New C47 from Manfred Jahn

Very interesting. I need to add some more markings to it and weather it slightly. I have the RDAF book by Jan Jørgensen where K-688 is featured heavily. I need to remove alpha from the fabric covered control surfaces, add dirt here and there and possibly fade the dayglo somewhat. The images I have of it shows a pristine paint finish but I need to do something.

Is there such a thing as a camouflaged KLu/MLD C-47 and are you planning to do any?

Thanks

Both the RNAF and the MLD (Royal Navy) flew camouflaged C-47s. I just started on a camouflage scheme which hopefully will become the 019, from which I have some nice pictures. In general the scheme looks much like the scheme of the X-5. Only the border between upper and bottom colours is different and the colour for the lower surfaces is different. So once I have finished the 019 the X-5 isn't that much work, especially as I can use parts from the previous repaints I have done, like the white roof from the KLM machine.

However my free time is very limited so it might take some time before these are finished. (I currently work with an average of 1 line per day ;) ).

The K-688 arrived in the early eighties at Soesterberg. I was still in the Air Force and I saw it arrive at Soesterberg flying in formation with two F-16s. It was pure coincidence I was on duty that day, but I love the sight when it made a few low passes before it landed.

After it had been sprayed in Dutch colours is has been put on display in front of the museum. After a short period it was already hard to realise it had arrived as an airworthy machine!

The original X-5 flew from Biak New Guinea (Irian Jaya) and had no de-icers as the K-688 was used in a much colder environment it has de-icers on all wings and tail.
The C-47 has recently been given a new livery and now looks very much like the T-440 I have done.

Cheers,
Huub

Great you're doing the K-668 Dag :jump: As mentioned that's the one that came to the museum overhere. Here a picture shortly before arriving in formation with a Fokker F-27. It's the only color picture I could find so far. I got a couple black/white pictures as well.

Good stuff Vin :) I plan on making it a bit less faded than in that shot. We'll see.

This white top / camo scheme looks quite odd and very nice!

...The original X-5 flew from Biak New Guinea (Irian Jaya) and had no de-icers ...
So I assume there were 'climatical' reasons for this scheme?
That's interesting, as some of the camoed German Luftwaffe's Noratlas were white topped too:
The ones primarily used for relief missions to Africa received this white top to prevent the fuselage from overheating!

Cheers,
Markus.

According a magazine I have the white roof reduced the heat inside the C-47 with 30%. I thought the K-688 was escorted by F-16s, but it could have been F-27s as well.

Huub

Yes there is....... Biak New Guinea 1960.

The Navy 019 and the Dutch Air Force X-5 are actually the same aircraft. This aircraft was purchased from the Belgian Air Force in 1952 and flew with the Dutch Air Force until 1962, after which is was sold to Air Vietnam where it flew with the registration number XV-NIK. During 1960 an 1961 it was used by the Navy and registered as 019.

Confused? Well I am ;)

PS WIP and still a long way to go, so don't expect anything soon(ish)

Wow Huub :jawdrop:that looks fantastic. Although you claim to lack time, you can't keep your hands of this beauty!:kilroy:

As I said earlier, I work on repaints every every day, most day less than 30 minutes. Sometimes before I go to work and sometimes before I go to bed. Many small steps cover a large distance as well.

Great looking paint Huub! Looking forward to it!:applause:

If I may please take this thread of topic slightly, what are the planes that Wild Bill posted a picture of? I don't recall ever seeing them before.

Although there are three Luftwaffe liveries already done by Hans-Peter Krebs, I'm currently building a complete new master texture set from scratch (new windows, panels, rivets), because the textures included don't cut the mustard.
More to follow soon...

Cheers,
Markus.

Glad I could help, mate!

BTW:
This formulation from my post above
...because the textures included don't cut the mustard.
was a little too rude I think. My apologies!
Let me put it this way:
The textures seem improvable to me!
And that's what I'm trying to do.
More to follow in a seperate thread over in the FS9 section once first results will be presentable!

Sorry,
Markus.

I found this one at Flightsim.com. Another repaint by squirrel. Those fifties and sixties paint schemes look really wonderful on this model!

It is available in the library for those who want it. The next one will be the X-5 from the Dutch Military Aviation museum.

Enjoy,
Huub
