• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

What makes a person snap like this>> 12 killed, 31 wounded

Back on track, the Army is crediting 2 women civilians for for stopping and assisting during the attack...

Sgt. Kimberly Munley of Fort Hood's civilian Police department, shot the gunman 4 times, despite being hit herself by the attackers gunfire. She is in stable condition.

Amber Bahr, an Army nutritionist, put a tourniquet on a wounded soldier and carried him to safety during the gunfire. After taking care of other wounded, she only finally realized that she had been shot as well.

Again every one is trying to be politically correct on this. If we do not wake up and smell the coffee this will only get worse, and our sons and our grandson, and theres will be having to deal with theses people.

Thanks Dain for explaining the basics on their religion or ethics. It does help us to understand.

To me, this sounds like the beginning of armageddon. Evil versus good.

One religion teaching kindness, love, compassion, forgiveness. Another teaching murder, hatred, unforgiveness, even going so far as to be a weapons and armament storage fascility, place for organizing attacks, and teaching things like car bomb assembly.

That is a huge chasm between two peoples... or religions or philosophies...

I for one would like to see the use of oil no longer be needed. I think that would be awesome...

God bless America!

Yeah, well, as you know, Bill...

Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all started with the same father, Abraham: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham

If you must absolutely obey your system of beliefs, it's not a good idea to have someone in the armed forces of a country who believes in freedom and defends it, which is contrary to those same said beliefs.
I know, that's obvious. I had to say it.

Islam teaches none of those, and to make those statements shows ignorance on your part.

I dont wish to turn this into a religious debate. But I do wish to state a 'technical' detail to the teachings of islam.

In one of their scriptures, talking about 'their' enemy, the Jews and the Christians, Mohammed says that they (the islams) should mercifully slit the throats of their enemies (the Jews and the Christians) as like a young deer foe.

I do not have the exact location in their scripture for that above quote, but I remember it well. (I had heard of this on a show on the Christian network on the birth of islam, and it explained how their religion started).

To continue on backing up what I am saying with real evidence, its known that all the terrorist groups are bringing in members to their groups at the islam synagogues. Many have been stormed (here in America) and found weapons caches.

I have seen countless programs on CNN, on 60 Min's, and several other news programs on this exact subject, recruiting and basic terrorism going on in all the synagogues.

So... Dont take it up with me.. Take it up with them. Go tell them, not me.

Im for peace first...

Misinformation is the enemy of credibility. While such verses in the Qu'ran exist, similarly controversial verses may also be found in the bible. It is important to add that the Bible and Qu'ran contain lots of the same stuff. Stories from both the Old, and New Testament are contained within it. Islam is not a polar opposite of Christianity as many make it out to be. Islamic teachings recognize not only the existence of Jesus Christ, but his status as a prophet of God, and his miracles and good works. It is important to engage in discussions about these sort of things, and I would be happy to continue this further if you wish to.

I've got to stop myself from commenting any further though. SOH isn't the place to discuss religious topics...

What a horrible incident. :frown:

It would be a good discussion but I suggest you bring it to the Quartermoon Saloon (Oso's). Simply because sooner or later somebody's goint to say "f**k Mohammed", and it'll all go downhill from there. . .

And Lionheart, there are NO Muslim synagogues - those are Jewish. Muslim religious centers are called mosques.

....I agree with Snuffy. Bring it over to the Quarter Moon Saloon. That said,...it took a fair amount of will power NOT
to throw my .02 cents worth in on this despicable act of domestic terrorism. For sure this discussion would be stopped.

In seminary (I attended Fuller Theological and Dallas Theological Seminary) we were taught to deal with facts, and then compare religions. This site below should help those who really want to know the differences-then take it to the Quarter Moon Saloon please

I read the Qur'an many times in Comparative Religion Classes and in spite of what djscoo has to say about it, the religions are vastly different even though they take similar approaches to the view of God. Unfortunately Sunni and Shiites have been killing each other and those of other faiths for quite some time over doctrine. Granted they are the more extreme in their faith as you will find most followers of Islam are peace-loving and have made many contributions to the world we live in. Unfortunately the naive among us believe that there is nothing to fear from the radical Islamic groups that are actively carrying out Jihad against America and other nations. That somehow it is America's fault that we are in a war with these extremist. Before we ever went to Iraq they were warring with us by bombings at embassies, World Trade Center parking lots, ships of the US Navy etc, Ad nauseam.

I worked in the Middle East for three years cleaning up oil spills. I have met many factions so I think I am qualified to give an opinion, but I think the chart speaks for itself as does history if we care to learn from it. OK, the Quarter Moon Saloon is open.

There have been a few here who've got it.

Islam is supposed to be a peaceful religion, but it's not. That's all there is to it. Those of other religions may want peace, but Islam teaches that those of other religions must be destroyed so that Allah may conquer. Not prevail, conquer. I majored in Arabic and I've spent years in the middle east.

That's the way it is.

There are some things that people must realize, especiall those in America that haven't been overseas much. They think the world reacts to them; it doesn't. Just because an American is "understanding" and "compassionate" doesn't mean that a mujahideen won't murder them in cold blood on the streets at 2 oclock in the afternoon. Believe me, I've seen it.

You can't reason with those that believe with full unwaivering faith that they're on a mission from god.

Cheezy flier nailed it. People do horrible acts in the name of every religion, but usually lead figureheads in most civilized religions such as buddhism and christianity will denounce and condemn horrible and barbaric acts. Muslims rejoice when a mujahideen slays innocent people.
