AS F-4 Phantom

AS F4B VC cockpit rework.
I gave up on those 'bits' poking out....they must be coded in.
Couldn't lower the F16 radar...and the gau doesn't like masks....tho lateral thinking has just given me an idea....

Here's the VC...

and 'matching' 2D

If I can find some good pics of the other vers...A...C...D...J...etc I might have another go...;)

Will this be made available as a replacement cockpit for the AS F4? If so, when and will some readme's come with it? I like the looks of this cockpit :adoration:

Just took my AS F-4B for a quick turn around the patch, and I don't seem to have those black things sticking up in my vc.

You will...if you try to alter the VC to remove the light switch panel on the left and the radar on the right.
The faces of each are painted by bitmaps but those remaining 'bits' are the 'sides' of a 3D form...and apparently coded into the model - unable to be 'painted' transparent...;)

I plan to.
I have a few more bits to revise as some of it comes from my C9 F4 rework and they're not exactly compatible....eg the flaps and gear lights 'animations' don't align on the AS panel the same as they did when drawn for the C9...;)

Having a go at the Pack 2 4s .... something that might be called an F4E...
The 2D is directly from what I was doing in 1680 for the Cloud9 one....but the VC is 'all new' to suit.
Got myself another Phantom book with some detail re cockpits....but the more you look the more inconsistency with what each model looks like...;)

The VC has more to do [as always]...;)

The 'eyebrow' is coded...so everything else must be fudged to suit...;)

Looks good. How do you get that convex glass reflection on the ARS4 scope?

It's a gauge on top of the radar...that paints an alpha image...and with a draw_order command in the panel.cfg it doesn't disappear when the radar gauge moves/refreshes.

The only one that can't be done that way is the f16.gau .... that simply refuses to have something paint infront....unless it's on a separate panel as an overlay.

Once I find suitable gauges/images that are otherwise too 'flat' I load a trans gauge over them to give the glass effect....and on a 2D panel you can load a second 'main' bitmap via a second window that is black everywhere except whatever gauges you want covered...and apply an alpha to the whole window...;)

F-4 Cockpit

Video of NAVY F-4 Cockpit onboard USS MIDWAY. BTW Love the Bosn' pipe on the 1MC. Never thought I'd say this, but it brings back sweet memories. :adoration:

Jafo: This cockpit looks a little different then the one you are working on.

That'll be because the one in the Vid is a 'B' and I'm fiddling with an 'E' [as close as I can tell].

My earlier shots in this thread are of a 'B'...with add-on revisions. It's a safe bet much of the junk above the 'eyebrow' were revisions/updates....pretty sure the same thing was the case with the contemporary 105s [I have a veritable heap of literature on those]...;)

State of the nation....
No idea what draws the small radar...I know where the bitmap is...just not what $pan number to load the gauge into....gonna be more trial-and-error....;)

Nope....working out how to add a gauge to that has me stumped. I can alpha it out to disappear but am beginning to suspect it was only ever a static bmp location not a $pan at all...;)

Video taken, am sure, in the museum at NAS Pensacola. They really know how to recreate the atmosphere!
I am SO looking forward to moving to P'cola in a few weeks!!! NC

Chief,
If you click on the you tube icon, it will take you to the you tube site where I got this video; there is a caption that reads:

THIS WAS TAKEN AT USS MIDWAY AIRCRAFT CARRIER AT SAN DIEGO :engel016:

Last time I was at the Museum, I didn't remember hearing any Bos'n Pipes; I'd like that gig if I was offered :)

RF4-E 1680 2D panel is coming along - designed for the Pack 3 RF models ...;)

Most excellent - if it's anything RF-4 related, I'll be on it like the proverbial fat kid on the doughnut.

The new Milviz "may" push me to retire my pack 1/2 - but it looks like pack 3 will be all the RF action we see in the sim ever - so any tweaks/life extensions will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers - and many thanks in advance.

Regard,

DL

I think I've got it ...can't think of much more else to do...other than accessing the config panel for the radar on the left via a popup...like the ARS4 has on the right.

The 2D...

This is ostensibly an RF4-E configuration without 'too many' liberties taken...;)
