AI bombers passing/ignoring waypoints

That's a good question DW.

It would be interesting to hear what mission designers have to say, surely this issue has been encountered before.

Since you mentioned attacking ships with dive bombers my son said if the ship is not destroyed the attacking plane will keep attacking with guns until the target is destroyed.Another thing is not all planes drop their bombs on their first attack and will get to alt and attack again with their bombs.If you have the tactical display on you can tell which planes dropped their bombs and which didn't,the lighter colored ones haven't dropped them.

This is in one of Talon's mission tips.He knew a lot about how that AI behaved and how to work with it or around it.Remember he is the one who developed how to torpedo attack ships in harbor and surrounded by mountains 20 years ago.

I made a quick test mission with 2 Vals as wingmen and set out to destroy an amtrack. The Vals both attacked as expected making 2 passes, they didn't hit anything, and to my surprise I actually did :redfire:
They followed the waypoints to a degree and landed successfully afterwards.

I think the number of waypoints used comes into play and the proximity of them to the previous waypoints. What version of the Stuka are you using? I'll download it and give it a try and see if I can get the same results.

DW, the Vals are a Cat10 while the Stukas are a Cat3. I believe this explains why the Vals glide bomb and the Stukas roll over and dive straight down on the target. I switched the Stukas to Cat10 and they also began glide bombing. So, to keep the Stuka attacks as realistic as possible I will maintain the Cat3.

Heide, using Cat3 the Stukas all release on the first pass. If I switch to Cat10 like the Val they sometimes make 2 or more passes conduct all passes as glide bombing. So, again, to keep it as realistic as possible I'll stick to Cat3 for the Stuka. For ship attacks I only use the JU-88 or the DO-17 both of which I have a dive bomber version for. These attacks that are causing me grief though, are all for the Stuka and against land based targets. (docks, infrastructure, ect.)

Aussie, I remember reading that the distance from the target approach way point to the attack way point should be a minimum of 7 miles. Also, only one of the turns is 90 degrees. All the other turns are considerably less. With that in mind I set up the waypoints for the Stukas as follows:

wpt 1 Spawn @10K Ft travel 13 miles
wpt 2 Turn @10K Ft travel 7-8 miles (this is the only turn of 90 degrees)
wpt 4 Attack @10K Ft travel 7-8 miles (after attack)
wpt 5 Turn @ 4K Ft travel 16 miles
wpt 6 Turn @ 4K Ft travel 8 miles
wpt 7 Land at Base

But here's another interesting anomaly. Since the Stukas roll over and dive on the target they should, when pulling up after releasing the bombs, be facing back the way they came. Could it be possible that the after attack way point should be back in this direction? With the way points left as I wrote them, I can see them roll over, dive down and in mid dive roll again to be facing the next way point before releasing their bombs and pulling up.

I'll have to check which Stuka I have and let you know.
 
Well I hope you get it straightened out soon. I can’t mod now. Somethings going on can’t sleep last two nights getting out of breath about the time I nod off. Had a enlarged heart awhile back I’m starting to think it’s heart failure. Gotta go to work somehow. Y’all be good or good at it.

I’m afraid I’ll lose my job if I don’t go to work I only have three hours unpaid time left and I have 11 hours vacation but you can’t call that in. I feel miserable. It happens when I’m awake too but when I’m in bed I get winded heart beating harder as soon as I hit the pillow but it gets better then as your about to crash you get jolted up by your heart beating and can’t catch your breath. I’d probably upset everyone in the house if I become a burden as I’m not liked much. I have to sleep on the couch until wife goes to work. So many people here I don’t try to cook for myself I tried a couple of times but didn’t work out just always in somebody’s way. I have to eat fast food all meals. Get chewed out all the time for everything so yeah I’m a tough bird but I think life is catching up. Don’t know about tonight but if I can’t sleep again I’m hurting because I have to work tomorrow also.
 
Beat all I have Cholesteatomas in my left ear. Only surgery can fix it. My right ear had the same problem and I had surgery on 9 11 same day the airplanes crashed into the trade center. I could hear before surgery but after not much nearly deaf . I haven’t even taken a blood pressure pill or diabetes drug for almost a year now. I just go I guess I’m not happy here but I have two kids I don’t want them upset. I did run away twice once to the Philippines and once more because of the same woman in the Philippines but the wife tracked me down on the Eastern side of the USA before at my parents before I could leave for the Philippines again. That was two years ago and my dad according to my mom has gone way done hill. She has to pay the bills now he can’t remember nothing. She ain’t well either. Abby the girl from the Philippines she was really nice and she liked cooking. I do miss her. I guess I’ve nothing left but to kill over anyway beats this madhouse.
 
