AS F-4 Phantom

I found some texture files in the CS9 Beta5 update that I copied over to my texture file. And as you can see, it's starting to resemble the CS9 ab only there are rings extended out a little too much.

If you go to the lights section in the aircraft config.... the 2nd set of numbers for the afterburner effects will move the effects forward or backward. The 3rd set will move the effects up or down. I recently did an effects mod for the FS9 version of the Virtavia B-58 Hustler and the F-4 Phantom. After a couple of passes, I got them dead center. Be careful tho, going too far forward into the model and the "burner" glow will disappear.

I think I bagged it!

I did what you said about the lights adjustments and it was hit and miss. I would adjust just one burner to see results.

[lights]

//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing

light.0 = 3, -6.8, -19.37, -0.58, fx_navred ,

light.3 = 3, -11.02, 19.30, -0.72, fx_navgrec ,
light.4 = 3, -26.77, 0, 10.05, fx_navwhi ,
light.5 = 4, 19.684, -0.723, 2.606, fx_vclight,

//light.14 = 9,-12.50, -2.20, -0.74, fx_F4E_C9AB///fx_reheat_Virtavia Phantom ,
<original value="" in="" blue
light.14 = 9, -8.50, -2.20, -0.74, fx_F4E_C9AB///fx_reheat_Virtavia Phantom , <<<< First set of numbers (in red) was a guesstimate
light.15 = 9, -12.50, 2.20, -0.74, fx_engine_Virtavia Phantom ,
//light.16 = 9, -12.50, 2.20, -0.74, fx_F4E_C9AB///fx_reheat_Virtavia Phantom ,

Anyway,I think I solved the conundrum, I kinda like the results :onthego:

That looks awesome (and the "Playboy" repaint is just too cool ...)!

The same numbers seem to work fine for pack 3 as well (even though those numbers are different originally).

Thanks a lot for making this magnificent model shine in FSX gray eagle! :applause:

Got TuFun's AB effects to show and decent position BUT I cannot for the life of me get the AB to work off the throttle like most other planes. It only works by switching on the lights. I followed the steps above. I can get the Pack 3 (RF-4C) model/panel to run operate off full throttle but possibly recall something about the Pack 1/2(?) planes only working the AB via the lights but your screenies show otherwise. Appreciate any suggestions.

Got a fix for that. I am in the middle of packing up an AS F-4 "Patch" that will allow throttle control to the AB's.
Also, a decent smoke effect will be included. I have a readme that explains what to do with attached files
and other info.

Stand by.

Okay, I just upload a "Patch" for the AS F-4. Waiting for it to clear screening. Should be avail soon.

This patch will enable start up engine exhaust smoke effect for the AS F-4.
I used it for the Navy Pack 1 version. It may or should work for the other packs.
Also, a file is enclosed to allow throttle control AB effect. Read my read me for guidance on that and the
other stuff.

File name: AS F-4 Patch 15 May 14.zip

Hopefully, all the files needed and a read me is included to explain what to do with the enclosed files and stuff.

:adoration:

Update FDE

Another issue that really needs attention is for someone who is a FDE fixer upper to make FDE impovements to this AS F-4. When I fly it, it seems to want
to porpoise a little and I have to do what I can to steady it as it has a tendency to climb and I have to over correct it so that it will fly straight and level.

It can get out of control at times and go crazy in all sorts of directions. Needs a better leash on it, and maybe a fixed FDE would correct that.

It's really great that the AS Phantoms are receiving all this new attention as it is one of my favourites. Has anyone developed a work around to make the drag chute appear/operate in FSX?

Did not know that there was a drag chute. I am using the NAVY version Pack 1 and have not tried the non USN versions.
I suspect there is an effect for the chute or something in the MDL that needs looking at. There is a Converted to FSX version of Pack 2 and 3
available on simaviation by Bob Chicilo

Saw this info in one of the AS F-4 folders.

It is info on the drag chute setup. Haven't tried it yet.

EDIT

The animation is coupled to the Concorde Nose Visor extract/Extend (in FS9) .. this doesn't work in FSX ... I now only have to find out why, and if it could be changed ...

Parachute deployment AS F-4

As far as a deployed parachute goes and from what I have researched, it looks like the .air file would have to be edited, it is a long story but any way,
it doesn't look like that can be fixed.

It's a nuisance as the RF-4B from Pack 3 has a working drag chute (Using Control+w) I wonder if the Pack 1 and Pack 3 models can be adapted or mixed and matched?
