Glowing Heat B-58 Hustler for FSX on Flightsim Store!!!

Hmm! I'm not so sure. Like all aircraft, these all went through a few different paint schemes and my photo suggests a) the stripes were different and b) appear as dark in b/w as the nose/anti-glare panel so possibly black. I'll change them and see what they look like. If someone has a clearer image of the artwork for Road Runner I'd like to add that at some point as well.

But thanks - I'm glad you like them.:encouragement:

I'd go with black vertical stripes on the pod but those on the tail are a lighter color similar to the horizontal stripes on the national insignia. The USAF lettering and the blue around the star look to be darker as well.
Anyway, just my opinion. Looks nice in any case.
:ernaehrung004:

Changed to insignia red and tried taking a black-and-white with the light about right. Just adds to the confusion. The pod in shade would be darker but neither look as dark so then it's down to contrast in the photo!:indecisiveness: I'll put out an alternate early next week anyway, along with 'Ginger'.

Hi Dave,

This has been bothering me so much that I've been going through my books, and I've managed to find the same colour photo I linked to in International Air Power Review Vol. 2 page 131 - it has quite a large section on the Hustler. That photo shows it with a similar red to 'Firefly' and the ARDC red tail version. However, it could've been painted in black also during it's career. As yet unfortunately, I've not found any photo of the Nose art....

Well, I've posted a red version here now, as well as 'Ginger'. That's me done for now. If anyone has requests for a particular number I'll do what I can if you can direct me to some decent photos....!

Greased Lightning

Hi Dave,

I am really enjoying your new textures for the Glowingheat B-58 Hustler (but then I also loved your textures for the Alphasim version).

Would it be possible for you to consider doing a "Greased Lightning" texture? It has never been done previously, and would be perfect for flying from SDB's new Bunker Hill scenery. According to what I find in my Aerograph 4 (Convair B-58) reference, I believe that all you would have to do is take your existing beautiful B-58A and change the tail number to 12059 (61-2059). The photo on page 66 does not show any special markings (just the SAC sash and 305th badge).

Best regards,

Bill

I'll publish as soon as I can. It's depicted pretty much as it is in the SAC museum.

Since getting this one I've been madly 'fiddling'....
Found an odd model 'bug' when swapping out the burner effects for others not quite so 'loud'..ie ones from the Alpha/Virtavia F105. The effects 'disappear' on the inboard engines unless viewed from specific angles....the outer ones are fine.

Had already done a 2D pit from the alpha VC screencap...so added that [gonna redo it to 1680x1050 eventually - and 'match' this one's VC].... but then got into a D.I.Y. paintkit in 2048 res... partly from the Alpha's 1024 and mostly from scratch.....

Here's a WIP....

I've got about 50 layers [overkill] for all the versions of camo around [and metal, obviously] but at this stage it's just the fuse-front-t ... none of the others...and not even the spec ....but if you flip the DDS and take a close look at the text - 'most' of it reads 'right'...;)

If anyone knows how to solve the model anomaly with the inboard burners that'd be appreciated...as I said...the outer ones function as I set them...;)

Like I said....'fiddling with it'....here's something from the 'paint kit' .....;)

Ignore the anacronysms ....'Bugstompers'....'Wonder Woman'.....[pretty much everything]...;)

There were 78 layers in the original master for fuselage_front_t but that covered the seven in the releases and five follow-ons. Reduced to only 14 layers (one B-58 and one TB-58) for the original paintklit.

The text on the original master textures all read left to right. Converting to DDS for use in FSX flips the texture so they are upside down. I only mention this because in your screen shot the cockpit hatches are at the top of your texture image and by design they should run along the bottom. Much easier to work with that way.
:ernaehrung004:

The burner bug is sim related, I spent a long time trying to figure out why the inner effects would flick on and off when changing viewing position, it seems to be an anomaly because if you place the effects at the same position back all 4 are visible!

I always thought it was a display issue generated by the sim not working out how to show them properly. That's why I resorted to a modelled inner burner section along with effect placement issues in FSX.

Screenshots look great :mixed-smiley-010:

Yes, last time I 'mastered' my own kit was in 4096 for Tim Conrad's A12A Avenger II which was mostly all-in-one - all the repaint effort/s were in the one bitmap. This time they're in 'bits' but most of the detail texts, etc are in the front...and I kinda got used to leaving it all upside-down DDS-style, flipping everything I made/added.

I don't know whether it's even appropriate to make this 'kit' available online as some of it is [c] Alpha/Virtavia/Glowingheat/yourself.... so if there's any request for it I'd have to run it past all concerned. [I'm an Admin on Stardock's Wincustomize.com - a site devoted to the skinning of the MS GUI - and oversee [moderate] uploads/submissions for potential copyright infringement - so am cognizant on issues of 'distribution']...;)

Yep, figured it was a sim problem .... couldn't understand how a functional model form could itself pose issues between inner and outer burners - other than the staggered layout...
Still, half of it looks 'good' .... I'll try hooking up the original burners to the inners only ....see how that behaves...;)

Started life as one of DaveQ's paints...lost the black....went 'traditional' u-side Vietnam vintage...bit of nose-art ...100 missions badge, 'kills' etc. and named it 'Miss Guided' - still No.1 Sqdn RAAF.
Now with spec kit to match [not metal yet]. Painting inspired by Thuds of the era ...;)

Ignore the 'desktop'....find it easier to be in Windowed in FSX while painting ...;)

WIP of my first attempt to edit textures in any sim...

Follow up on the polished aluminum work...still some work to do, but getting better! A HUGE thanks to DaveQ for some one on one instruction and Q&A...thanks Dave!

Also with DaveQ's permission I'm simply editing one of his fabulous paints to learn the ropes.

Looking great:adoration: and yeah - I tend to like the daylight scheme better. Not sure whether Project Bullseye was for night or day interdiction; I reckon probably both. B-52's certainly appeared in both night and day schemes.
