Do you know what I remember most about MP (mainly IL2)? The cheats and their cheating. And do you know who one of the people working on RoF is? Yep, you guessed it...one of the biggest and most notorious of IL2's cheats.

So you'll have to excuse me if I don't get all bent out of shape with excitement over an MP sim being developed by him and a bunch of his russian pals. Oh yeah, don't need a crystal-ball to see where that whole shebang is headed.

Looks fantastic, sounds fantastic. But...you know...if it had a dynamic campaign I'd buy it, no question of it. But an MP only? No, I don't think so.

And that's not even mentioning the other inevitability...cue the...tada...! Heeeeere's NACA CHART! The endless endless endless bickering to come about FM this and FM that, the rows, the bannings, the acrimony, the accusations...

Oh look...here's OFF. A masterpiece, made by people with passion and integrity. All on my PC and nobody else can spoil it. :):):)

Lol one thing that always amazes me about SOH here is that the members allow trolls - these posts about ROF are generally posted to incite...seen it since day one with P1.

Has anyone posted OFF vids on ROF forums? - why not do it its easy register under any new name and go wild....and watch the reactions!!!

:rapture:

Lol

I too love the look of ROF and if I wanted to post something about it I would post in a ROF forum?

Well it looks awesome ...but did anyone noticed the signals in the Net Team vid ....very impressive.

1:25 - Pilot signals or does something in his cockpit ! (awesome)
4:14 - The other pilots sends up a green flare (used to signal going home i think?)

That is awesome !!!:jump:

What amazes me is that a dedicated team of 30-odd people are incapable of producing a dynamic campaign in the first place. And decided to start arse-about-face and make the first flyables end-of-war items. There's logic..."buy the add-on planes, work BACKWARDS to the crappier ones, having already had the best first." From a purely marketing standpoint that was just plain stupid.

And then there's...gee...here we are chaps, online...oh look, there's the russian squad! Wow, look how good they are! Lordy me, if I didn't know better I'd swear they had different planes to the rest of us!" Hmm...it's not what you know out there on the front, it's who you know in the a/c supply-chain. :icon_lol: "Gentlemen, start your consoles...I mean engines...the start-up procedure is key-code X! Yes, it's a prototype...the world's first super-charger and cannon-equipped Spad/DVII! But only if you're russian."

I'd sooner eat snails than go online with ANYTHING made by that lot. Which is a shame, because I'm sure there are a lot of them who are completely legit. But you tend to be known by the quality of the people you associate with. RoF...Rise of Fiddlers. :icon_lol:

Water from a poisoned well.

It's a shame, and has been said many times before...But, it's geared towards multiplayer, and as such, no-one will be allowed to mod it..So, it's already lost half it's potential customers!....Then of course, after you buy the game with it's two aircraft...you will need to pay for more!..... what happens if you have a bought plane, and others dont?..... You don't even get to use it!!

I will defo buy it (I buy every damn Sim!) and I will view it as open mindedly as I can...but I have a bad feeling about it's longevity!

I would have bought it, more in sheer desperation than anything else. Didn't have a clue about OFF until I saw the front-page SimHQ article. One read of that and I was off (har!) to buy it.

How to best sum up the difference between OFF and RoF?

OFF is medium-quality graphics on the cover of a full-blown novel.

RoF is superb-quality graphics on the cover of a pamphlet.

The FMs? Entirely subjective, to a point. And OFF's exceed that point with room to spare. DM? Ditto.

What we really have here is a question of mentality. Some like their simming shallow, some like it deep. RoF is for the paddlers, down the shallow end, OFF is for the swimmers, up the deep end.

Society goes forth with cooperation. Even from the "clash" between two "opposing" teams derives a better future for WWI aviation games. But regarding the fact that WWI aviation games are not many, we can see here that RoF can get from OFF and vice versa. So in the future we can expect games ten times better than today's because the developers from one group, get ideas from the other. I dont care if RoF was made by "Hackers" or "Russians" . Can they make a game? Yes? So whats the fuss? Imagine two cities completely isolated from each other. We leave them like this for a few years and then letting them communicate. They are going to grow faster and better after letting them cooperate.
Yes, RoF looks nice. But is it gonna have depth as a game?
My guess is, that its goinna be like any other of today's games. Exciting trailers, eye candy, but after a week of playing, you will get bored of it.
So what then? I think that RoF can take many stuff from OFF. But since this is OFF's forum, I think that some stuff can be taken from RoF to implement in OFF at the future.
In my opinion, OFF is an amazing game. OFF is a thousand times better than RoF.

It kind of puts me in mind of one of those pyrotecnic Hollywood Blockbuster movies!...fine the first time you watch it..for the pretty explosions and stuff...But with no storyline....you are left with just a pretty explosion I suspect!

