Aero L-39 Albatros

Don't worry, a little bit of constructive criticism never hurt anybody, only the idiots that take it to a whole new level of bashing for the sake of it! ;)

" Do it yourself" will fit them better..but anyway, here she is.

Hilarious amount of detail on the RoAF...

Man, you're truly gifted with the paint prush. :applause: I've converted the textures to DXT1/5 though to keep the fps-friendlyness. You can't tell the difference though as you can see in the pics.

Is there a special reason that the Breitling is not in the package? but has to be downloaded? I'm asking since there is a dedicated Breitling model in the package but not the paint. Licensing issues maybe? Like Breitling not allowing their paint in payware packages?

Yes, the reason is that I could never get an answer out of them on it. I contacted them in March about adding their paints, and they said they would get back to me. Called again in April... May... June.... you know the drill. I suspect they were just very busy practicing for their airshow schedule across europe. All power to them, amazing pilots as they are.

Without a definitive answer I could not in good conscience release them in the package, but as someone was most certainly going to do them anyway (and lining up the logo across the bottom of the plane is a nightmare to put it mildly) I figured I would save the painters here some frustration. :)

Thanks all, glad you're getting a kick out of it. The paints are all looking awesome.

Just out of curiosity - do you have to ask the owners of the real planes for every paint as a dev? Did you need to call around Czechs and Slovaks if they are ok with it? Or is Breitling in any way special?

Air forces usually are fine with it but civilian operators eg. breitling can be finicky due to copyright reasons...

how did you do that, ive noticed that my fps is affected by that repaint and i'm gutted!

Using DXTBMP - load dds, save dds with DXT1 (for fuse) or DXT5 (for specs because they have alpha) and then do it again and again and again. The RoAF textureset now only is 12.6MB large, without any visible disadvantages. If yago is ok with it, I can reupload the conversion for you - to save you (and maybe others) the conversion work.

Yes you are correct. Air Forces for the most part fall into public domain, as they operate entirely on taxpayer dollars. The population of a nation effectively owns them and their airplanes... dictatorships aside... but then I didn't make any of those, nor would I. ;)

Private airplanes are a different matter, and I made sure to get permission from the owner of each airplane represented in the package before starting on their paints.

All thanks to those F-111's:applause:

While I agree the F-111's in 1986 had the desired effect of halting the bombings of US personnel in Germany etc, I think it was diplomacy after the Lockerbie bombing that helped iron out the differences gradually over time. At least these days we're on speaking terms. :ernae:

That would be much appreciated if he says ok to it!!

No sir, but thank you..It is a big quality difference on DXT1 .Nobody is using DXT1 since FS98.You put a ton of mipmaps on that texture .You can sure do it for your personal use only.. I don,t have a fast computer and I dont see any major hit with the model.I used same textures on Aerosoft F16 and people said they got better frame rates on that model..I don,t get the issue here.If you can run FSX decent you shouldnt have any problems with those textures.
I was thinking to make it even larger 2048x2048 for better details..

You heard the man, you've to do it yourself. Sorry mate. But it's only a matter of a cup of coffee and a few minutes really. I beg to differ in respect to quality though...

For once the main fuse textures don't even have alpha layer so DXT3/5 doesn't make any sense at all. All the fuse textures of the L-39 that come with it use DXT1 but the way. The spec maps wich use alpha layers use DXT5 because it's better than DXT3 in respect to alpha layer compression. I agree that 32bit looks the best - we don't have to argue about that. But the texture load is significant and with it the load times when you switch views and such. I respect that you make 32bit to get the best quality possible. I'll convert them to DXT for my personal use though becaues it squeezes out the last bit of performance.

About 2048 textures, I made the observation that FSX doesn't care about the texture size as long as its DXT. With my 377 (uses 2048s) there is a huge hit if I convert those to 32bit vs. the DXT they come in. 2048DXT is also the perfect way to avoid compression artifacts.

I must admit though yago, some of the textures I use do affect my frames, your mirage IIIS was an amazing paint job but for some reason my computer just didn't like it lol, plus in my opinion from your screens I think you do have a good system! Most of your textures work great but for some unknown reason to me the odd one just seems to slow down my comp, this is not a complaint in anyway, I still think your the master lol:ernae: and thanks for all your great paints!
some shots of me here having fun shooting up the valley leading to the matterhorn!
