BearStudios: MiG-15Bis for MSFS Released 3/1

Said I'd buy it at $30 so had to put my money where my mouth was. :)

Only had time to grab some screens and do a quick test flight during lunch, but did run into one weird thing: Anyone else seeing vapor trails shooting up vertically from the wing as well as behind them? Wondering if some other add-on is messing up the effects.

Overall it looks fantastic, and the flight model feels good from limited testing. Roll rates suffer at high speeds, really maneuverable slower, and definitely feels very different at high altitudes.

Panel looks great, although there are a ton of switches without tooltips and with Russian labels. Assuming those are all no-op/combat related.

Just the weird vertical vapor thing when pulling Gs, and obviously I don't notice that when actually flying the plane. :)

I got it earlier, it's a good model, pretty much the same systems depth since FSX which for then was pretty good. I wish I could add the DCS sounds to it, that is the only part I don't like.

Bought it. 24.95€ is a decent price.

Is there a way to get rid of those vapor trails?

Since this is a recently released model, doesn't this deserve a sticky?

Just a thought!

You're right. When I made the edit to the title, I had about eleventeen things going on at once and I forgot to check the box! :banghead:

Quick fix for the vertical vapour trails is to remove them...
Go to <MSFS>\Community\bearstudios-aircraft-mig15bis\SimObjects\Airplanes\BS_MiG15Bis\model
and edit MiG15Bis.xml (make a backup first) with notepad
find the entries for DragTrail_Left_FX and DragTrail_Right_FX
(should be lines 146 to 161) and delete them
Save the file and the offending trails should be gone.

So do I, I ended up buying it. A nice add-on despite a mixed review after the first uses.
I hope that the author will correct the small imperfections noted by the community.

I tried to correct the general metallic aspect. (Especially on markings).
I started a new repaint to replace the original "texture.USAF616" which represents the North Korean Mig 15 #2057 whose pilot asked for refuge from the American authorities by landing on one of their bases.
My version shows TC616 in Okinawa in 1953 with the markings of the 3246th Test Wing.

Dang ! Richard there was no way this going to be on my shopping list with so much other stuff coming down the pipe ... but as usual you have forced me into changing my plans with this repaint !!

@RichardLouis & ZsoltB: where will you guys be releasing those MiG-15Bis repaints if I may ask?

It is a shame that the spec files are all solid magenta so that everything on the plane is metallic, including the painted markings and even the walkway strips, tires, and interior. The markings on most of the skins are pretty well done, but the appearance really is ruined by the metallic sheen.

I hope as part of a repaint, someone releases at least a base set of replacement ROUGHMET textures for the main \texture folder so that at least the common parts are the right sheen. I don't have the skills to do that, but could probably handle the unique markings on the individual paints with that as a start.

you can trust Richard on this...

It would be nice for the Paint Kit to be layered .psd too, but they are .png. I can deal with that, but a layered kit would be better. Agree about the replacement ROUGHMET textures. Otherwise she is a beauty. I don't know how many other liveries one could ask for, the plane has beaucoup already. They even have a livery for the Tamiya MiG-15Bis model I built.

Yes, I like the fact that there are a lot of skins covering quite a few countries, and they include several of the preserved aircraft that I personally enjoy flying in the sim.

Many more skins are of course possible because these were used by so many east bloc countries and until quite a late date. Wiki lists over 35 nations that used the type. I would like to see a Hungarian skin or two, especially in camouflage, and some other countries like Pakistan, Iraq, Egypt, Syria and Cuba also would be fun, but there is certainly enough provided with the plane to entertain us if we can get the kustom metalflake paint toned down.

Other than that, I do like the way it looks and flies.
