• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Willy's Flight of the Gee Bee to Oz

Getting ready to head out from Rome to Athens. Depending on how my fuel situation looks when I get to Brindisi.

Had to abort due to r/l issues. Hopefully I can pick this back up tomorrow.

Just made the turn to Brindisi and picked up the NDB. Might have to stop there to refuel. Going straight to Athens is looking less and less doable.

Day II, October 21, 1934

Rather than risk having to attempt a night landing with no lights in Athens (at an airfield that I've never been to before), I decided to spend the night at Brindisi and take off at before dawn to go on to Athens. Setting up for take off now...

Looks like LCRA in Cyprus is going to be it. Probably about another hour or so.

Head East, when you spot a large river follow it South East, look for a big lake and then it's about five minutes East of there. Worked for me!

There's sure not much in the way of NDBs on this one! Just trying to hold course and see what happens.

Got lucky and found that teeny tiny NDB near the Syrian border and made my turn to Baghdad. 250nm with no radio compass. Sounds like a good way to get lost to me...

On another note... I think my old rollerball mouse is about to give up the ghost.. darn left click button is only working about a third of the time.
