AS F-4 Phantom

I think your Phantom install is not happy with some of the FSX specific lines in my [TurbineEngineData] update. Try to go back to your previous aircraft.cfg [TurbineEngineData] entries, only make sure this line is included there, it is needed for the dragchute effect:

reverser_available=1

Thank you for all the help, I now have AS Phantoms with drag chutes and throttle activated afterburners. To try and avoid pestering you again I have been looking for how to disable the overspeed warning sound. This seems to be a very sore point with some in Flight Sim circles, is there a way to do this?

Go to the soundset folder you are using, open the sound.cfg file and and look for the [OVERSPEED_WARNING_SOUND] section.
Then change the filename into blank or "silence" like this:

[OVERSPEED_WARNING_SOUND]
filename=silence

I'm currently doing a widescreen [1680x1050] 2D panel for Pack1....ostensibly the 'B' model.
I'll post some pics when I'm a bit further along...;)

Here's one...;)

Need to add a mask layer to hide bits that should be...;)

Clean F-4 version

I wonder if it possible or what would it take to modify the textures for a clean (no external ordnance) version?
:engel016:

Reverse-engineering the VC....trying to make bits 'invisible'...found most of it/them...still vestiges to remove [if I find them]....at least I fixed the typo...it's not 'Emergentcy' on the canopy release handle....;p

Next I need to find the graphic background that is the small radar...;)

Although I'm not a real jet-jockey this thread took me back to the late seventies when I was still serving in the Rotyal Netherlands Air Force. I did two periods at Soesterberg and during the first period the Phantoms of 32TFS were still active at Soesterberg.

When I arrived for the second period, the Phantoms were replaced by the F15 Eagles. What a disappointment! The Phantom was real a warbird, the F15 was a computer toy for wizz kids! (well at least in my opinion). Jet noise used to be the sound of freedom, the high pitch noise from the Eagles was just irritating :biggrin-new:

The 32 Tactical Fighter Squadron was the only USAF-unit to serve under "foreign" command:

It's still got 'problems'....but the 4B VC at least has an ARS4 in it. [and under glass].

If I can find what's painting those 'bits' sticking out...I'll Paint-em black too [in the alpha].

Got a bit sloppy and grew a couple of holes near the left....better putty them up as well...and see about some knobs.....;)

It's complicated, basically you have to add custom BMP files to [Vcockpit02] & [Vcockpit03] - see attached.
Edit: And modified VC1.dds/VC2.dds which go into the texture folder.

Thank you for your service. I share your sentiments about the F-4 ; In what field of endeavor did you serve when stationed with the Phantoms?

I was a "weather man" or as we were normally called a "weather prophet". When I realised that computers were about to take over the weather offices, I decided to leave the Air Force.

Does the Panel.usn replace the original panel? I need a little direction on what to do the with panel.usn folder.

It is just like any other panel folder, you can use it to replace whatever panel you are using, I just added it to give Jafo some idea of how to solve his sticky bits texturing problem. So if you are not familiar with changing panels, don't try to fix what isn't broken.

Henk...yes, I'm currently editing them as my VC is not the same as the 'default' Pack1. The issue was/is my 2D has the little radar on the left...easy to move...but blacking the alpha to hide the one on the right only almost works...along with that panel of switches sticking up on the left.
The fronts disappear but the bits that imitate the 3D sides do not [I don't think it's a genuinely mapped 3D].

There are 8 images involved in creating the VC....the 4 you listed AND cockpit/2/3/4. I just need to find which 'bit' of which of the 8 paints those and turn its alpha black....unless it's part of the model hard-code.

Likewise with the sides of the foot-well....bit too black for my liking...want to drop the contrast...when I find it...;)

I've already replaced the VC2-1 and VC3-1 with my own - to match the 2D [needs some fine adjusting where they overlap].
I'll also see if the hud can get some changes...;)

Here's the VC noting the issues...

Here's the 2D it's trying to 'match' [a bit better]

After twiddling around, I managed to get my old panel back after thinking I had lost it. :dejection:

Think I will just keep it like it was. :adoration: To paraphrase what you said ; if it ain't broke....

This is taking 'forever'....
Convincing a VC to 'change' is sometimes a real pain.
I had to use a gauge-loaded bmp to hide a gap in the panel.....there's overlapping panels all over the place just in the main gauge section.
I just found the section of bmp that is the F16 radar BG....smack-bang in the middle of another image....clearly redundant.

I'll see what I can do to relocate it closer to the 2D position....and find what's painting those vestiges poking out...;)

Still....everything else is functioning OK....;)