Just read this post Siggi!...I think you've hit the nail square on the head!!!!

The endless endless endless bickering to come about FM this and FM that, the rows, the bannings, the acrimony, the accusations...

Oh, the irony! Just weed through this forum and you'll find all of that. (And, for clarity, that is an observation and not an attack.)

Although I don't get much flying time, I've really enjoyed OFF BHaH (despite Jasta 11 being ordered to fly 50 miles behind the lines to strafe an airfield...just didn't happen). I'm also looking forward to ROF (and BoBSoW, for that matter) and, furthermore, rooting that it will be good. Why wouldn't anyone want that? The last thing we need is another CFS3, although I guess in the end that sim turned out to be a positive because it led to OFF.

I understand a dislike for MP, and I understand a dislike for SP. I've seen both camps rip the other for years. That'll never change, and I'm not trying to convince anyone to like ROF or, elsewhere, OFF. (Well, that's partially true. I've only seen ROF alpha trailers so I can't comment with accuracy about the pending sim, and I have talked favorably about OFF elsewhere.) What do I care what people play or don't play? I'll be playing both! I don't listen to just one band, or eat at just one restaurant, or read just one book, or eat the same food every day, or have sex in one position. I have my favorites but certainly I can enjoy the others. And if next year Joe Blow's Electronics in Ponca City Oklahoma comes out with a "The Great War: Fokker Scourge" sim that focuses on the early war, I'll buy that, too, so it can sit alongside OFF and ROF and FB and WoV and FE and FSX and BoB and etc.

The thing that I would be concerned about with respect to hand signals is how the hell are you going to see them when in flight from your pit?
With text up on screen maybe?

Flares maybe ....

We have considered hand signals and flares for waypoint action and other situations but realised quite early on that many/most would probably be missed by the player - so we are not convinced about this yet...

The main problem is that we have no peripheral vision in sim - alas.....just a flat screen!

Edit: This post was not edited by Put Put nor Tup Tup nor anyone else other than WM... I think.

I don't know; I saw the hand signal very clearly on You Tube, and the video was only 7.25" x 4.25" big. Surely it would be even more noticeable when full-screen on a 22" monitor or even a 19" monitor. Of course, signals can be missed or go awry; look at Pearl Harbor.

lol sure but it assumes then that you fly along constantly watching your leader and close enough to see it/him/his hand at all times ...and yes no problem there they used to do this - but how many users will be able to keep this up what happens if you miss it etc etc?

This means, and I bet there will be, on screen text as well as the hand signal to alert you...... and text in sim IMHO means more gamey....but as usual YOMV.

I quess they are hoping that like minded people will form there own squadrons or something, because all that I envision is a bunch of yahoos taking on the world. Typical mp stuff of name calling, revenge tk, rage quits and no real teamwork. I hope I am wrong.

You won't be.

If it had all the planes from the get-go an online war would be an option, but even then it'd need to be ruled with a rod of iron.

It'll be Hyper-Lobby dog-fight server crap all over again. Air-rambo, with the best looking planes in the world.

Like I said, what a tragic waste.

Actually, this thread started out as a direct response to provocative posts on the SimHQ RoF Forum. And it has degenerated at both fora and is approaching behaviour typical of the Il2 flame wars. Not productive!!!! :173go1:
This ugly "mine is better - your's sucks" is driving good people away. :argue:
Enough already!!!!

Hello,
i think from the videos this sim is phantastic. No campaign is definitely a major drawback, but a campaign mode is currently discussed, so maybe we will see that.

But regarding MP - so online and MP options of a sim are a bad thing because there may be people who cheat ? Same as with RedBaron i'd say.
Guess it depends on which server and with which persons you "fly" - simple as that. Make a password-protected one for the people you know and have fun.

Only problem I see is if the developers of ROF decide to use special servers where you have to pay for online sessions, like in World of warcraft - but there is no hint up to now they would do that.

Greetings,
Catfish

Oh yea, what a crappy sim.

Lets go over there and burn them at the stake. how could on line multiplay missions ever be considered as fun . what a bunch of crap this multiplay scenerio is. yea, i wonder if they even support it. well probably just so they can cheat and figure out a way to get the upper hand in a multiplay scenerio where they cheat againt the ai.
yea thats it. you guys have hit the nail on the head this time. wow you can be so proud of your trash talking crap.
good job boys. you have lowered the standard around here to a new all time low.
you ,the O.F..F. forume, and this sim have seen the last of me. do me a favour and NEVER apply at my forume as this disease should stay contained over here where it belongs.
WHAT A SHAMEFULL PATHETIC excuse for what i once considered a great forume.
the sad part is you will carry on oblivious to the destructive nonsence that is portrayed here in this thread from the top down.
