within inches of a low flying jet

we need the version with much higher resolution. Either way, it's not several meters.

Ok, check it out. The Mirage F1 wingspan is 8.44 meters (27.3 FT). I froze the film at a point where we can see the shadow, and use this as a reference point to try to measure how high off the ground it is. We mark off the wing span, call it 8.44 meters, rotate it 90 degrees. Now we can compare "units of altitude" with the known wing span." Looks like there are 3.5 "units of altitude" within 8.44 meters, and that comes out to 2.41 meters, or 7.8 feet. Approximately!

That sounds fairly agreeable, and we can safely conclude that this fighter flew within two feet our sophomoric clown here.

PRB, I got lost at the transition to "units of altitude". I really think that the combination of video compression, and the scale being thrown off by the perspective makes it hard to analyze the video it face value.

That said, here's some more math...

The wingspan of the Mirage is 8.44 meters

The height of the average Frenchmen, age 20-29 is approximately 1.74 meters

Your way is simpler than mine! :icon_lol: The number of feet above our Fearless Frenchman's head is probably in the single digits!

I was there the day the F-1 low fly over was filmed. The plane is not nearly as low as it looks. The guy standing in the middle of the runway is a freaking giant. He is 15 feet, 4 inches tall. He used to play pro basketball in Latvia, but was arrested in a goat smuggling ring. Latvians take their goats very seriously. Anyhow, after he was booted from Latvian basketball, the only job he could get was with the Patagonian Air National Guard as a run way marker. Those headphone things...they are actually two super bright flash lights. When planes are coming in toward the runway...he goes out and stands there, facing in the direction the plane is coming from....the planes see the two bright lights and can then more easily find the runway. It's a pretty miserable job, but what do you do after being arrested for goat smuggling?

LOL, OBIO, that's the first intelligent interpretation I've seen in this whole thread, lol. . .

I know you didn't mean anything by it, but what gain did you imagine resulting from calling everyone's posts in this thread unintelligent?:kilroy:

In video photography, "location, location, location" is as important as it is in Real Estate! Camera location can distort the viewers perception to an unbelievable degree. It has to do with intentionally altering "perspective" and the tricks it plays on our eyes.

That's what is at work here. That jet is many feet above the man on the runway but camera perspective makes it look very close.

(yezzz - in before the close !!) :running:

It's amazing how much better homes look in pics.

Personally, I don't think this jet is so far away that it's that big of a difference.

Well it would be a pretty good interpretation...if it were true!
Firstly, it was only alleged goat smuggling
Secondly, he is Welsh, not Latvian, and
Lastly, he is a midget from Penmaenmawr, standing only 1m tall.
This means that the plane missed him by 6 millimeters!

You conspiracy theorists sure know how to ruin a guy's day!
