Black Fuselage Colored Wings

additionally for the wing textures to show, there is something correct in the texture folder while the rest isnt

better still instead of uploading them, please check your private messages
 
I've just done a google for the Tom Ruth model and found it at Flyaway (sigh). A number of users there complain that they only get the wings and the rest is invisible (one user did use the word invisible rather than black). The install instructions do point to copying certain files from the default FSX Airbus so it is possible that the install has gone wrong. Regardless of this.. the files shown in the first screenshot are for a completely different model and won't fit.

Lee.. do any of the paints that come with Tom's model work ok for you or are you seeing a black fuse (maybe an invisible fuse also) with all of them?

Is the flyable Tomas Ruth A 330 model


can you please confirm are you trying to install textures on a World of AI model or Tomas Ruth flyable model as they are 2 completely different packages with different file names and formats and mapping

straight away from looking at the images with the files they are both named differently which is confusing me because Im not sure what model you are having problems with as you wont get World of AI textures to work on a T /Ruth model as AI mapping is downscaled by 100s of percent in order to save memory use even though it maybe the same model developer, the Level of Detail LOD will be dramatically different

however if you are only worried about the first model

I couldn't resist the challenge so I've downloaded and installed Tom Ruth's A330 and found an Edelweiss repaint for it..

Thats what Im thinking, Im thinking hes got a converted AI model or trying to install AI textures on a normal T/Ruth model

Im aware about Tom's models, I meant that a few of his models where LOD reduced and where used in some AI packages, hence the similar texture mapping, in this case the wings

from memory he also made some AI meshes however I could be getting the AI meshes confused

There are issues with the model should the install not be done correctly and/or it's not being used in at least SP1/SP2 but otherwise.. it's good to go. You have to use the two maps and cab from the default Airbus (and only these files.. a panel.cfg is already in place) plus the 4 _C textures (and only the 4 _C textures) from the default Airbus into each of the 3 paints that come with the download and Bob's your uncle. The Edelweiss paint comes with everything you need so no fiddling required. Just drop it into the Tom_A330 folder and add the cfg entry.

Final attempt.
This must be worth ruling out first.

At least your FSX allows you to check/uncheck the box. I have FSX Acceleration Gold Edition and my settings doesn't even have the box/Preview DirectX 10.
I have several aircraft which are invisible in the startup view pane and show black in the sim, or are invisible showing the flight crew dangling in the air above the runway.
The invisible aircraft even cast shadows.
Some even show fully colored wings on the flat black fuselage.

Nick is always worth paying attention too. He knows a lot about the sim. Glad some one listened. If the sim is broken, fix that first !

Lee was trying to put a paint from one model onto a different model so that was never going to happen so we've got that sorted even if the underlying problem remains;)

It may not be the cause of the particular problem with the black fuselage of course,
but it could be the cause of the other problems.
 
I know that using 'Repair' is pretty tiresome if you've gone down the SP1/Acc route as both have to come off before you run it but would Lee have the same problem with Gold? I'd imagine repair on Gold will up to task but have no experience of it. I reckon it must be his next course of action.

Looks to me to be two different aircraft models you all are mentioning. "Tom" and "TFS". One is AI and one UI.
I've not run across a flyable made by "Tom" though.
It looks to me like the texture "Main" is misspelled or not labeled correctly, therefore not showing up. It should be "main.dds"

FSX Edelweiss Air Airbus A330-300. Texture only package for use with Thomas Ruth's A330-300 model (TOMA333B-1.ZIP) in Edelweiss Air livery, registration HB-JHQ. Model requires SP1, SP2, or the Acceleration expansion pack in order to be displayed correctly. By Ryan Gabuyo.


And I am running FSX SP1, SP2, Acceleration......I have FSX Gold Edition.
 
That's exactly what I was saying mate. The two textures in the first shot point to the TFS A330 and the second set of textures are for Tom Ruth's model. I've no idea if Tom made the TFS model or if TFS make them 'in house' but the TFS paints should work fine on the TFS model. Me thinks DD73 has got a tad confused.. we've all done it at some point;)

Nope, two different aircraft with textures supposed to be for those individual models, neither of which show up.
 
if its a case of using another models textures on another model, theres your problem, jim and Dave have nailed it

either way

it has nothing to do with your aircraft.cfg, if you have made an error in the paint entry ie sim= or model= or texture= is messed up the selected paint wont show up at all in the aircraft selection list, and if its a data in the entry is incorrect all aircraft paints after that paint will fail to show as well

but if you have copied a normal entry and then just changed the texture= title= ui= data while using another model paint then you can run into this problem

regardless the problem is within the texture folder and its loading, as mentioned if its a share textured, the texture.cfg maybe in correct

or the texture format is in correct, willy's post is partly incorrect fsx dds dxt 1 thru to 5 DDS DXT5 the preferred, or extended bitmap formats preferably in the 32bit format

can you please zip up that texture folder and upload along with the texture.cfg, in addition can you add a default texture folder that comes with the model

I can compare the 2 folders and that is the quickest way to to identify and correct the fault using the few developers mapping programs Ive got installed

it could be something as simple as the fus textures for that livery are named incorrectly or saved in another format the model doesnt accept

either its a every easy fix if you know what to look for,


No, I only put textures for the aircraft specified. Didn't mix them between the two aircraft. I used both aircraft trying to find one that shows the textures.

If I remember correctly, (I deleted both A330s) the Air France textures worked on the Tom, but not Lufthansa and not Edelweiss.

I did a reinstall of the sim in another location and now get the register error.
I have to find the fix file for that and apply it.
The reinstall does allow me to check uncheck the box.

I am going to try and map the install again, this time to the C:\install and see if I get the box for preview of directx 10.

I have completely deleted Thomas Ruth and will find a flyable and AI and appropriate textures for the airlines I have on my install.
I lived in Germany for 3 years and rode my motorcycle all over western Europe.
I like flying FSX in Europe and just wanted to have appropriate textured aircraft.
Unfortunately, WIN10X64 is not MS Flight Sim friendly.

Thanks for all of you helping me out on this.
I found Some HJG textures which also show black on a DC9-20, so I deleted it also.
I have gone through the flight plans and deleted all traffic bgls with any mention of aircraft which do not show proper textures.

One of these days I will perhaps have an FSX I can actually "fly".
