The Thorp has been uploaded!

I'm already stumped, lol. . .I have no idea how to produce the specular texture, lol.:salute:

Don't worry about the specular just yet. Concentrate on getting it all painted, then I, or someone will help you out ;) What's your graphics program?

Paint Shop Pro.

Alright, we're good to go I think. We'll get it sorted out.

ZK-KID. Work in progress. Nothing is definite but the strip colors at this stage. And there's plenty of tweaking to be done yet.

I know that site and this series of pics well. The only problem would be that the way my model was done you are stuck with a polished spinner.

Oleboy, sorry, I didn't mean to imply that the site would be useful for full painting resources. I just thought it might be helpful to you guys in getting ideas for schemes that looked cool, to further research, since it has boatloads of Thorp shots.

I found N55RC there, and then just Bing-searched for the site that had all kinds of more useful shots... http://aapconline.com/dlprince/sa/ThorpLog.htm

I'm the one who should be saying sorry, Denny. I've never been much good for sensible conversation in these boxes. What I want to say, never gets put down to words to make sense, and I always inevitably get misunderstood..lol.

As for the Thorp, I'm so buried with pictures of them it's almost pathetic. For my interests in repaints anyway. I can't say I'll be doing the one you mention though.

If someone else wants to try the checkerboard repaint, please feel free. I'm really not into this FSX style of repainting. . . .give me the simple 32bit bitmap style any day. I really don't have any desire to dive into the complexities of this. I can sort of see the need if an airplane skin is heavily riveted or has a lot of panel lines that can be bumped, but for the average airplane with little surface anomalies, it just seems overrated. Go for it somebody, I'm done, lol.:salute:

DOH!!! (Homer Simpson)

Was it the paint that intimidated you, or the process of FSX repainting methods in general?
..If you enjoy painting as you lead me to believe, once you get through this learning curve for FSX, you'll never go back. The repaint quality is superior.

The only real difference that needs to be done, are that the textures need to be flipped within DXTBMP. And sometimes the Alphas might need flipping.

Yea, the method is just more involved than it needs to be. . . .do a single layer 32bit bmp, add an alpha and your done just is a no-brainer. . .with FSX you've got the main texture, then a bump map, then a specular shine and each of those needs to be tweaked just right to get the effect you're looking for and then you might spend a third of the time you're flying outside the airplane to take screens, but most of it is inside. If you fly multiplayer, chances are the folks you're flying with won't see your plane close up except for the brief time you're on the ground before you take off or they won't see it at all because they don't have it anyway, lol. Just strikes me as way overdone for the little time we might spend looking at the airplane in great detail. It just seems like a lot of work for the brief "oooooh look at that" factor. Just my opinion.:salute:

Oh, I understand. Believe me. I guess I'm an odd one. Myself, I like the challenge of a repaint in general. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with the thought of doing them just right, I have to save and exit to revisit at a later time. But to me, I see it as a personal form of expression. Art if you will, but my canvas is my template. I honestly endure the challenges, as nutty as it may sound.

That looks great.:salute:.unfortunately I don't have any pics of this Thorp although I will have hunt around...the best response will probably be from SANZ which you have already written to as per your other thread.

I appreciate any help you offer Naki. I really want to do this one right. Unfortunately, if I can not find other pictures, this one I will not release. My apologies now just in case.

For the meantime, I went with the design I'm guessing it to be on the wings. Here's my progress so far. Maybe I should not post anymore shots of this one? Oh well. Here they are anyway.
