Kodiak Released

Amphibian nosing down intermittently in water

Hey guys,

For those that use the Amphibian alot, and have Build 2.2, you have probably noted that the plane occasionally noses forward a bit. Not always but sometimes. This is because there were some adjustments carried out to keep sparks down. When landing on the ground, spraks flew up occasionally. The contact points for the floats were moved back somewhat to keep that from happening. However it effects the water floating performance.

This is actually a FSX bug. The new FSX coordinates place the contact points higher up. This means they are closer to the wheels (skid points). The Kodiak Amphibian is modelled as close as possible to the actual plane, and the float version sits very close to the ground. In FSX, this causes the plane to appear to be scraping the ground (sparks). I changed the geometry of the model (lowered the landing gear a bit) to help, then changed the float points to help it.

If you do more water landings then ground landings in the Amphib's, I can create some new contact points with the floats having farther forward contact points.

LH. thanks for that...yes I'd like the older/realistic ones...with floats I always landed on hard runways a little faster then normal thinking weight, and the floats drag...? got some sparks but most of the time a softer touch down

Thanks Lionheart

What alot of fun :applause:

now I gotta go and get Bobs props :running:

I haven't tested the prop texture yet, but I was unable to extract the readme file from the first archive you posted. I just downloaded the new archive, and just wanted to confirm that everything (all the files in the archive) extracted fine (though I still haven't tried the prop texture yet.)

Thanks again!

Cool, thanks George.:ernae:

Bob, thanks for the prop work :wavey:

and if you ever do the white floats and legs with that scummy and dirty look to fit the Coast Gard and UN plane like on your 206 cessna :kilroy: I would love a copy it was brilliant :ernae:

You read my mind. :ernae:

:faint: !!

You.... got rid of FS9...........!

:kilroy:

Yeah, I know, LOL, I just couldn't fly over water anymore without feeling like I'm cheating on my baby. LOL I can still do one, shouldn't be a problem. :ernae:

This thread and those amazing screenies just convinced me to go buy this mythical plane:applause:. I'm allways bit skeptical when it comes to glass cockpits, they can be heavy on the frames on my system. But I'm giving this one a go. Will post screenies later....

Ok... seriously... this has to be one of the most amazing addons ever created:applause: Just been flying it in and out of small strips and the performance is just excellent. Very frame friendly yet beautiful model. First glass cockpit that does not bring my computer to it's knees. Congrats! This might take the number one place in my hangar from my Pilatus Porter.

Now... is there a paintkit for this? I sure would like to create some dirty and weathered paints for it:icon_lol:.

There is a paint kit at the Lionheart site and it has a weathered layer that can be intensified to what ever level you want, plus you can always add more.

Excellent Screenshots! There is a paintkit on Lionheart's Kodiak page http://www.lionheartcreations.com/Kodiak.html. Scroll down towards the lower half of the page, and you'll find high-performance textures, extreme high-res panel textures, the paint kit and more (like the information on prop spool up that is in this thread.) I'd love to get a look at some dirty and/or weathered versions, so here's hoping you'll at least post a few screenies as you paint 'em, and perhaps you'll maybe even release a few. ;)

Oops, VCN-1 already beat me to the response. :)