Well I did make it to work. Don’t feel really good but I’m working. Bad part I’m on the third floor so all those stairs. Yesterday I was on the forth floor. Hopefully I’ll catch a break and get some shut eye or I’ll be in trouble tomorrow. Y’all hold the fort down while I’m at work.
 
DW, please seek treatment. No job is worth working yourself to death. I lost my dad to CHF. He was active all his life and even went to the YMCA at 5AM, 3 days a week to workout at the age of 85. This hit him out of the blue and treatment at least gave us 4 more years with him.
 
DW: Back in 2010 I had chest pains while shoveling snow. I saw my doc, who sent me to the naval hospital for a stress test and catheterization. They kept me and 2 days later I had a triple bypass.

Get checked out, my friend. You only get one life.

CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!! I had what I thought was a bad cold, and after bullying by my family, went (walked into) the ER. Half an hour later, after an enzyme test, the duty nurse told me I'd had a heart attack. Two weeks later, my doctor, whom I've known since I was four years old, told me I was 50/50 for the transplant list. I was that close to being in real trouble. Now I ride my bike to work every day, doing a minimum of 10 miles through the winter. DON'T give up; don't try and self-diagnose; CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!!

Thanks friends. Yeah last testing I did I had what’s called an enlarged heart but haven’t been to the doctor since. To be honest I think I just about gave up and said if it’s time to go so be it. Good news I slept good last night no catches my breath keeping me up. My heart has been acting funny for years and I expect it flames up goes down or I don’t know but years ago I remember I was having issues and they kept telling me nothing wrong with your heart. I could stand up and get out of breath but nothing was wrong. I hà test ran. Last time was first time they actually saw anything the enlarged heart but my past I don’t know what to do especially I don’t want to miss work go there and hear nothing wrong I’m just stating my experience. I guess you might say I’m not a big fan of doctors but that’s been my experience and I’m sure others wouldn’t be alive without them but me I guess I’m bad luck I don’t know.
 
My son came up with a suggestion.

Why not make a way point near by,a few miles away, you can warp to after all the tasks you want happen are completed.This way all the planes should form up there.

First I want to apologize for tainting the thread but I wouldn’t have done it if I wasn’t scared. This thread is about a dive bomber issue not a dying lunatic or whatever. As far as I can tell and I’m certainly going to be upfront with you I’m not the sharpest cookie out there but I did have a good night of sleep last night. What we know so far is the behavior of the aircraft going where they are suppose to be going isn’t working. The theory that it’s the air file is starting to look questionable since the Val didn’t do the job either. This to me sounds like a mission problem and something is not in sync. Not meshing together right leaving the bombers to for whatever reason to be confused after their bomb load. I recommend finding another mission as close to yours as possible and it doesn’t matter it’s Val’s Stukas or Chinese clones of them it’s just for study purposes. See what’s different and make changes closer to yours until it doesn’t work either then you will start to see what’s going on and be able to avoid that issue in the future. You might also want to upload the mission here for somebody to take a look at. We are all together here as a team or that’s what I hope. You got my back I got yours. I don’t know a great deal yet on missions but I’ve certainly have stopped what I was doing to help others with a issue I could fix. Wasn’t that long ago I helped Hertzie to get a skin to show up added a panel and also some custom title screens so if it’s something I could do I’ll do it. Anyway sorry I couldn’t give a solùi on to the problem but I don’t think anybody else has either and I would like you get that mission to do what you want it to do. That’s all Folks any other suggestions other than me to stop writing books and adding brief reponses instead?

Now I have the correct aircraft I'll run more tests, but I think it's essential to get them to warp as they showed a tendency to ignore waypoints after they make bombing runs. Thanks fellas and something tells me Hiede and her son has you heading down the right path and I just want to say thanks for everyone who was concerned about me. I’m still hoping to get my life back on track and hopefully health enough to enjoy it but we will see.

You know as well as I do that when it comes to CFS2 thinks I get ignored a lot.After all the men know more.As for son he is only 12 and they think"What does he know?"They seem to forget we have all of Talon's notes on how to do things and just have to look it up.
