interesting bird Lisunov Li-2

Hi Huub,
as you also seem to be interested by this plane I join something for you.
I f you will pick up the challenge LOL I can modify the original cockpits
into the version as used on this specific plane

Best regards

Michael

The only thing I promise is that I will take a look.

In June 2007 the Li-2 HA-LIX visited the DakotaFlyin at the Aviodrome in Lelystad. It was the first and the last time I ever saw a flying Lisonov Li-2. Sunflower was one of the main sponsors to get this aircraft back in flying condition. It now wears a historic Malev livery. As you can see the livery differs slightly from the one on the decals

And a picture from the cockpit, with the Boeing 747, which is on static display at the Aviodrome, in the backgroud.

Good evening Huub,

thank you for your answer.
Happy that the plane found your interest.
I have found a lot about the history of this particular plane.
So I have done my one repaint in the historic Malev colors (as good as I can).
The panel is finished I had to make some compromisses with the posibilities of flightsim and my knowledge.
But 2D panel and VC do match to gether. On one side I tried to keep as much from the original panel, on the other side to make it a bit less heavy I did delete the Astro and drift nav systems as not of use within our days.
I hope to make it possible to finish the pack as a stand alone aircraft to be released for eastern.
I made a control flight from Munich Riem to Budapest just using my old german rolling map (Cant use anymore the gps on my flightsime - oneor to minutes later crash to black screen and frozen fs) all went well. A bit work to controll the engines not overheat when climbing to 5000 meters. to cross the alps.. But for me more interesting than to Fly an airbus or boing from a point where I have nothing to do to another point where I have not more to do LOL

Best regards

Michael

Good evening friends,
sad news. My Li-2 HA- LIX makes trouble.
She works fine on my pc, but when I wanted to try her on the stick from Erik. When his FS starts before I can choose a plane FS stops with the fault message that viuslfx.dll is the cause..
The original LI-2 does not cause any problems. So I implemented just the new paint, the new panel and the new sounds -plash the same problem
there are more than 200 gauges (a lot are used several times, that's the reason about so many) and to find out which gauge causes the problem - - - - PFFFFFF
So I wonder if I should release her as a "testplane" to see if other user have the same problem or not. or forget it simply?

Best regards
Michael

Painting is the simple part.

Work in progress. The model has a weird issue. From a distance the alphas won't work....... So the aircraft is only reflective when you are close...

Cheers,
Huub

Its a bit weird, but the real HA-LIX doesn't have the typical "cowling" plates in front of the engines. So I had to work around this problem. I think I managed to create a rather convincing illusion of an engine. But in the final package I will include both the texture for a blue plate with a red inner plate and the texture which masks the plate with the illusion of an engine.....

Good morning friends,
during the night I found out what was the source of my problems with the Lisunov.
On my sim I have the original LI-2 and my one called Lisunov Li-2 HA-LIX.
All worked well.
Than I placed just my one into Eriks fs on the stick. All well but nor more the original specific Li-2 sounds.
Aha the LI2_sounds.ini file may be the reason. So I opened this file with texteditor and repalced the entries "SoundXX=./Aircraft/Lisunov_Li2/sound_gau/galet_1.wav" By "SoundXX=./Aircraft/Lisunov_Li2 HA-LIX/sound_gau/galet_1.wav. This resolted in the crash as described on the post above. By chance I have also an Helicopter configuration of Eriks FS2004, and this one worked pretty well.
Aha again; my changes did made changes in the background to Eriks FS2004.cfg.. So I deleted it started Eriks sim again and all was well
The two LI-2 versions worked well together how the should do.
Alright the fault source is identified. But how can I chanfe this sound ini file so that my HA-LIK works well with the sounds with out having the original one on the sim?

Good morning Huub,
at first, your repaint is amazing!
And of course you are right concerning the engine cowling shutters - HA-LIX doesnt have them.
I have overseen this detail
Wonder how you will resolve this problem.

