Livery a bit speculative but most photos show active units in the late '50's-early 60's with Arctic Red on nose, wing tips and a rear fuselage band. Clearly the wing tanks shouldn't be there but gives Mike an idea as to how she looked before she went into the water. Not got time to upload before I go away, will finish and post when I get back.

Last two airworthy C97

A number of KC-97s survive, at least two of which are potentially airworthy: 52-2718 / N117GA Angel of Deliverance operated by the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation.,[31] and N1365N known as Tanker 97 and operated until recently as an aerial firefighting airtanker by Hawkins & Powers.

Tanker 97 might make for a good repaint. Never seen that one before........
 
Contrary to what some reports/online websites may state, there really aren't any KC-97's currently flying at all at this time. The only one close to it is the Berlin Airlift Foundation's "Angel of Deliverance", as already has been noted, but it hasn't flown in 14 years. Since then, it has been under intensive maintenance/restoration to fly again, which it is finally getting very near to, but the Foundation still needs a lot of financial support to make that happen.

Progress continues on the BAHF Angel of Deliverance, 52-2718. I worked on it from 1999-2011, if you watch the gear test videos I was at the FE panel and later the hand crank in the back. All four engines & props have been re hung and ran, but there are some certification issues with the FAA right now.

XA-PII, 53-3816, was the last KC-97 built and the last viable option for an as-is flyable C-97. Unfortunately, no one stepped up to undertake a project, and it was auctioned off in 2003. The BAHF purchased it, scavenged as many useable parts (including engines) as possible and sold the hulk for scrap. Many parts from 53-3816 are now in 52-2718.

The Hawkins & Powers assets, including N1365N "Tanker 97", were sold off around 2004. Tanker 97 was purchased by Clay Lacy for conversion into a 377 clone. They mated the belly from 53-0208 (N397HP) to it because of the retardant tanks installed in N1365N. The project has stalled, I haven’t heard any updates in over year.

Boeing C-97G Stratofreighter, cn 17089, 53-3816, in the colors of AeroPacifico XA-PII. It was the last C-97G built. Operated for Bimbo Bread Company, Mexico. 2003, a/c was partly scrapped in Tuscon/Arizona. Most of parts are sold to Berlin Airlift Historical Foundaton to be used for N117GA "Angel Of Deliverence".
 
Jan Kees, the repaint of "Angel of Deliverance" is looking great! Just the red on the tail/wings is a bit off. It should match the same as the insignia red in the stars & bars, as seen in the photos below (including a color chip). It's the same case with the blue markings being applied using insignia blue, just the same as the stars & bars.





 
Ha, there you go, being colorblind is a bit of a handicap when painting aircraft. I lifted the color of a pic I had, never saw the difference...
I'll upload a new version when I get back, next weekend or so.
 
Just looking out for ya, buddy! ; ) I look forward to flying it in the sim when you have it ready/released. I've been really enjoying your MN ANG scheme.

I guess I could use your red color swatch and fill in the old red with that - how about the blue stripe on the fuselage? Is that the correct shade?


How about this for insigna blue?
