Alphasim: The "dead" company that keeps on giving

Yes, I know that Alphasim is now Virtavia.

I was browsing the freeware section on the old Alphasim site and I noticed that the AH-1W has been added to freeware section in both FS2004 and FSX flavors.

Thanks for the heads up. The Cobra is one of my favorite choppers. Did anyone do repaints for it? I cant find any on Flightsim.

But do all these re-releases of the old AlphaSim products come with the same ultra-invasive copy-protection scheme as the recent Virtavia FSX Sea King release ?

If so, I will not be buying any, regardless of how much I would like the model ...

It says on that link:

"This product does not have a registration key, you can simply execute the downloaded file to install" so perhaps not( I dont have the plane..yet!)

Not having bought anything under the new umbrella, this statement is a little worrying. FSD did their reputation a huge amount of damage with overly zealous security policies, accusing many people of piracy when they were just trying to reload product - it would be a real shame if the good name of Alphasim should be similarly tarnished by this new arrangement. :kilroy:

The freeware is pretty much as it would have been downloaded from Alphasim if you purchased it. The new "Virtavia" (Alphasim repackages) packages are just equipped with installers.

Repaints for the alphasim ah-1w Super cobra can be found on Avsim, search for B. Stockwell, the repaint for HMLA-167 is a cracker.

Regards Paul Day.

for the 1W I actually aliased the soundset from the Aerosoft hawk family. Super Cobra uses the same engines.

Those are nice pics!

Thanks Mike, I plugged your soundset in after I saw your post, sounds great, more meaty!
I wonder what this thing is supposed to sound like?

Charl, I hear the real ones all the time - there is a Reserve US Marine squadron based near where I live and they have low-altitude training routes that take them right over my house at about 500ft, very loud and very cool! The soundset I use is pretty close, at least for the external sounds.

Cheers! Mike :salute:

Now that's useful intel...I'll stick to your soundset, then, with confidence! :salute:

So we don't have to speculate I'll ask Phil and report back.