Best regards

Michael

Further to Michael Vader’s excellent research on the Lisunov Li-2 I decided to try and sort out my DC-3 FS9 collection and supposed Lisunov Li2 aircraft.
I have mentioned authors where I know them; if not mentioned I apologies and thank you for the great work you have done.
There is the Microsoft DC-3 that comes with FS-9 and the many additional textures that enhance what was a nice model to start with coupled with a nice panel, such as the Austrian Airlines example equipped with the standard Microsoft panel:
DC-3 Standard eng2.jpg

Supplementing the Microsoft one are the excellent C-47s of Manfred Jahn. His models come in two types; cargo (The RAF version below) and passenger converted C-47 Skytrain models (Ghana Airways):

C-47 Ghana.jpg

There are some re-paints that purport to be a Lisunov but are standard Microsoft DC-3s with East European liveries, such as this nice LOT version:
Li-2 LOT paint on DC-3.jpg

There are also a variety of panels available:
This is a by Enrique A. Godoy from 2012 found on a Sabena DC-3

Trev Morson developed this modernised panel for a Lacol Colombia DC-3:

A slightly modified panel for a four fuel tank DC-3 by Dave Bitzer and Mark Beaumont on a Peau Vava’s aircraft:

and another panel for a USCG RAD-5 DC-3:
DC-3 V3 Panel.jpg

I hope the above is informative.

Good morning friends
as you have perhaps seen I have this morning uploaded a repaint and modernized panel for the Lisunov Li-2 HA-LIX.
I had to do two uploads as in the first I forgot to join the gauges. Certainly a "saturday morning effect" LOL.
I wait to see how Huub resolved the problem that HA-LIX did not have the particular Cowling shutters the russian versions had.
My solution is quiet simple and not 100% acurate but it makes the shutters disapear.
Concerning the Douglas DC-3. There exists some repaints as Lisunov Li-2. Hmmm, that is only partially wrong. Of course a DC-3 is not a Li-2. But, the sowjets had some DC-3 flying with russian colors before the real Lisunov Li-2 came to production and to the front line. It took the russians two years of effort to "translate" the original DC-3 plans into rusian metric standards. This done the production had to be relocated several times due to war time. But to fly a Li-2 with a DC-3 panel - it as like as to depreciate the authors nice work to reproduce the original LI-2 cockpit (that it is just my humble opinion). And that only because I did not find a free technical translator for the russian manuals. I was able to make only one free translation from the LI-2 manual from russian to german. Sadly just one translation was possible for free. I than tried to translate this german version from german to english via Google - and hop in the trash paper basket.
Anyway, I hope that some of you will have some fun with my little add on to the nice LI-2. And I am waiting about what Huub would do nice for us.

Best regards

Michael

New downloads have to be approved before being made available.
It will probably take a couple of hours before they are released.

I'm also looking forward to Michael's Li-1 :jump:

Michael, where are your uploads? I can't find them here at SOH. Still finding my way around this forum

They are still in the queue, waiting to be approved by the librarian. The forum is managed by volunteers, so it can can some time before somebody is available.

One of the few smal advantages I have as admin, is that my uploadsare automatically approved. So my Sunflower repaint should be available already. Please to a moment to look at the readme as there are several alternative textures included.

I hope the textures meet your expectations.

Cheers,
Huub

Hallo Huub,
they seem to be avaible now, just after yours one
I have of course downloded yours one. And thanks to your alternative textures I have now three versions of the HA-LIX in my Hangar
one of 2001, one of 2006 and mine from 2018. I fly all thre with my "modern panel".But I still battle with the different switches and levers.
My german translation is too aproximative and there might be faults in. Also the original manual is not complete, so there is no explanations of the switches on the two overhead panels. Also the fuel management is not realy clear to me when witch switch has to be switched in which position.
Wonder if I will understand that "beast" one day.
Thank you for your repaint Huub

Best regards

Michael

I'll give the translation to English a try.
I'll post once I've done all the docs... (That will keep me busy for a while!)

With all this interest with the Li-2 & talk of the DC-3, I've dusted off & reinstalled the MAAM threesome again...
A simmers job is never done!! :wiggle:

Good morning friends,

for those who uses the original panel ore even mine, did some one find out about the different functions of the different tank switches?

Best regards

Michael

So far I had no luck Michael. I have managed to start get the elkectrical system working and was able te get one engine moving with the original panel, but it simply stops. So I guess there is no fuel because the fuel switched are not in the correct position.

(Simple problem solving I learned form the motor cycles I worked on in the past. When the engine doesn work at ayll, there is either no fuel of no spark.)

Cheers,
Huub
