New C47 from Manfred Jahn

Great job, Huub!
And quite "delicious", candy-stripe-wise...

Will you give a HU over at calclassic - or should I?

Cheers,
Markus.

KLM Paint

Thank you Huub for a true classic, I think I remember seeing this paint scheme at Leeds Bradford Airport many years ago, maybe when it was still known as Yeadon Airport.

I have just one question, how do we stop the bleed through of the nose colour into the cockpit?
See Pic below.

Forgot to mention my first ever flight was in a DC3 1959 , from LBA to Jersey,we had to land at Lydd and wait two hours because it was too foggy to find Jersey in the Chanel until the fog lifted.

Oops, hadn't noticed this bleedthrough, although a similar error had been ironed out in the last minute. Many thanks for pointing it out, there will be a fix asap.

this could easily become another aircraft for which I have too many repaints to fly..... ;)

Is this Navy version available? If so, where can I find it? Thanks....

AZ1USN that repaint can be found on Flightsim.com. Just do a search on "Manfred" and you will find many interesting repaints. The file name from this particular on is douglas_c-47_usn-narf.zip.

I don't know whether that particular interior has been uploaded, but on Flightsim.com you can also find the file c47_interior.zip by Marvin Carter and Manfred Jahn, which has alternative textures and a fix for the missing wing from the default VC.

Marvin Carter also did textures for a grey civilian version which can be found here in the SOH library (posted on 8th of march) or grab the same file at Flightsim.com. The file's name is greyinteriordc3_c47.zip.

Manfred, is this a known glitch? (see below) I have it with all repaints so it must be in the model file I use. It is odd as on the screenies here I see many don't have this problem.

Thanks for checking

Huub,

Definitely haven't got that artefact on my rig.

All of your main 2_T textures should be dated 24 Feb 11:07, better check?

Or, just possibly, could it be a shadow cast by a prop tip or something?

Looking forward to the KLM livery, very nice paint.

Best
Manfred

All those having nothing on VC wingviews, check this folder content -

(similar for folder model.C47_2.)

In Virtual Cockpit view you are unlikely to see much if anything unless you zoom out a bit and/or move forward a bit (Ctrl-Backspace) and then use the hatswitch to pan around. Yes, I wish it were more natural but as far as I can tell I am battling against a modeling restriction here.

Helldiver, thanks for that comment. One user has pointed out that the cockpit window frames had too much of an angle on them, and he may have been right.

I too am not having any luck with the wing views. I did try Marvin Carters grey cockpit and
he dosen'g have the wing view to begin with. I don't understand the folder contents that is cited above....

Thankd for your reply. I have this with all (re)paints including the new one I made myself. I will re-download the original package. So it doesn't have anything to do with the textures. As I see it from all angles it isn't shadow. I will re-download the whole package and see whether it is a glitch in the package I downloaded.

Looking forward to the KLM livery, very nice paint.

It is already available here in the file library. I have already started the next one....
It is just the very early start, but give an impression of what is coming next.

Cheers,
Huub

Any Aussie paints from the late 1940s?

Aussies called'em Dakotas, I think, and many of these Dakotas made airline history in the development of huge Australia after WWII if I reckon correctly enough.

ideas---

http://www.aarg.com.au/DC3.htm
"The C47 had large cargo doors, strengthened metal floor and tie down points, Pratt and Whitney twin row 1830 engines, stronger landing gear and a glider towing cleat, and first flew in January 1942, with an eventual 9,500 being built. C47/Dakota's served in every allied air force, including the RAAF, which operated 124 lend-lease Dakota's (C47's) under its "A65-" number series and recently retired its last examples after 60 years of service.
Many C47's were converted back to "DC-3" passenger airliners following world war two, with former USAAC and RAAF aircraft entering Australian domestic airline service with ANA and TAA, following refittment with seats and passenger doors.

Over 200 different civil registrations were carried by DC-3 aircraft serving with more than 40 operators in Australia post war, with 41 being operated by Ansett-ANA, over 30 flying with TAA, and 5 serving with Qantas."

Quick question on the panel for the R4D version of the C-47. In the panel.R4D panel.cfg there is a reference to DC3_fuel_4tank! that does not seem to be in the panel folder. Is is available or was it left in by mistake?

Depending on the livery, you may be flying the C47_2 model (check aircraft.cfg entry), and if there isn't the C47_interior.mdl in the model.C47_2 folder then there would be nothing to be seen. For the same reason, I would check whether the respective model.cfg's are correct.

Just uploaded the corrected C47_interior.zip. Available at Flightsim later today, probably.

The revised readme reads like this -

This is a revision correcting a parts overlap error in the original version.
This interior model complements the C-47 Skytrain Exterior Pack, adding wing
and engine views and Marvin Carter's "green" cockpit texture repaint. By
Manfred Jahn and Marvin Carter. Prior installation of Manfred Jahn's Douglas
C-47 Skytrain Exterior Base Pack 1.0 required.

INSTALLATION

(1) Extract the zip to a temporary folder or open it in Windows
Explorer.

(2) If you are a previous user of this download package then all you
have to do is replace the old C47_interior.mdl in your two model
folders by the new ones.

(3) First-time users can simply copy the three folders in the zip to
their "Flight Simulator X\Simobjects\Airplanes\Douglas C-47" folder.
Say Yes when asked to overwrite.

NOTE

(1) This upload includes Marvin Carter's "green" VC textures (which you
may already have). Marvin has also uploaded a "grey" set called
greyinteriordc3_c47.zip at Flightsim which gives the virtual cockpit
a clean grey airliner look. Other VC texture replacement sets are
also available. A tip: if you drop a VC texture repaint directly
into a specific livery texture folder those textures will be used
for aircraft using this livery. Hence you can easily have "green" VC
for a military Skytrain and a grey VC for a civilian operator.

(2) As was mentioned elsewhere, in Virtual Cockpit view you are unlikely
to see much if anything unless you zoom out a bit and/or move
forward a bit (Ctrl-Backspace) and then use the hatswitch to pan
around.

I have already started the next one....

Very nice Huub!

Any chance for a camo version (like the one that was parked at the MLM) in the future? :wiggle:
