Where were you Born?

Heaton Hospital, Montpelier Vermont. Mom carried me almost 10 months before I decided to arrive. Almost 11 pounds (ouch)

That's probably why I'll be late for my own funeral.. I was late entering, why not be late leaving the party?

I still live less than 15 miles from where I was born. Heaton hospital is now Heaton House, a nursing home.

My dad was was in his 50's when I was born (my mom was his second wife) While most people my age (early 40's) have grandparents who were WWII vets, My dad was.

Army combat engineer. Built B-29 runways on Okinawa in '45. My dad passed in 1999 at the age of 86. My mom passed in 91 at the age of 63.

I'm an only child and my nearest cousin in age is nearly 20 years older then me. Except for Patsy, My adopted Korean cousin from SOCAL. You know how hard it is to not get distracted at age 14 by your very hot Asian 17 year old "cousin"? :icon_eek:

My uncle Orland's second wife...Kathy....had 2 children when they got together..meaning, she came into the family with kids from her first marriage. Casey was 2 months younger than me, Cindy was 3 years older. I was 12 or 13 when Orland and Kathy got married....pretty much smack dab in the middle of the Hormonal Nuclear War that boys go through. Suddenly, there is this super hot chick around...but I'm really not supposed to have dirty thoughts about her because she is my cousin...even though we aren't really related other than through a piece of paper that says that my uncle is her mom's husband. The following 3 or 4 years were pretty hard. Shortly after turning 18, Cindy moved to California for college. About a year later I was at my best friend's house and he had just gotten the new issue of Club magazine in the mail.....now for those who do not know, Club magazine was a raunchier version of Playboy....much raunchier. Bub, my best friend since age 9, tossed me the magazine and says "check out the babe on pages 23 to 30". I flip through the mag to find the babe he wants me to see....and fell out of my chair....cause right there in her birthday finest was no other than my "cousin" Cindy. I did not know if I should look at them or not...I mean after all, she is my cousin...but only by paper. Okay, Okay...I looked...SHE WAS FREAKING HOT!

I was born in NYC and remember being sent home early from school the day when JFK was shot. For years I was told I must have been adopted as I didn't act like anyone else in the family! Most of my family here is either NYPD or NYFD. I returned here to NYC area a few years back to help my mom and my Dad passed last year...I miss NC very much...the laid back country life with living off the land and hunting or fishing anytime I wanted is darn near now impossible. Funny how life can change so quickly sometimes...

I am very intriqued by all of us adopted folks... Who knew?

I must confess.... I was adopted too. Never found out until my mom passed away in 07. Papers handed to me by my AH half brother afterwards. And yeah, I'm a bit bitter I was never told by anyone.... including relatives.

Brian, it's hard not to get distracted by any "hot" female relative. And I've got a few that were hot back then, that were not relatives. But didn't know how unrelative they were. ;)

i actually found out
that my oldest sister was adopted
no one in my family ever told me or her
i only found out when i had a newspaper round
and had a chat with a customer over a cup of tea
and she asked which one are you!
is that your real father
i was shocked well it was a small village and people then knew everything
after that i thought well its not a big deal
but actually it is not for me but my sister
she spent a long while looking for her real parents
never found them
today we are not close
that is sad, she is and always has been my sister
but once she found out
lives changed
they say blood matters but brother and sisters
who grew up together
matters more to me
sorry for the rant just got me thinking

Born in Holbeach,Lincolnshire, England in June 1952.

Dad was a Policeman and in those days Police officers often lived in houses attached to the Police Station - so 'Police Station' is the address on my birth certificate. That part of England is very flat and produces millions of flowers so it has the second name of New Holland.

On an aviation note, Lincolnshire was also known in WW2 as 'Bomber County' due to its huge number of RAF/ USAAF bases. During the scary days of the Cold War in the 60's, my pal and I would often sneak up to the perimeter fence of RAF Waddington and take in the parked up Vulcans. They were all tooled up with their nuclear payloads ready to go at a moment's notice.

Thank God they never had to.

B.T.W . The avatar isn't me, it's a guy from a popular 80's British comedy series called Allo, Allo !set in France in WW2. It basically took the mickey out of every country involved in the war and remains popular to this day.

Sorry to hear the Henry. Hopefully the two of you will get together someday for a good talk. It's tough enough to know you're adopted, but tougher yet not to know and then find out from someone else. I think I know how she feels... and it's not a good feeling.

Give her a call.... you never know until you try.

On another note.... this is the first time I've said anything to anyone about it. The wife yes but that's all.... and I never talked more about it to her even.

Last To Know

My Mom never told me about my real dad until I was 13. I was a liitle pissed at first but when I realized that all my Uncles, Aunts and Grandparents on both my Mom's side and my Pa's side knew and did not care it was enough for me. My 'Pa' raised all 3 of us kids exactly the same, so I never had any reason to complain or be resentful.

Okay okay ... I confess ... speaking of Hot cousins ...

Berlin, in the then socialist part of the city.

Lived half a click away from the wall and guess whose parents took turns (just in case the authorities changed their minds) for a west german coffee and beer on that fateful night? :d

Started out in Tipton , IN & wound up Kokomo ,
Was comin out tail first & had to go to a bigger hospital.
Guess the light was hurtin my eyes .

Poor Mom

Sad when Kokomo had a bigger hospital :d (I would have guessed that they would just drive/fly you to Indy - it's only three times further...)

Speaking of which (not really), what is it about Louisiana? Seems popular. :wiggle:

Oh man, I knew I missed out on something in my life, but couldn´t place it until now:sheep:

I was an "early". My mom had to to descend the ladder when redecorating the house to get to the hospital quick enough - maybe that´s why I still work in the business... The birth took place, how exciting, in a hospital and I was kept there for a while with only nurses and machines to hug. I still can´t stand hospitals, even more because being early caused some severe health troubles in my childhood (including longer periods of hospital-food).

I was born im my mom´s hometown (Duelken), little medieval village on the lower rhine area. Still feel home around this area, though living in the bigger neighboring city now.
