• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

    Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Window 7 and FS9 cfg file

I have looked everywhere on my new computer and can't locate the evasive main FS9 file location.

I need add some lines to it but the FS9 cfg must be hidden too goodentieght.

Can anyone help me to find it on this Windows 7 program platform?

I got it.

Had to click Computer then select Tools, then select Folder Options, then select View, then find Hidden Files and Folders and select to unhide the hidden folders.

Then the hidden appdata files folder started to show in the folders structure. C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9

Would of eliminated this post but couldn't.
Maybe it will help someone else out down the line.

This is the way I found mine, which is rather circuitous:

In Administrator mode, click on Computer on your Windows menu, then select "C" drive (I have nearly all my FS2004 stored on a larger, spare drive but Windows registers some aspects of the program on the primary C drive).

Click on "Users" and look for a file with your name on it (in my case, Neil) which will appear to be padlocked. Operating in Administrator mode will allow you to open the file.

Look inside for a file called AppData, open it and click on a file called "Roaming". Inside Roaming you should find a file labeled Microsoft and the FS9 file inside it. Inside the FS9 file you should find the FS9 CFG file.

I was going to write some things on why MS made such changes to files systems, but it wouldnt do any good...

Thanks Neil. I couldn't see the AppData files unless I chose to show all hidden files, regardless of the security setting.

I like the idea of the tight admin security that the Windows 7 provides but Active Camera in FS9 will not be functional unless my computer admin security is set to completely off. That's even with setting FS9 to have Admin authority. Active Camera won't work unless I set my system security to completely off. I can turn the security off and on, back and forth, but each change to the security requires a computer restart, which is an added pain.
 
Once you have set the hidden files to visible you can go to the folder directly by typing %appdata% in the command window of your computer where it says computer> (not Internet Explorer).

YOu will be in a folder also containing a folder called "Microsoft". This contains a folder called "FS9" which contains the config file.
