Where did the .com name go?

Seems to me that the moment they put up that login box they are using deceptive practices to gather information illicitly.
A clear description of the issue: State that the site is a "phishing site," "spoof site," or "scam site" designed to deceive users.
Even though they own the domain now imo they are most assuredly, at a minimum, a scam site at this point. Anywhoo just my 10 cents, inflation you know, on the subject.

Now, that I'm semi-officially back kinda sorta, I hate to hear about losing the .com domain. But it's just a domain name. SOH has always been more about the people than anything.

With the possible exception of Panther, I'm probably the last of the original gang that started Sim-Outhouse up after the hostile takeover of Combat Flight Center. I was there from about 4 or 5 days after CK started it up in November of 1998. I stayed with it until early Jan 2020 when wife took a freak fall and broke her neck at C1 & C2 which made her an instant quadriplegic and I had to shift everything over to her care. She passed away from septic infection a couple of months ago and I'm slowly putting life back together.

Sorry for your loss Willy. Hang tough.

Here's an idea... Start spamming the entry page with made-up credentials like this:
Username: Sookon
Password: D33znutz321
On a sidenote, I mentionned what happened to the old domain name to a couple of (ethical) hacker friends of mine. They have a virtual server farm running somewhere and they started a DDOS attack on the old domain. Apparently the .com server is pretty robust. ;)

Has anyone thought about doing something like a search and replace for the .com links in the.org site? There has been several times I clicked on a download link in the forums and it directed me to the .com site

That would be prohibitively difficult. Not only had the .com suffix changed into .org, the rest of the URL has changed as well. What you propose is feasible, but the links wouldn't work.

Remember, we're talking about thousands of posts and links.

@wbuchart that would be a good question for Xenforo support. Can you give me an example that I can use.

IfI could do it the best that might happen is we replace the .com with .org and the link fails as the rest of the link is wrong. Still with asking.

Just now, I had to edit a link in the CFS3 forum and change .com into .org. Of course the link didn't work anymore, but at least the members are safe, and so is the site.

consider also please changing to .org, the .com links found in MaskRider Addon Scenery for CFS2 https://www.sim-outhouse.org/MaskRider2008/ in particular, the links under Help & Info https://www.sim-outhouse.org/MaskRider2008/basic_installation_info_for_maskrider_scenery-bottom.html pertaining to:

Ok I hadn't thought of those as they all should have been relative links.

Unfortunately it makes it difficult for older members who just enjoy reading posts to download files.

DD; Wierd thing happened here re; this site old name. Recently I switched to a newer top rated VPN without changing any site addys. When I tried to access this site I kept getting directed to that other site and the VPN's anti-virus refused the addy and wouldn't allow me entry into the site.. Saying it is a site filled with viruses and worse. Took awhile but eventually ( quite evidentially as I am posting this here) the VPN verified this address I submitted for verification, and allowed entry. Just thought it was weird to use the good address (here) and be directed to the other site.
Just thought you should be aware if others have the same problem.

The update on the dot com name is we missed the window to buy it. The information I was given on when it could be purchased was wrong. By the time I started watching it to buy it again it had already been bought.

I was told it would be in suspension for 30 days during which we could renew it at a penalty. That of course would still not have given us control of the control panel. It only would have renewed it in Frank's name.

After 30 days there is another 40 days we had to wait until it would hit a random 1 to 7 days time where it would become available at midnight.

At day 70 I started checking every day until I figured out it had already been bought.

The truth is 30 days to 75 days is the random time when it would have posted for sale. It sold a little over a month after it expired. I was rather pissed that I was given that bogus information. I don't know if it was bogus or if the rules changed since the time I was told how it worked.

Creating the .org name was the plan to continue the name and it has worked out well so far. We will just have to let the .com name go.
Still can't download anything!!
