Very interesting. I need to add some more markings to it and weather it slightly. I have the RDAF book by Jan Jørgensen where K-688 is featured heavily. I need to remove alpha from the fabric covered control surfaces, add dirt here and there and possibly fade the dayglo somewhat. The images I have of it shows a pristine paint finish but I need to do something.
Is there such a thing as a camouflaged KLu/MLD C-47 and are you planning to do any?
Thanks
Both the RNAF and the MLD (Royal Navy) flew camouflaged C-47s. I just started on a camouflage scheme which hopefully will become the 019, from which I have some nice pictures. In general the scheme looks much like the scheme of the X-5. Only the border between upper and bottom colours is different and the colour for the lower surfaces is different. So once I have finished the 019 the X-5 isn't that much work, especially as I can use parts from the previous repaints I have done, like the white roof from the KLM machine.
However my free time is very limited so it might take some time before these are finished. (I currently work with an average of 1 line per day
The K-688 arrived in the early eighties at Soesterberg. I was still in the Air Force and I saw it arrive at Soesterberg flying in formation with two F-16s. It was pure coincidence I was on duty that day, but I love the sight when it made a few low passes before it landed.
After it had been sprayed in Dutch colours is has been put on display in front of the museum. After a short period it was already hard to realise it had arrived as an airworthy machine!
The original X-5 flew from Biak New Guinea (Irian Jaya) and had no de-icers as the K-688 was used in a much colder environment it has de-icers on all wings and tail.
The C-47 has recently been given a new livery and now looks very much like the T-440 I have done.
Cheers,
Huub
As mentioned that's the one that came to the museum overhere. Here a picture shortly before arriving in formation with a Fokker F-27. It's the only color picture I could find so far. I got a couple black/white pictures as well.
that looks fantastic. Although you claim to lack time, you can't keep your hands of this beauty!
