AS F-4 Phantom

Packs 1 and 2 have hole issues - depending on which model gets selected -some do, some don't. Pack 3 has no hole issues.

BTW - there are also holes further down - lower side panels area - not just straight ahead.

DL

Thanks for that...got Pack 3 and all looks good...;)

Which iteration of this critter doesn't have holes in the VC? Wee bit of a deal-breaker....;)

Don't give up! This is possibly due to needing to have the right model pack with the right VC upgrade fix. Just had the same thing myself. Contrary to my usual practice, I have chucked every model, panel, paint known to mankind into one big monster AS Phantom folder. Even the RF-4's. Well, it works and makes chopping and changing easier.

With the release of these as freeware it is easy to mix up the models from Pack 1 and 2 as they have the same numerical series, e.g. model, model.1, model.2, etc however, the VC's in the models from Pack 1 vs. Pack 2 are quite different. I wanted an SEA load-out with twin tanks, gun pod, missles, etc but got similar results from Jafo using a "model.4" (suspect it was in Pack 1 somewhere) which has this load-out together with the Pack 2 Panel fix. I then rummaged around and discovered that "model.7" has the same loadout but comes from Pack 2 so bingo all Don's panel upgrades now work. For the USN/USMC birds most of these are for the Pack 1 models though I cheat and use a "model.2a" (twin tanks) from Pack 2 and then can use the Pack 2 panel fixes with all the naval paints. If you stick with it, even the Pack 1 models look and fly acceptably as FSX portovers.

AS F4 After Burner

Wonder if any one out there that can "doodle" with the AS F-4 after burner and give it that wow effect like what was done with the CS9 version?

Maybe there is one out there that can be modified to fit the AS version.

Vandy 1/VX-4 - Alphasim Phantom

Anyone come across this F-4?

gus2004-vandy-001.jpg

Here is a little info on it... Wondering if and where available?

I think simviation! its only a repaint of the alpha F-4, who is discussed in post #1. but i dont know if that can be downloaded

That was one of Gus Robatto's first repaints.

It's available on avsim - search "Robatto Alphasim" and you'll get everything he did, plus others' who used his templates to paint thereafter ...

Very nice repaint!

Tufun,
Would you be willing to make a nice AB for it? Hint Hint? :jump:
or can we use your CS9 effect on this one?

I do have a nice startup smoke effect or at least better then the stock version. I have posted pics in earlier post in this thread.

I have that paint. vx4vandy1.zip. It was originally at Avsim, but was apparently lost in one of their hacks. Was done by Gus Robatto. Readme says it was WIP, don't know if it was ever updated. PM me and I can send it.

Don

Edit, you found it while I was searching. Disregard. :encouragement: I also see he did update it. I also have that file. Will delete the original v1. :encouragement:

From the archives.

Always like your screenshots Noddy!

Last night I reformatted my hdd and will not be using FSX. I am now with the LM crowd. Now officially a P3Dv2.2 flyer. The stuff Gman is doing in P3D is amazing and he convinced be to go that route.

If you want, give the C9 AB effects a try.

Thanks Tufun, I will see if it will work with the AS version. :wavey:

Edit: where are they?

Did you make a separate file?

Adding TUFun's AB effect

I was trying to add Tufun's AB effect to the AS F-4 per instructions. It works, sorta, A bit long on the flame trail; It looks like something from Dino's F14

Here is the advice I got from one of the posts on the C9 Phantom thread:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforu...ting-the-Cloud-9-Phantom-porting-issue/page15

There are 3 'bits' to an AB actuation...
First, copy the effects in the 'effects' folder to the effects folder in FSX.
Second, find and include/replace the following in the aircraft template.cfg file to your C9 aircraft.cfg...it's in the [lights] section

light.9 = 9, -16.4, -2.25, -3.40, fx_F4E_C9AB ;MOD, classic engine burner 1 <<<Used this one
light.10 = 9, -16.4, 2.25, -3.40, fx_F4E_C9AB ;MOD, classic engine burner 2 <<< Used this one
;light.9 = 9, -20.3, -2.25, -3.65, fx_F4E_C9ABU ;MOD, Alternative smokeless engine burner 1
;light.10 = 9, -20.3, 2.25, -3.65, fx_F4E_C9ABU ;MOD, Alternative smokeless engine burner 2
light.11 =10, -16.4, -2.25, -3.40, fx_F4E_C9AB_N ;MOD, burner 1 nighttime flame <<<<< didn't use this one, white flame
light.12 =10, -16.4, 2.25, -3.40, fx_F4E_C9AB_N ;MOD, burner 2 nighttime flame <<<<< Same-o Same-o

Finally add the included 'LVAR' switches to actuate the AB from the included panel.cfg to yours...

;LVAR switches/controllers for FSX <<<< Didn't use this one, borrowed from AS Avro C105 burner is throttle actuated.
gauge29=Phantom_X!Engine_FX, 10,10,10,10 <<<< DIdn't use this one either, Not in their update pack.

The Ab Flame is there but the round yellow heat disk is not there, just black disk.

GE - did you use the C9 coordinates or the ones for the AS? If the former, that may explain it ..

Gray Eagle... those 'instructions' were/are specific to the C9 ver. I haven't loaded them into the AS yet.... but there will be some tweaking.
One other possibility as to the burners not showing [apart from co-ords] is another 'light' may be toggling that affect to 'off'. [it happens]...;)

Been busy with a 2D pit for the 9 so am yet to fiddle with TuFun's burners in the AS birds ...;)

Yeah, kinda figured they were C9 specific but thought I'd give it a shot and just substitute the effects in the lights section.

If you do manage to come up with an effective adaptation of TuFuns burners into the AS Phantom, would appreciate
info on what was done. Thanks. :wavey:

All I did was switch the effects used for the original burner. No values were changed.
