F7F Tigercat SOH Project

well i believe the "mud" is pumped to the planes..its not gravitey fed..so it could go in under pressure?...im guessing about the last part

Say, guys, about the firefighting effects, did you find a way to actually kill a fire ?... ( deactivate the fire effect if retardant is dropped at certain coordinates ?... )

Quite some time ago already i turned our B-25 into a firefighter but it was never released because we simply couldn't find a way to actually kill a fire. The retardant drop effects were nice but if you can't kill a fire with it you feel like a pretty lousy firefighter... :d

Very curious to hear about your results in this respect. It would be pretty cool to be able to feel like Richard Dreyfuss in 'Always' , wouldn't it ! :)

Cheers,
Jan

Javis,

Beautiful work my friend. I do doubt the ability to have one effect cancel the actions of another unrelated effect in FS9 without some serious internals programming. However, it seems there are some who can blow up buildings with bombs and rockets in FSX so it must be possible. It certainly would improve the interest in these tankers.

I have flight ventures from abacus that's a few years old and that has triggers to make objects appear and dissapear at certain points or distances so it should be possible to have fire fighting effects.

email answer from jeff marsh from aero union corp...

Retardant weight varies due to manufacturers design. 9lb/gal is what the US Air Force uses to calculate W&B.

Thanks,
Jeff

Subject: weight of retardant,,info for project

Hello,Im involved in a flight simulator project..we are creating a F7F tigercat for flight simulator 2004 (FS9) and FSX..one of the modelers needs to know how much a gallon of retardant weighs for the flight model..is that a calulation thats possible? or is a gallon of water close enough?if yer curious on your own..it is at

www.sim-outhouse.com
under the forums at 2004/2002 section.....F7F project..

I'll try this again, my first attempt at a reply didn't seem to go through. In BC retardant is usually 10.6 pounds per imperial gallon, that changes depending on the salt content of the load though. The two door tank on the F7F was compartmentalized, you would have been able to drop both doors at once or individually to extend the length of the load. The filler port has a one way valve that prevents retardant from flowing back out of the tank, in theory at least. The gum thickened retardant tends to make things stick open when they shouldn't.

I have seen a file called EA_FireDash ? or something similar that included an effect that would mask fire effects. I've only tried it in FSX, the mask effect was visible. It showed up as a large white cloud but I imagined in FS9 it was invisible? Worth a look, I see if I can find it again and post a link.

Thanks Slund, that is good info to have. 10.6lbs per Imperial gallon converts to 8.2lbs per U.S. gallon.

I do doubt the ability to have one effect cancel the actions of another unrelated effect in FS9 without some serious internals programming.

I was thinking more in line of the fact that we'd have to push a key to activate the drop effect ( f.i. open bombbay doors ) if within certain coordinates this event could then also trigger the cancelation of the fire effect, possibly with a build in lag of a couple seconds.

I guess canceling the fire effect will be the biggest problem...

However, it seems there are some who can blow up buildings with bombs and rockets in FSX so it must be possible. It certainly would improve the interest in these tankers.

I would certainly think so, Milton, and it certainly would be great fun because it would give us something else to do than just fly from A to B. Imagine, with a water tanker, you'd have to skim the water surface first at a couple of feet to load up.. :)

The fact that something like this hasn't turned up in all the years we virtually fly, and, for all i know, not even in FSX yet, makes one wonder if it is possible at all....

In any case your Tigercat is going to look smashing that's for sure ! :ernae:

cheers,
Jan

I think someone did a fire retardant drop bucket for a helicpopter a while back. Unfortunatly the F7F and all of the land plane variants involved in fire work use pumped aboard slurries etc and do not have the water scooping ability. PBY Cat's have been used for this and Canadair has produced a dedicated fire water bomber/scooper specifically for this purpose. We had a couple of them here in Fairbanks last month.

True. I was thinking about the Catalina, CL-215, or Mighty Martin Mars. I bet once that one brilliant programmer stands up and gives us the abillity to really kill fires in FS a truckload of striking colored aircraft of many type will suddenly fill our virtual skies. Next to the 7F7 Milton already has the perfect example in his wonderful A-26 and next to the B-25 i could do the TBM as well. Lots to choose from both in FS9 and FSX.

PBY Cat's have been used for this..

They sure have. I'm about 100% sure that you have seen this clip, who hasn't, but since it is one of the most exiting and funniest aviation clips here it is again for the lost soul that missed it :http://youtu.be/P2nSRHbaEH0

Hey! Bud! Git up ! :jump:

Hi:

As Milton has more or less done most of the exterior work and we have currently split the planes into three groups, the Dash ones. Dash threes and the Fire bomber, work will mostly be behind the scenes and rather incremental for a bit. Looks to be one of the best in the classic Milton Style!

Yes indeed! That would be awesome to see Jan. :jump: Maybe we can interest Doug Dawson in such a challenge ...

Yes, we have a nice start on this F7F-X series and I look forward to the next phase of interior development. :wiggle:

Meanwhile, I am back on the AT-11 and enjoying the heck out of what Damian is doing for textures. Exterior about wrapped and interior textures evolving.

Oh good lord those textures are stunning! Milton, is there a possibility that at some point in the future we might have those kinda textures on your good ol' D18?

Thanks :ernae:

Well thank you PT. I suppose it does not hurt to ask. I will pass the question on to Damian Radice. :salute: Damian has done a similarly beautiful exterior texture work with the xp47j, also awaiting VC completion.

Now, back on topic. :)

well back off topic for a second or two...your at-11..will it be for FSX aswell as 2004?...its pretty sexy
