Beech AT-11 KANSAN Released

Milton;
Got the downloads.. Thanks. Appreciate your extra work.
Now, what's a MIP Map and No MIP Map (obviously with no MIPs)
I don't know whether I need/want them or not.

Try the NO MIP MAPS first. If they run great, you are done. Let me know what happens.

MIP is short for Multum In Parvo - Latin for Much In Little. A texture with MIP's has progressively smaller copies of itself embedded into the file. As your viewpoint gets farther away from the plane, FS will reselect smaller copies to display. At those distances, you can't tell the difference because the number of pixes used to display them on the screen aren't capable. For instance, if a plane in the distance is only 30 pixels across, there's no way you'll ever see the full detail in a 1024² texture file. The benefit is that the smaller copy puts less of a load on the graphics system, improving performance. But it can also cause a problem on older systems causing blurriness. My first rig didn't support MIP's, so instead of displaying them correctly, it blended all the layers into one, making the stock planes look like crap.

AT-11 "LITE" Version Ready for Upload

For older, slower computers, or those who just want to fly from the 2D panel, this is for you.

The models are 40% lighter in polys; the textures are DXT3 with No Mip Maps.

There is a VC but only enough to provide views for the 2D panel and for basic VC flying.

Not suitable for FSX external VC viewing.

I replaced the 5 heavy textures with all 10 of Damian's schemes in DXT3 so no need to download them.

This package will coexist with the original heavier package without issues.

This is a full package.

I will post a link once uploaded.

EDIT: Uploaded, awaiting approval: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=6&linkid=3518

AT-11 Autopilot

I might have missed this issue, but my autopilot did work at all. I had to comment the last 3 lines from autopilot section in aircraft cfg to make it work. For those having similar experience:
...
yaw_damper_gain = 0
default_bank_mode=2 //0
//use_no_default_bank=1
//use_no_default_pitch=1
//default_pitch_mode=0

No i can enjoy the flight from the bubble

Thanks Milton! I really appreciate this one!

Hello!

I want to say thanks a lot, for all commitment and enthusiasm to this project! I really enjoy the new Beech, the AT-11. It's a very rarly bird, and has unique appearance. Please, it would be great if other models like this one will be created, for the flightsim community!

Best regards,
Elmar

For all of those who were having frame rate and load time issues, please report back how you do with the DXT3 textures. If you are doing well with them, then there is no need to convert the 4 models to a low poly VC version. However, if you still need the lower-poly VC versions, I will do them.

So, let me hear from you please.

Bonjour Milton,

My rig handles FSX and Acceleration but I usually get a bad case of the stutters with almost every planes that I fly. I guess she's a bit slow per se and there isn't much that I can do about it presently.
However, when I tried your AT-11 with the long load time and heavy files, the fps (around 10-13) remained the same as usual but there was no longer any stuttering of the screen...:jump:

Mind you, I did have to restart the PC a few times as after a few flights, I seemed to get all types of bad vibes coming on the screen. After reboot, everything was back to normal, whatever the normal is, as they say... :kilroy:

When you uploaded your DXT3 with no MIPs, I wanted to try that as I do get the blurries associated with MIP mapping and that is usually a pain to watch.

I think I'll stick with your DXT3 with NO MIPs from now on with this gorgeous baby...:salute:

The loading time is really much better, the screens are still sharp without any stutters and I don't have to reboot the PC as I did before. However, the FPS has dropped a wee bit (around 7 to 10) without affecting the visual quality (inside and out) of the plane itself or the scenery...

Thank you again for your talent and generosity as well as that of the other team members.

As a footnote and my way of thanking you in kind, I'm enclosing pics of two "What if's" that I'm presently working on . The bare skin one is almost done whereas the "camo" still needs some bit of weathering as I prefer my WWII veterans to be rough and a little dirty from wear...

The camo sports DXT3 (No MIPs) and the bare one still has the 32 bits texture. I seem to have less problems with the camo as far as the joining of the textures is concerned in comparison with the bare ones which did not always cover the joints (or seams) as well as I would have expected.

Cheers,

Fleurdelys

Let me know how your frame rates are on this one Willy.

For my old box, they are very good. About 12 in full screen and 24 in windowed mode.

But I am having some issues trying to switch aircraft between the paints. Prolly got the aircraft.cfg hosed up somehow. (Yes, I've had my fat fingers in it so it's most likely something I've done.)

But I'm well pleased with the fps on the lite version.

To MIP or Not To MIP...

Milton;
Yesterday I tried both the No-MIPs and MIPs Textures.
On the No-MIPs, everything worked great except when I would change from Cockpit View to External View, the plane would be stark white for a second or two before spawning the colors.
Might this be an "FS9" adjustment? (setting, tweak, etc..?) Frame Rates ranged from 29.9 (locked on 30) to an occasional low of 19.0.
I also tried the "with MIPs" just so I could have the comparison.. Flying with MIPS produced 10+FPS drops frequently during the hour long flight and "hits" to single digits on more than a few occasions. Also, during most of the flight, I was having constant "stutters" and once, after landing, during the taxi back to the NE Parking area, I had what I call a "Time Jump".. Where the plane is at one spot, then a second later it "time jumped" to a distance of one to two plane lengths ahead of where it was.. The odd part of this is the sim never "stopped", as in a stop/start type movement.. I didn't catch the Frame Rates during the "jump"
I might note that before ths test, I returned all my Sliders & "settings" back to where I had them before the first AT-11 flights. Also, as an FYI, my KNFW Airport, that I was flying out of, is an addon scenery for FS9.. I don't know who made it, but I obtained if from the FlightSim.com Library. Just in case there might be an issue??
I just downloaded the AT-11 "Lite" and will be giving it a try later this week..
Lastly, I did a check on my system specs. They are:
AMD 64x2 5600+ 2.8GHz (not a 5000+ 2.4GHz as I wrote previously).
Four Gigs of RAM.
GPU: Fatal1ty 8500GT with 512MB on-board RAM.. The XFX Propaganda said that an additional 985MB RAM is "available" from the system's RAM, as needed.. I don't know how, or if, that works.
O/S is Win XP Pro.
One thing I did notice, after I downloaded a widget to monitor my system temps (I had a previous computer die from a fan failure).. Turned out my CPU Temps are way cool but my GPU was running 57*C. Later, with all three "extra" fans running wide open, I got the GPU's temp down to 50*C. Might this be an (the?) issue??

Conclusion of the AT-11 Project

Thank you all for your interest in this project over its duration. I started the AT-11 on May 29, 2009 thinking it would be easy to convert the D18S. Wrong! I ended up redoing practically every part in it.

Happy that it is done and I have now done all the houskeeping post project as I have with the F7F project, my part of it.

Reflecting back, this is the picture from www.twinbeech.com that got me motivated on this project. Thanks to Taigh Ramey for making much of this possible. And a big warm thanks to Scott Thomas and Damian Radice for doing the really neat stuff that made the AT-11 come alive. Of course, Gary Jones swooped in at the last hour to provide the awesome sounds. Thanks guys. :)

Thanks for all your warm comments and I hope you get many hours of pleasure from her.
