KA-3B Skywarrior

Just saw your post about doing a VAQ-132 repaint! That was my last duty squadron at NAS Alameda before getting out in February '72 on a 3-month early out program.
I was on that 3 month early out program because I was in the Naval Reserve Delay before enlisting active. I flew back from the Philippines in October 1970 to Frisco to Chicago and then the next three months in the EM club at Great Lakes from 0800 to 1600. Beer, brats and fries. I lived close enough that I did not have to stay on base or stand any duty. Checked in the morning and signed out in the afternoon and went back home. Not a bad deal. I reclaimed my 1969 Mustang Convertible which I bought new when we were in the yard at Portsmouth, from my sister who had been driving it back and forth to school while I was overseas. Had to have her friends pick her up and take her home. Oh, well. LOL! My next two years of my obligation were spent at NAS Glenview supporting the VP Squadrons that were assigned.

The VAQ-132 was actually created by Russell Smith "rsgunner" a long time member here who I found out today, passed away last March. I converted his textures to DDS DXT5 and will be releasing them with the updated KA-3B model next week here with a tribute to him for the original work so that they can be used in P3D.

In the paint kit there were 3 layers; a shader and 2 stain layers. I deleted all 3 but still seem to have the problem. Will try a little longer. Is it possibly the bump or spec sheets - they are not very discernible - no shapes in either.
I don't know what to say because you can see I don't have that problem. I know expat said he had something on the top of the fuselage I don't either. I know gray eagle had the smoke issue (that I don't) in V5.4 and edakridge had to convert my original DXT 3 to DXT 5 to get them to work properly in V5.4 which is not an issue in V4.5. He thinks that maybe is a video card issue for him with his new computer. Always something isn't there?

I just went and opened up my VAQ-308 paintkit; reduced the size of the texture to 1024x1024. I forgot to do that maybe because I like to work in 4096x4096 when working with "decals". I noticed that the shadows layer was still on and turned it off. Then saved it as DDS DXT5. Unzip the folder; copy and paste the newtexture over the one in your texture folder and then see if those shadows that shouldn't be there are gone and post here I hope success. VAQ-208 was the same "problem?" so I fixed it the same way and they are both in the zip folder attached. Replace them both please and sorry for that. I forgot to tell ya'all that you were "beta testers".

Here is a rework of the Alpha FSX A-3 as an RA-3B: engine shadows still a PITA no matter what I Do.

I have been developing a paint lit for this RA-3B though

Your KA-3 tanker engines show up just fine - even though I use your KA-3 Base my engines are AFU.

There has got to be something going on. If you want I can send you the original converted mdl before the drogue was merged to try for your RA-3B. Send me a PM with your email addy and I will send it to you from my email.

For me in P3Dv4.5 it looks more like it's a reflection thing, like it's PBR in patches - so maybe in the model?
FYI - I am going to try converting the EKA-3 model in MCX and see what happens.

When braking to a taxi stop, did any one experience the nose dipping excessively? I've seen that on some other aircraft and have forgot the remedy. It was some adjustment in the contact points or brake data in the aircraft cfg.

Something about compression or Damping in the contact points.

[contact_points]

//0 Class <0=none, 1=wheel, 2=scrape, 3=float>
//1 Longitudinal Position (feet)
//2 Lateral Position (feet)
//3 Vertical Position (feet)
//4 Impact Damage Threshold (Feet Per Minute)
//5 Brake Map (0=None, 1=Left, 2=Right)
//6 Wheel Radius (feet)
//7 Steer Angle (degrees)
//8 Static Compression (feet) (0 if rigid)
//9 Max/Static Compression Ratio
//10 Damping Ratio (0=Undamped, 1=Critically Damped)
//11 Extension Time (seconds)
//12 Retraction Time (seconds)
//13 Sound Type
//14 Airspeed limit for retraction (KIAS)
//15 Airspeed that gear gets damage at (KIAS)

Decrease the toe brake scalar entry in the aircraft.cfg file ----
[brakes]
toe_brakes_scale=xxxx

Thank you Mike I will try that. :geek:
The A-3 had reasonal brakes, but not fantastic; we always used the drag chute, which could put you up against the instrument panel if your harness wasn't locked. The aircrewman would jump out and repack it once on the taxiway. Parking it with the chute deployed could result in all kinds of snagging stuff when going around corners and onto the ramp before we shut down. It didn't take him long and I cannot recall ever having a "streamer".

My crews at NATC Strike Pax River included an ADCS, an ADJ1, An AEC and an AMH2. A terrific bunch of pros with lots of VAQ and VQ fleet experience.

What is the entry after the // ?

toe_brakes_scale=2.7 // 0.7

I guess it'll be trial and error to see if it makes a difference.

Yes still getting this effect with the new textures.

If the new mdl didn't take care of it I don't know what else to do with it since I don't have that problem. Every computer and video card being different sometimes create problems. I have had a problem that I asked help for at FSDevelopers and after sending them the file they could not replicate it. There will be a new model update for the KA-3B here at the end of the week for everyone to download and replace the one in the package I uploaded to the Resources.

the entry after the // is the original probably in the FS2004 Alphasim because it tells the simulator to ignore anything after the "//" in xml code.

This is the braking action I was talking about - Is this normal for the nose to bow that much? Does it need new shocks? Take it to meinkie? :)
