Officially the RAF SAR capability was due to be handed over on the 4th October; Chivenor being the last RAF station to operate. However, due to technical difficulties, a request by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency for them to continue providing cover for a further short period of time. The final handover took place last week. Now, the South West SAR is covered from M&CA base at St. Athan in South Wales.
Chivenor is still training but only for 'Military SAR', but only for a short time.

As for RN SAR, I'm sure they stopped before the RAF!
And for the dear old Sea King; April/May next year marks the end of the line! Very sad!
