreed to when you registered here, you would know that stuff will not be tolerated here.

An "outright attempt to be banned"? Why on earth would you think that? It was indeed a slip. The word you removed is not considered a profanity here, any more than John Thomas is in the States. Although the compound-verb in which it was used could indeed be considered somewhat graphical and unacceptable to some.

My apologies for the slip, it was unintentional and occured only by virtue of the flow of thought and typing in which I was studiously engaged.

Yes, I noticed that. Hence my reference to it. On it's own the word is entirely inoffensive, but coupled with the other it is indeed somewhat vulgar. Not for public consumption then, but admit it made you giggle. Just a bit. ;)
 
Sorry to see there is such a rift here. I just barely got started reading through all the excellent info and entertaining posts in these forums, and will be sorry to see them shut down. My thanks to all the folks who have been devoting their time and energies to keeping the OFF forums up and running smoothly. It is too bad we have to part ways. I wish each of you only the best in all your endeavours.

Its such a shame to be ending things this way,

After a few visits and the quality of help and advice I received with my initial posts I gladly responded to the banner in the OFF 3 forum soliciting web site maintenance funding. Two months later a SOH administrator with his nose obviously way out of joint posts that the OFF 3 site is going to be shut down. This results in alarmed questions (me included) asking if this is actually going to happen, why, etc. Then some people lose their cool and the next thing the fur starts flying and it rapidly became a one-upsmanship game culminating in the SOH administrators collectively supporting the decision after first over-ruling the initial SOH administrator decision/post to shut down the OFF 3 forum. Now it's deteriorated to the point of shutting down all of the OFF forums.

Ok, it's your store and you can dictate who comes in and who won't. But when I ask for a refund in a PM of my recent $20 donation (given I've only received 2 months of benefit) what I got in reply was :

"You made a donation to the
SOH which has been hosting the Off
forums there is a seperate off donation
for which we have been showing medals and that i guess is what you where donating for
but we have had enough of the
bad manners and lack of respect
from the forum
i have been in contact with Mark
and it seems that the off team does not need us
so bye bye

To be told in essence "tough, we're keeping your $20" with a curt "so bye by sorry thats the way it is".... well, suffice to say my reply was in somewhat like manner. As I said, I was new to SOH as well OFF 3 - in fact I'd never heard of SOH - but I sure won't forget it now...

I made a donation twice to OFF over the years and got a medal... woopee. I was pleased to help. I also recently gave a donation to SOH bandwidth appeal. Inow feel somewhat stung!

Oh Well as the old saying goes "All good thing must come to an end" I am grateful for the positive things that this forum has given me. First and foremost OFF, and just as important I have made some great friendships, that I hope to maintain in the future. Also there is another old saying that also applies " On to bigger and better things"
So thanks SOH, goodbye and seeya' around sometime.

Hello all! This is my first post and I'm sorry it's on such a sad occasion for most concerned. I've watched OFF develop thru the phases and years of hard work and I am very impressed with the devotion of all the devs and forum members. I've been very entertained, schooled, and pissed from the threads thru the years; NEVER a dull moment! I hope this will continue in the new OFF forum and that everyone in SOH and OFF can part ways as good friends. P.S. I recently purchased BHAH and enjoy it IMMENSLEY!
 
Well I also must say it has been fun.. I guess its time for OFF to have a true 'home of its own so to speak'.. well onward to bigger and better things!! Its been fun, but i do think we need to stop now and part ways.. Tommorrow is a new day over Flanders Fields...:amen::friday:

Not meaning to jump in at the last minute, but I've got to put in my 2 cents.

I'm sorry that OFF and SOH will parting company.

Since it's now a commercial venture, it's probably time for OFF to have its own place on the net, anyway.

However, I believe that just because OFF is no longer homebased here, there's no need to demand a refund or be angry at SOH. Remember, that there are lots of other aspects of flying that are covered here on SOH, and our donations have gone to support that. I, for one, still fly CFS-2 and SOH has been my repository of new craft and great advice since I started computer flying. I have not really seen anywere else where so many talented people are willing to upload their work for others to use and to enjoy. And trust me, I am grateful!

In the future, I will continue to participate in the OFF Forums at their new home, and I will also continue to lurk (and maybe even start participating) here in the SOH Forums.

In a nutshell: just becasue OFF is at another place, doesn't mean that I can't still enjoy SOH, too. Think of the two of them as your wife and your mistress. Enjoy them both, just don't let them meet on the street!
 
Personally I received compensation for my modest donation looooooong before I sent the pittance. No hard feelings on my part but I do wish the good people with SOH can place a little more focus on the more positive interactions between the parties. If you feel totally unappreciated that is unfortunate. Best wishes to our "brother" forums and thanks from me one last time. Cheerio:wavey:
