Beech AT-11 KANSAN Released

I sure wasn't looking forward to converting all those textures myself. I'd already done the ones for the beta and it was mostly 888 32bit textures.

Christopher, and all FS2002 users,

Fortunately, I took today off and got started on this at 5AM. The flight model gave me fits but now okay, textures were reduced, a few gauge, panel, and effect changes, sounds changed, and 4 models were changed.

I have just uploaded a FS2002/FS8 version of the AT-11. Once approved, you can get it here:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=120&linkid=3492

I'll definately give this a try this morning! I'm downloading it right now!

Thanks, Milton!

In a way, I'm glad I'm not the only one with texture/poly problems with the FS9 version of the AT-11.. Hate it that Milton has to go thru all this extra work, tho..
After hearing the glowing reports from those who changed to the DTX3's, I can hardly wait to get my hands on the revamped version.. The plane is an absolute dream to fly, handled well, it will be really great to have some scenery to go with it ;-} (even if it is FS9 default scenery ;-} )

I will upload the DXT3 texture packs today.

Milton... After a too short and too sweet test flight my son and I give the FS8 (FS2002)
AT-11 Kansan 1000 pts. out of 100 Pts! It's ten times better than anything I've flown in FS98
or FS2002. The model is excellent, the paint jobs are fantastic and don't get me started on the
sound files! Pure Pavarotti! We tested the civilian version and the turreted trainer version
this morning! Did I see Film Cans in the AFT VC? :salute:

Thanks, Milton!!

Ahhh, that is great to hear Christopher :jump: By the way, they will be a few texture updates/changes for the civilian cargo version. Gonna swap out those FedEx boxes for some period stuff that I think you and your son will like. :)

That sounds interesting! :) Time-Life Magazines? National Geographic? Life? :wavey: Live Snakes?

Hi,

Nice view indeed ...
I just noticed (seem's to me) that your pic show the "canyoning rivers" phenomena.
If you want to make it disappears .. check for have this in your terrain.cfg

//Stream Lines
[Texture.1024] // stream lines / unknown / perennial
Type=1
Size=4
ExcludeAutogen=1
MaskClassMap=3
Textures=RiverSU.bmp
;offset=0

[Texture.1025] // stream lines / unknown / non-perennial
Type=1
Size=4
ExcludeAutogen=1
MaskClassMap=3
Textures=RiverSU.bmp
;offset=0

Note just in case:
terrain.cfg is located in the root of FS2004

DXT3 WITH MIPS Texture Sets Uploaded, Awaiting Approval

For those of of you who need something different, less size, better load times or frame rates, you might try this (WITH MIP MAPS):

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=7&linkid=3504

Read carefully: These 10 DXT3 folders replace the original 5 distributed with the package, and the 5 extra International texture sets available by Damian Radice. Package is about 28MB.

The aircraft.cfg distributed in the original download or the AT-11 was setup for all 10 sets.

The folders in this set each are 38MB smaller than the original folders for a savings of 380MB.

CAUTION: DXT3 textures with MIP MAPS will sometimes cause blurry textures. Zooming in and out will correct the blurries usually. If you have this issue, you can remove the MIP maps and just keep the original. Use DXTBMP or some other tool to do this. You should preserve your original folders until you have tested your performance with this set.

If you have trouble with MIP MAP sets, you may prefer to use teh NO MIP MAP set here:

DXT3 Textures Sets WITHOUT MIP MAPS

Dogknot converted the original 5 textures and the 5 extra texture sets without MIP Maps so I am downloading them to review. Once I validate, update, and correct a few, I will upload for another performance option to select from.

Thank you Brent.

EDIT: Just finished up with the NO Mip Map textures, packaging now for upload. These look a little better on my system without the MIP Maps and of course, they are a little smaller.

I will post here the link when uploaded.

EDIT2: DXT3 Textures with NO MIP MAPS uploaded, awaiting approval (20MB for all 10 folders):

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=7&linkid=3505

You may prefer this set of DXT3 textures if you have issues with the blurries with other DXT3 sets.

so the offset should be commented out or set to zero? Mine was at -10 for both.

For all of those who were having frame rate and load time issues, please report back how you do with the DXT3 textures. If you are doing well with them, then there is no need to convert the 4 models to a low poly VC version. However, if you still need the lower-poly VC versions, I will do them.

So, let me hear from you please.

Hard to imagine I would ever be saying this, but I'm sticking with the big bmps. I spent the last ten years converting everything I downloaded to DXT3 to be Be to enjoy flying at 8-10 FPS.

Now I set the fps limit to 50 and tried both versions. To be honest the only differences I saw were more related to the nearby scenery than the livery size. FPS would fluctuate between 35 and 50 FPS --all still above my normal setting of 30fps.

I did notice that the head on view gave the biggest FPS hit, but again well above my "threshold of pain."

Having said all this I really appreciate all the extra effort you put in, Milton, as I'm sure many folks are still enduring some of the issues I had in my "other life.":salute:
