Where are the trains?

Hi

I’ve flown in OFF and ETO the last couple of years, but never seen any trains. :blind:

Do they only show up in specific circumstances?

Cheers

OFF I don't know.

If you are running ETO in No Spawn mode, this is the reason why you don't have trains. Trins, ships or vehicules are generated by ground.spawns (spawn folder).

Make sure your flying over Germany to see the trains. They run very efficiently. If you're over England you've got no chance. Probably the wrong type of leaves on the railway lines or "This train will terminate at Little Piddle station. Please board the bus outside the railway station for connecting routes".... Look for the buses instead :icon_lol:

Never mind

I just had my second cup of coffee, and realized how the spawn selector works. When you turn them off, guess what? They're off! And when you turn them back on, guess what? They're on!
Moving right along, now.....:redf:

In ETO, this is the entire content of my Ground.spawns file. Is this right? Never noticed it till now.

Nice one! :icon_lol:

Nope

There are 8 ground.* named files. Depending upon what spawn selection you have chosen they will be renamed to ground.spawns.

A typical ETO expansion ground spawn will look like this, but have different call outs depending upon the spawn setting. This is the .ETOax for the axis side campaign. Which would be re-named to ground.spawns if you selected ETO campaign axis side.

RailTraffic.spawns will also call out rail traffic spawns.

...Hey O.T., (and everyone) Are you wise to the beautiful 'Blood & Custard' coaches the ETO gang came up with? They're beautifully done and appear connected from car to car--:medals:

Also, quite a while back at my request, Jno Uk (sp?) came up with an engine-tender combo (complete with effects) which I'm surprised I don't see on your screenies. IMHO the MS loco is a lovely model but seeing it chug-chugging around with no tender just bothered the :censored: outta me. :a1451:

I quite agree; a steam engine without a tender is like, well, I don't know what! I looked for Johno_UK's train, and didn't find it in the warbirds libraries. Any idea where I might get it???

With my train spotters anorak on, 'Blood and custard' coaches in the UK are a '50's thing. No idea about continental liveries though!

In the wartime UK it would have been SR Green, LMS Maroon, GWR Chocolate & Cream and LNER Teak (with many variations inbetween). :)

Problem with Allied Train Spawns

A while back I noticed a problem that would stop allied trains spawning prior to 1942 in ETO. It may have been fixed in the last update because I raised the matter earlier. In the vehicles folder, the american locomotive's xdp file had a start date of sometime in 1942. So in Era 1 or Era 2, flying over allied territory you wouldn't see friendly trains, unless the ground spawns specifically called for another nationality of train (eg. Belgian or French).

So the first thing to check is the US locomotive's xdp file to see when the loco is available.

Yes, when you are in 'No Spawn Mode', it means that random spawns are disable, this is to revent single missions to be polluted by them. Smply change the spawn mode and it will work.

Hi guys

Thanks a lot for your advises!

I've usually used the spawn "Axis side attack in the west campaign".

My sliders are at 5, except for Scenery detail which is at 3.

I've flown mostly QC missions lately, testing the scenery I'm working on. Does the trains work also in QC?

I checked the a_locomotive.xdp and it EnteredService="01/01/1942" (ETO 1.40)
Doesn't the ground spawns call for another nationality of train in earlier dates?

Cheers

Thanks LZ. See my revised post about this: When I had my second cup of coffee, I realized this and felt sheepish for posting before at least 2 cups were in me.:sheep:
