New Computer Advice Please

rbp71854

Its nearly been decades since I have either built or purchased a gaming computer. My original win xp64 computer will not be able to transition to win 11 from double boot win 10/win x64 to win 11/win xp64.
At this point I would like to find something within my price range. I think the following would suite me just fine, so that I could run cfs3 with Ankor's added on.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers

I honestly wouldn't go for that sort of thing. The GFX card is integrated. It's small so almost no cooling. I advise agains it.

At that price point, it actually has a lot going for it (fast processor, decent memory) if you only need 1080P or less. It's basically a gaming laptop without the portability.

Thank you gentleman for the recommendations. Much to ponder.
I agree Corsair is a flagship, My existing tower case and many remaining parts inside are Corsair. However, I don't have that kind of resources anymore to spend on a gaming computer.

Thanks again folks.

cheers

If you're going for a desktop I would highly recommend a liquid cooled system. It may cost a few extra shekels but it will be well worth it IMO. My liquid cooled system has outlived all my air cooled systems by far.

Sorry but a custom liquid cooled system is not maintenance free and also has nothing to do with an extended lifetime of your rig.

I can not see on what he is buying as Amazon is redirected me to a local Amazon site. But if only using this PC for old combat flysims like CFS3 or IL2-1946 on 1920x1080 monitor resolution you can not go wrong with any modern generation OEM pc that does have an GPU Video card installed. Agree with @Priller, avoid the PC that has a build-in iGPU as these CPU/GPU combo’s are weak on the GPU side. The only exception here would be the PC with the AMD Ryzen7 8700G, as this has a very powerfull iGPU (and CPU), but still weaker as the very old RTX1660.

I didn't say it was maintenance free - LOL

Any machine has to be maintained.

I can only speak to my experience. I love my liquid cooled rig and will be buying another when the need arises.

With the mini towers, I would also think twice. Good price but what happens if you want to upgrade the storage, RAM, or GPU? How many sets of tweezers do you have?

With our shared love of old sims, ask yourself if you really need anything with "gaming" in the title. Are the rainbow LEDs really that important?
It seems to me that a constant light show would be a distraction when you can least afford it.

For the OP's consideration, check out this thread: https://sim-outhouse.org/sohforums/threads/in-case-it-seems-like-im-not-interested.165427/

I'm not saying this is the end-all-be-all of simming rigs, but the hardware has impressed me so far. I purposely shopped for a small-biz oriented PC. They tend to last longer (also, no "bloatware" to remove). Another idea might be to wait another month and look for "back to school" specials. These are all considered "low entry" rigs. No water coolers, no "showboat" features, nothing really to set the world on fire, but they tend to last and are built to work for 16 hours per day, every day (or just never shut them off). :wiggle: So, I'm in with this rig for under a grand. I've already added a cheap fanless GPU and a better M.2 drive is showing up early next week. That should be all the mods I want to add to the build.

So, (IMO) do your homework. Concentrate on what you need over what you want. Look at the specs of the hardware. Ask that last question again.
Don't be afraid to say "no". I shopped-out the new tower for something like 6 weeks before I placed the order.

CFS3 has grown a bit over the years, and particularly with the new shaders which Bob wants to run, it needs a dedicated GPU. The demands are a good bit beyond FS2004 or FSX now. The highest settings with lots of weather can require pretty high end equipment.

As far as the RGB lighting, I'm not a fan myself, but oddly enough a pre-built rig in the general spec range the OP wants, RGB seems to actually cost less in many cases. If I ever ended up having to go that route I'd just turn them off, since having a showpiece computer does absolutely nothing for me.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions.

I am afraid I have come to the conclusion that I really can't afford a machine that would satisfy my requirements. So I will trudge along with the relic I now have.:)
