Alabeo`s Staggerwing is out!

Arrival at S45

Thanx TJ,an honest appraisal is very important to a prospective buyer.I do not know of any real world driver of this plane, and that's too bad. However they are out in the real world at $195.000 a copy! So pilots do exist.Flight Manuals avaiable for purests, here... http://www.flight-manuals-on-cd.com/C43.html ...I will wait a bit, hearing from Sim Test Pilots..Visually its a dream...I will look at Rogers Pictures, a bit more ,and probley add this Classic to my Bulging Hanger...Thanx Vin!

Teisco, what you see in Roger's screenies is what the VC looks like. It is seems to be a mix of vintage and modern. Heading indicator is the old horizontal style for instance. There is a single Nav/Com with CDI, no glideslope tho. No GPS, no transponder. Standard external lighting...Navs, Beacon, LL.

IIRC, this was based on one aircraft that is actually flying now, which would explain the cockpit instruments included in the release.

I would have to look into exactly what model/yr the original was and I haven't spent much time reading whatever is available on this particular airplane, but the one thing that sticks out to me is the horizontal stab. Having restored one of these from the ground up over several years, I know that the horizontal stab is ribbed but then covered with a spruce veneer so there would be no ribbing to show. . . .wings, yes, fuselage, yes, rudder, yes. . .but unless the technique changed over time, (which I am not aware of and is very possible), that is what I noticed in some of the very first screenshots I saw.

Aside from that, it looks very much like what I remember seeing, day after day after day for 2 years. It is a beautiful airplane up close and although my one flight in one was simply a few turns around the pattern. . .I was very impressed with how responsive it was. Terrific job Alabeo!!:salute:

OOPS, what the..

After 3 touch n go I have no gear or flap function!! Gear is up flaps up and speed with either never got above 95 mph. Warning placard says never above 110 mph. So I kept speed down before using either gear or flaps. Anybody but me have this issue?

Yes, and the only fix I found was to start over with a new aircraft load.

Is that weird or what ??? 3 perfect touch 'n goes at different airports but 4th was screwed (gear and flaps won't retract). I had an uneasy feeling when I saw the missing compass, and now this ??!!??

Sounds like more cold and dark issues being confused with model errors. Check to make sure you have battery power. Using another plane for a cold and dark in a 'new' plane usually will have bad issues occuring.

Redo the flight starting with a running plane, carry over into the Staggerwing, and do the same flight. I think your battery was dead.

I always start with a running plane (208), then switch......three different pilots on three different pooters......three touch and gos and ??

This is without doubt, excellent value. Bought it and love it.

I have one observation which others may clarify. Is it me or are the prop blades facing the same way? Small hitch, easy fix.:engel016:

As has been stated many times before, the aircraft in your default flight should be a default FsX plane. Then when you switch to an non-default one all should be well.

The prop control behavior seems goofy tho. Seem to be getting more 'power' by pulling the prop control back.

If you look at the RPM gauge you will see that pulling the prop control back, correctly reduces the RPM. It's just the sound that's reversed.

Ya I've noticed that. Also the prop seems to be modeled correctly. In that pulling the big radial prop back allows for increased air speed. (Less drag from big prop). I had her up to 210mph with the prop pulled back to the green arc. Mixture leaned a little at 2500 ft.

I'm enjoying it. To me, the FDE feels believable. I get that big heavy sloppy feeling on landing... and when you get nice and slow the rudder authority goes to crap. I have to work the pedals on takeoff (especially if pulling tail off the ground). It seems to handle a slight crosswind ok (using crab then forward slip). Decent roll rate, at least what I'd expect for a lumbering beast (though at 210mph it's not exactly lumbering it's speedy!).
