Hello Dave Cumming,
Now to think back a bit, I visited the NASM in Washington about the time I started the Macchi C.205.
I was finding that the shape of the tail fin was not consistent in various drawings so I went to this aeroplane to get the definitive answer.
After I am done with the first cut at a Veltro, it would not be difficult to edit this beast to its ancestor the Folgore.

Mr Cumming is actually from the UK and is here "on holiday" which in American means he is "on vacation".

The Macchi C.202 is hanging from the ceiling over a Spitfire Mk.VII (rare) and a P-51D. Also in the room is a Me 109G-6, a A6M5 Model 52 Reisen, the cockpit section of a B-26 (Flak Bait), a DB605 engine and a R-2800 engine.
There might be more stuff in that room I don't remember, but I have been going there since I was a kid. I don't think there is a A-20 Havoc in the museum there.
Evergreen? I have never been there but I understand there is a FW 190D-13 out there.

If its not too late, may I suggest to Dave, that to please everyone, he be methodical in his visit. By this I mean that he limits shots of each aircraft to say eight. Front distant, front close, left distant,left close, right distant, right close, rear distant, rear close. Failing that, a shot taken at every 45 degrees. Posting them on his own thread would be a great resource, one that all could contribute to whenever an aviation museum is visited.

I was thinking more on the lines of a completely new category so that if, for example I have photos of a B17, I post them as a thread. If you also have photos of a B17 you could add them to that thread. Similarly there would be threads for P47, P51 and so on and so forth. It would be a fantastic resource not only for CFS1. I think the moderaters will have to get in on this.

sorry Smilo but I have a natural aversion to reading small print on the bottom, especially on documents...usually contains stuff designed for the human being not to understand.
If it could be possible to arrange a new subject (not a thread) on the lines of the CFS1, CFS2 and CFS3 categories dedicated to the collection of photographic resources, then each thread would be allocated to a particular type of aircraft. Thus whenever any of us visits a museum, we can start a new thread if the type hasn't been covered before or add to the thread already started for that particular aircraft. the more we all visit the museums then the better for those museums and the increased volume of available photos for us.

after finishing an article about the NATS,
two more absentees come to mind.
the Boeing 314 and the Martin 130.
then there is the Kawanishi H6K, Mavis,
which i may have mentioned before.
this one is important because it was the first
aircraft downed by a p-38.

Targets
The Kawanishi H6K has interest because it makes a worthy Target? Hmmmm.....
I think the Kawanishi H8K is a much more worthy subject as a high performance flying boat.
How about a Kawanishi N1K2-Ja? That one is definitely on my build list.
The Boeing Clippers and Martin flying boats are also interesting as part of the "Golden Age" aircraft. Also from the Golden Age would be something like a Beech Staggerwing. I have tried to find drawings of that aircraft though I haven't found enough to begin a project.
I still have a zillion current projects going on and a bunch that I still want to start. Today I did some more work on the Macchi C.205. With the extra Parts freed up, I decided to put in some Landing Gear Wells. I had thought about it before but didn't have enough resources initially. I'm ALMOST done laying out the textures. Next comes the panel lines and after that comes the actual paint job which I am still deciding on.
I ran into a rather strange situation with the A6M5 I built years ago. I found that the plane seemed to be very sluggish on take-off and saw that it was down to about half of its proper engine power. If anyone else has downloaded this Zero, can you check what the engine power is on your version? I am hoping I didn't screw up the version I uploaded.

You seem to have the same problems that I have in that one thing leads to accessing other projects to apply a new technique or to see how something was done months or even years ago. Even a mention of an aircraft leads to a rummage in the old files. Just a few lines you said recently has me looking at my old seaplane and flying boats, the Lerwick just needs textures so I'll get my finger out.

Build or complete whatever pleases you. Actually most of my recent hobby time has been spent on Action Figures.
I was poking around tonight on another CFS computer when my son was using this laptop for his gaming.
What I found was a fairly good Macchi C.205 Veltro for which I missed a screenshot and this Folgore which illustrates a very good painting / texturing subject.
When possible, do not leave the top of a Fuselage flat. Note that in this screenshot, the right side textures are "smeared" across the top. If there were a slight peak, this would not be an issue. Also note that the right and left side textures don't really line up across the Fuselage Spine in the back either.

Neat Little Aircraft Animator Trick
The Macchi C205 Veltro remains in the paint shop. I switched over to Gray Primer because I believe it shows up the panel lines better. I have been running the aircraft through Aircraft Animator periodically just because I really like the way the Spiral Spinner looks when animated.
As a side effect, I thought I would pass on what I believe is a neat little trick:
Aircraft Animator automatically creates a "Prop Disc" based on what it determines to be the propeller.
In the case of my aircraft designs, there are really TWO propellers for a single engine aircraft: The actual Propeller and a "Prop Blur" which is a Transparent Gray Triangle for each blade of the actual propeller.
AA will try to give each "Propeller" a Transparent "Prop Disc".
One of these should be deleted because only one is needed.
The Radius of the Propeller on the Veltro is 5 feet.
The suggested radius of the prop disc from AA is 1.6 meters while 5 feet converts to 1.52-something meters.
The cool thing is that while AA only remembers your propeller diameter to 0.1 meter, it will allow you to set a value much finner than that.
This screenshot shows a Prop Disc of 1.53 meters.
It will need to be set again if the aircraft takes another trip through AA.
