Army Otter

Bob, please don't you dare to stop anyone from building up a contemporary 'classic' Otter! :d

We need it urgently! :amen:

My #9408 is up now at AVSIM and the Outhouse.
It's dhc3_9408.zip

Any comments will be - as always - highly appreciated!
I'm still learning...

Cheers,
Markus.

Just don't like that big eng. and cowl Bill. You keep up the good work, your country needs you bad.

Thanks, guys!
Glad you like it.

Bob, I can completely understand that the different appereance of the PZL engine is not to your favor! :ernae:

Same goes for me concerning the Turbine Otter - ugly as hell in my eyes!
None of these in my hangar! :hand:

But since I never saw a "real" Otter or have any memories connected to it, this refitted one is O.K. for me.
I must confess that I didn't know the DHC-3 until I saw Eugene's model of the PZL version and I liked it at first glance. Of course I knew Beavers and Twin Otters before and conceived suspicion that there must me a "Single" Otter, but it didn't pass my path...

Cheers,
Markus.

Lots and lots of Otters (466 produced)
http://www.xdh.ca/DHC_Aircraft/DHC-7/DHC-3_Production/dhc-3_production.html

The US Army obviously had quite a few, but the USN ones probably had a more exciting history (and more colourful paint) as they spent most of the time in Antarctica

As well they saw service not only "in the bush" but with major airlines (in the bush)

"CZP" is still flying 55 years later, although with a new look...
dhc3t-cfczp-hulina1.jpg

It can even be done as a PZL version as it had one for a short time...
"In 1983 a Polish PZL-3S engine of 600 horse power was installed in CZP but that engine did not work well with the Otter. It certainly did not work well in CZP, as on 16th August 1984 while cruising near Yellowknife, the engine failed and the pilot had to make a forced landing on a lake. The propeller and hub had left the aircraft when the engine disintegrated. The R- 1340 was re-installed..."

Steven Grant did some really nice work ... I have many hours in his cockpits, the Otter included. :applause:

Beautiful work Markus.

Hi Markus,

the hardest part of this repaint job was redoing the panel lining. The original textures were way too "slick" in my eyes. The result is pure guesswork, for i was not able to find any sources on the panel's arrangement and riveting. And i learned that coroguard is hard to depict too...

I think these provide a good example of the fuselage panel lining :

You can see a bit of the rivet patern here :

And here's a nice piccie of just the fuselage :

A bit of bottom wing panellining here :

That's a nice panel but i think you might want to straighten the mid post. You're supposed to be sitting about in the middle of the cockpit here so the mid post should go straight up. :)

Keep up the great work on the Otter, Markus, although, with the lovely weather of late, i can imagine you'll be spending more time riding that great diesel rail cart of yours ! :mixedsmi:

Tschüss!
Jan

Now that we are talking big seaplanes, how about this one. Have asked a few times in the past. You could put the new Otter on hold. Love to have one....must be some great team of designers just waiting to be asked. Freeware or payware is fine with me.

Thanks again, folks!

Steven's tremendous Husky is my first choice when the bush is calling and there isn't too much cargo to haul, but I didn't keep his Otter. Reloaded it again to give him another try. There may be an adaption of the CSR-123 on him for the "Classic Otter Fraction" in here...

Thanks for the pics, Jan!
Seems like my guesswork is not too far from the original. Stupidly, I haven't made a seperate layer for the lines, as I didn't intend to do further repaints on it. So any adjustments on the lining will be quite hard. Lession learned... :banghead:

Unfortunately, railroading is not always fun!
Currently, I'm recovering of a very hard yesterday's session of laying track and shoveling ballast. Every mouse movement hurts... :isadizzy:

So it's trains now Bill. I see now why you can't get that Otter done. Real live steam, small scale?

Hi, Bob!

I see now why you can't get that Otter done.
Who said something about not getting it done?
It's almost there!
Just the usual 'bells and whistles' to be added...

Note the post-1968 bilingual lettering!

Real live steam, small scale?
No steam, regular scale. The real one. No toys.
Wrote something about it here:

And that's the track we're laying (and our 1934 built Diesel shunter):

Like my airplanes.....big.....I like big steamers. What else do you have going?
Bob

Would any painter be interested in doing a fictional USCG paint on the Otter pzl please. I thought a while back I saw one doing a google search but cant locate it. Could use a few good USCG bush otters for Alaska and Central America.

Could use a few of the PZL or straight-wing turbo models in USCG/CCG/HMCA colors. Caribbean Region of the USCG can be hairy land wise.

Trans, I completely forgot there already was a coastie straightwinger out there. You have to go to flightsim.com and search for: "otterttc.zip" Maybe some of the textures can be salvaged for the PolOtter.

Yep got that one. Markus AC# 1452 Astoria CGAS would be the only special details I look for. Thank you for taking up my req.
