workin woody,back before it became the icon of WOO,this is at the Ernie Purcell speedway Grass Valley Ca,..just down from the airtanker base....they used to fly over the track as they flew out to fires.well i suppose they still do passover the fairgrounds...lol...other old pics from the track back in the day..old california modifieds and stock cars...

well im not claiming those pics are mine....not in the least...that wasnt the point,,,,now i feel bad...i was just saying how workin woodie was a northern california creation..and i happened to be around when it first debut'd ,and well ernie was a local hero and i like to share,,and i think anyone that knows sprint car racing knows who Jimmy Sills is..and he happens to be a "local " also....and the pic is of him at grass valley...my early stompin ground...these come from a Facebook page where several of us are trying to reopen the track at the nevada county fairgrounds,the man who pushed for many years to get it shut down died,and the oppositsion has died with him..its just a mater of convincing the new fairboard it would be a "good thing" to do.the pics are being posted to spread around and share with other racing fans.

but i do in fact have a large collection of pics from west capitol speedway,placerville,chico,auburn,grass valley and roseville..i also have pics of the speedway bikes from the state fairgrounds in sacramento..guys like my friends steve and mike bast..
