Beech AT-11 KANSAN Released

What he said! :applause:
Downloading as I type.

The paint kit is patiently awaited, but I think I'm gonna start my NZ Aerial Mapping repaint right now (once I've finished my first excited test hops with this new baby of course!).

Cheers,
Markus.

Thank you Marcus :)

I just talked with Damian this morning. He is now home and hopes to send me the Paint Kit this weekend. When he does, I will post it.

I really love this aircraft! A great addition to the virtual hangar. :wavey:

Note: My once screamer 'puter has now aged and is pretty much a "chugger" by todays standards. I will admit the AT-11 textures sent my frame count into crawl mode. I'm so used to that now though, I just automatically redo the 32 bit textures to DXT3 textures (no mips).
Still looks great to me, I keep the full VC, and she flies great (27-28fps locked at 28).
Anyway, that's my story, I'm happy, and I'm sticking to it. LOL!

It seems your issue is your RAM limitation of 512MB. You really need at least 2GB there and as cheap as it is today, you should really treat your self.

I am happy to do a more optimized VC ... will take 16 hours to prepare the four models and textures and package them so maybe by Sunday night.

thanks!

Ah, great Christopher ... that makes it easier. :)

Hi Milton!
I know... I know... but it's a Netvista and I live in a remote area so; unless I can find another identical system to cannibalize it's virtually impossible to upgrade the RAM. We've got more beaver pelts here than RAM, and if they surely make fine hats, they're a no go for loading textures and polys. Generic and/or non IBM RAM doesn't work with it.

You don't have to do it, especially if it's just for me! I'll keep the Kansan untill the current system finally dies and we upgrade it with more & generic RAM for sure!

thanls!

Thanks for the heads-up. I think we need to release a DXT3 set. This is one of my disadvantages now that I have a new computer. I cannot see that impact.

I think we should try DXT3 textures first to assess the impact. I just finished the FS2002 model changes, textures reductions, and setup and need a few hours to finish testing and packaging before I can start on DXT3's for FS9.

Hi,

No impact at all as my FPS is set at 41 .. and with or not DXT3 .. FPS stay at 41 FPS :)
The difference is that the texture load time (aircraft initialization) is more short when DXT3 used .....

"What was the impact to your frame rates? That is the question at hand."

Hi Milton - loving the 'plane, though I too had to reduce the textures to DXT3 to get an acceptable framerate (set at 25 fps) on my ancient P4 machine. But then this is something I seem to have to do with any aircraft whose texture file is over the 20mb mark. Don't know if this a general indication of things..but it's Friday night and I've had a couple of beers and just thought I'd throw this in....

Many thanks, again, A.

Thanks for your responses regarding frame rates. Looks to make a lot of sense that we release a set of DXT3 textures.

I CONFESS

I converted my textures to DXT3 as well. Although my machine handled the original textures just fine, they were a little slow in loading specially when switching views which I do a lot.

My second reason was to conserve disk space since my primary HD is not that big. Presuming I will be adding additional textures in the future, one a/c can consume a large footprint over time.

Milton - regarding the DXT3 conversion, I've converted all ten folders (with MIP's) and I'm uploading them now to a server. As soon as they're up, I'll send you a link by PM.

Wow! Thank you very much Tom. I appreciate that. :applause: I will download when they are available. :jump:

I'm using Transload's server, so I can't provide the link to the public. But you're more than welcome to upload them here in your name. I remember you saying that your site doesn't like too much traffic. The zip is 73.13 MB.

the loading time in fsx is pretty slow on the plane my friends system cant get it loaded fast it kicks him from game server befor the airplanes loaded all the way

And EVen for me on my Gateway Gaming PC it takes a bit to load:salute:

though the frame rate hit is allmost none for me once flying

My old Clunker with a GTX 260,and driver 190.38...no problems at all..in any area,Loading,Viewing FRs,and most importantly... FLYING...Steady at pre set 30fps..No problems!!.....well maby just a tiny one...wish I had a seat cushion..Flaring give me the FITS!!..

..beautiful in FS9....just My Opeion Only!Thanx again to all for this wonderful gift....Vin...:salute:

I'm dowloading the manual install version now. I love the Twin Beech's and I'm going to try this one in FS2002 standard and see how far I get! :salute:

Thanks!

Christopher Tarana

Christopher, and all FS2002 users,

Fortunately, I took today off and got started on this at 5AM. The flight model gave me fits but now okay, textures were reduced, a few gauge, panel, and effect changes, sounds changed, and 4 models were changed.

I have just uploaded a FS2002/FS8 version of the AT-11. Once approved, you can get it here:

DXT3 Textures

In a way, I'm glad I'm not the only one with texture/poly problems with the FS9 version of the AT-11.. Hate it that Milton has to go thru all this extra work, tho..
After hearing the glowing reports from those who changed to the DTX3's, I can hardly wait to get my hands on the revamped version.. The plane is an absolute dream to fly, handled well, it will be really great to have some scenery to go with it ;-} (even if it is FS9 default scenery ;-} )
