Txnetcop - I wrote 1989. I mis-spoke. I meant a 1998 Buick Riviera. Funny, you getting a Mercury Marquis, My company car was always a Mercury Marquis. I got a new one every other year. A tremendous car and the last of the limosines. Like riding in your living room. The Cadillac is a toy next to it and drives like it. The Merc along with the Ford Grand Vic is the last of the rear wheel drive cars with a full frame. Sad.

2007 Jeep Liberty....It's the second one I've owned in a row. Bought it used and paid cash.
I won't take a loan on a car, but then I tend to own them for a long time (130K plus typically), and buy them used.
Tell you what though...despite all the grousing I hear, cars are generally far better made now than they used to be. Change the oil twice year and listen for odd stuff....that engine will run forever. People forget that engines reaching 100K miles was an unusual thing in the "good 'ole days".
Friend of mine has a '65 Mustang 289 V8, which he loves. But, when I ask him what it's like to drive his answer is "like a car that was made in 1965." He said the Geo Tracker he had in school drove better.

This is not a favorite of the green crowd.Mine's a 2005 Dodge 3500 Dually 4x4 diesel 6 speed.325 HP and 600 lb/ft of torque.20 mpg if drivin right.Pros:Not too many people pull out in front of me.Cons:A trip to the tire store puts a serious dent in the wallet.

1994 Pontiac Bonneville with 193,000 miles on it. It still runs good and averages 25-28 mpg. Living in Michigan has created a a few rust problems but Duct Tape solves most of that. :amen:

I used to own this. That thing could climb walls! It was awesome. The V-4 version had reliability issues, I heard, but the V-6 was solid. It had a 1/4" steel skid plate under it. Not like the Ford Explorer I also owned once, which had a plastic "skid plate". Sadly, this vehicle is no longer with us, having been run into one day in 1999 by a teenager who had just recieved his license.

Ditto sorry I did too...anyway a fabulous machine. I think the reason we didn't get another one was that was the last year of the Riviera, not sure. We almost bought an Olds to replace it but got a Taurus DOHC V6 and then our Merc. I liked the Taurus but just not roomy enough to buy another. We are at the age we just like a big car with lots of space...looks like it will eventually go the way of the DODO Bird. Oh well, fun while it lasted. Oh Donna told me to let you all know that on our last trip to Alabama to see my kids we drove at speeds of 60-65 mph and averaged 32 mpg both ways. That was an eye-opener as it is fuel injected I had been told it didn't matter what speed you drove at by a Ford mechanic.

had a small block 267ci , 4.4l V8 ( in fact the second smallest V8 ever to be installed on a camaro ) .
now i am car-less and on the hunt for another car , something along the lines of a mitsubishi starion TSI ( had one years ago and she had the best laid out interior i had ever seen with a great engine ) , nissan 200/240SX , mid 90s toyota celica fastback or VW golf/jetta GTI/TDI .
and next year , i'll be able to get a motorbike again as well , will be looking for a ducati monster or yamaha Vmax

I have a 2008 HHR, panel version. I chose the panel as it has no back seats; only a rubber matted deck, with storage areas. My Rottweiler LOVES to go places with me!

A car that I owned many many years ago that really impressed me was a fully restored BMW 3.0s Bavaria. It had been rebuilt from bumper to bumper, with an engine totally redone and sparkling new. What a dream to drive on winding roads. It 'consumed' corners like a rail car. It purred even when you had the pedal down. That slanted straight six was something to behold.....

It's interesting to see what people drive in other countries or even on other continents!
The traffic in Europe is much busier than it is in the US I think, and the price of fuel is a lot higher, so we generally drive around in smaller cars over here.
Cars the size of a VW Golf/Rabbit/Jetta are sold the most over here; you will hardly see any pick up trucks at all. A Merc E or S-class are big cars for European standards, and most of the US cars mentioned above are not even sold here, so if you really want one you need to import it yourself or let a specialized company do it for you.
