• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

You know, looking at the stuff that keeps coming our way, it doesn't feel too different from FS2011...without any of the pain!

Yeah Bill, Alastair, Andy, Pete, Wing_Z, Paolo, Mick, you guys are so right. This is a great bunch together. Thanks to all the great add-on's I don't think I'll leave FS2004 very soon if at all.
How lucky I've been to meet some of the Dutch guys a couple of time in person too. Who knows I might meet up with you kiwi guys when I'm in the Auckland region in about 6 months and maybe drink a Monteith or a Speight.

No need really. With all the great work being done by some of the guys here in tweaking and polishing existing FS9 addons (mention a plane and Smoothie will paint it, Nigel will put an engine in it & Racartron will give it lights to find the way) as, for example, a group are doing with the old Alphasim Jaguar; and with Bill's unlimited export technique overcoming the old limitations and inspiring new development (Steve's Canberras and Chris' Vengeance, for example) - well, why do we need to leave.
 
I got FS9 as a Christmas present in 2008 and was given FSX Deluxe by the owner of a local pizza shop how got out of MS flight sims after being really disappointed by FSX. At the time, my system would not run FSX...so I flew FS9, tweaked FS9 planes (and continue to do so). Now I have a system that chews FSX up and spits it out....but I still fly FS9. There are things about FSX that I do like.....but overall, FS9 suits my taste better, better fits with my flying habits and has more than enough freeware planes to keep me busy for many years to come. If the wealth of freeware planes were there for FSX...planes that are the type that I fly.....then maybe I would spend more time in FSX. I have no need or reason to leave FS9 behind...so this is my home forum now and for many years to come.

Hi Bill...

Like OBIO, I can't seem to get away from FS9, despite having a warp drive PC as well, which also will swiftly hand FSX it's back side without a flinch.

I see no reason to give up FS9... I have so much for it, both free and payware, and the sim looks just as good IMHO.

Been messing with FSX since March but I still hang out here and at CFS2 . Some of the FSX stuff gets a bit overwhelming, then I gotta get back to what I'm comfortable with. :)
 
Funny the timing of this, but welcomed very much. I just got a spanking new system that finally allows me to run FSX at nearly full sliders right. I've spent the last few days testing the sim, and while I like what I see and certainly will be spending more time with it, I am pining for FS2004. Like an idiot I lent the game to friend back in England and so cannot reinstall until the new copy I;ve ordered arrives. The truth is, I love the old girl and cannot wait to get it back on, sliders full right and enjoy the frame rates I never could quite get before.

FSX is going to take me some time to suss out entirely, new syntax, .dds textures etc, but FS2004 still looks great and so is so easy.

Totally echo this (and Obio's comments above). My current Rig will run FSX pretty well, sliders about 2/3-3/4 right, it's all very pretty, the water looks nice, the sky looks nice but .....

Well, the but is, I'm back to the old days of having to avoid certain areas if I'm flying certain addons; and I thought, why am I bothering? I have a main FS9 install that also looks pretty, has nice water, nice sky etc and where I can fly what I want wherever I want with no issues. For example, when Bill first released his Boeing 797 I put some screenshots up; I took her up out of FlyTampa Seattle with UT USA, Zinertek Water, Flight1 Flight Environment, 100% traffic (mainly WOAI but plenty of GA on the horizon) - and not a frame was lost, not a single blip!

FSX will be there for planes that aren't available in FS9 (Razbam TA-7) or are just so sweet they can't be ignored (anything by Rob Richardson or Piglet); but in the main FS9 it is, and FS9 it will stay!
