A Lockheed "Rounder"

That version will surely be my mount for aerial adventure with the computer. Any chance of a turret on the model, but without the rockets, Kind of like the Grizzly?

This version of the Lockheed has sure progressed from my old CFS 2 Harpoon!

This version of the Lockheed as sure progressed from my old CFS 2 Harpoon!

I can do that, and will do a setup for the CFS2 guys to mod as well.

Clean version looks good Milton. As far as texturing, as mentioned, the two-toned blue would look nice (and is accurate).

You might note that I eliminated the hardpoints as well so this could double as a civilian version. One option is to leave them in and make them transparent with the alpha channel.

Really looking forward to this. Ii know that as one who uses P3D I cam on to this thread a little late but I know I will do a couple of RAAF and Aussie civilian paints once the paint kit becomes available.

That sounds great! I will have an FSX beta available when she is ready. Not sure when Matt can have a paint kit ready though.

I sent out a few "pre-beta" versions so I can get some feedback while I am in process of finalizing changes for the beta. So hopefully we can get through the beta even quicker and get this out to your guys (and gals ... Fire Kitten).

That would work if they didn't throw a shadow but I doubt that would happen being so far under the wing.

Found what appears to be a vintage air to air color photo of an in mission Poon. It's a bit washed out but interesting I think:

Nice A2A video of a restored bare metal Poon over San Francisco:

paintkit shouldn't be too difficult Milton, just gotta remove the shadows under wing of the Rockets and Tanks as a new layer then tidy up the PSD's...

Currently.... i'm messing with a colour.... HEX:f9a01b common name 'Trainer Yellow'

will get Bare Metal and this Yellow Peril (catchy... might call it that.....) one done then start paintkitting the thing.... :salute:

someone mentioned a Yellow Harpoon *starts singing "We're all flying on a yellov PV-2, a yellow PV-2, a yellow PV-2...."* < yes i have actually been rewriting Beatles lyrics in my head while repainting this one :icon_lol:

now.... what about Markings? thoughts/suggestions?

In case of the Connie they had to add a third for stability, but overall there's a remarkable similarity in wing and tail designs for a lot of Lockheeds around WW2; from the model 10, 12 and 14, the P-38 to the Constellation!

Hi Ferry,

yep, the Connie wing is an upscaled P-38 wing as well. Once they discovered they could make fast all-metal aircraft with the L-10, they pretty much stuck to what worked. However, they introduced more and more features elsewhere, like the manual override lever for the hydraulic surface control system in the Connie.

Best regards
Volker

Great shot of "E4", Moses03! Thanks for posting. Just the type I'd love to put brush to. :salute:

Thank you Matt ... everyone will appreciate that. :applause:

Matt, that yellow paint with the US national insignia would pass for a Navy target tug. I know they used some B-26s as target tugs, why not a PV-2? Probably should go with the clean model without a turret for that though.

just wait till you guys see how i'm working the bare metal... it's using 2 programs.... 3DS Max and Photoshop.... lots of work but the final effect should be worth it.... i'll give you a sneak peek of part of the process ;) once it's rendered anyways... i think a few you might even want the render as a wallpaper :icon_lol:! you know me guys always finding new techniques to push things that bit further....

EDIT.... here we go... only showing a small selection while i develop the technique but here you guys go... some parts are hidden also.... that reflection you see will be rendered straight side onto the mapping leaving it's reflection...

:kilroy: I am not a real big fan of PV-2, but Wow! what a job you all are doing! This is going to make a lot of folks happy! Shucks, maybe even me.

:ichile:

basically what this will do is leave me with a darkened area where the engine is, this then get's rendered out and imported into Photoshop for tweaking and adjustments before finally being added to the airframe, now i WILL be doing a plain version without these direct side reflections but as i say this is developing new techniques for future uses :salute:

Well that is interesting Matt. :wiggle: It may be useful in a highly polished version of a bare metal or glossy paint scheme. I did use the xxx_t approach on textures in the event some might wish to do glossy/reflective textures with the alpha channel.

It can also be useful for shading/shadowing as well.

We did a similar thing on the Howard 500 original texture but not using your technique. It was just photoreal.

The bare metal textures of operational war time type units seemed pretty dull overall.

It will be interesting to see how this evolves. Thanks

EDIT: Adding that kind of image to the fuse alpha might be interesting.
