BSK Malta Scenery Problems

Hi KD. I took off from Laqu field and headed straight to Kalafrana. I think the green oil tanks/fuel tanks are causing it. This time I was a very odd shadow that appeared whenever the tanks were in view, it disappears (and my plane renders normally) whenever the tanks are not in view.

It looks like some giant object is overshadowing that area. Try slewing up to 20,000 feet and the object might come into view.
 
I wonder if it's a screwed up Aussie/Maskrider object library causing the issue. I seem to recall Aussies library being fixed & reissued a while back because of some issue.
The shadow looks like it's the LW_watertower01 object...

Maybe redownload the MR objects library?

I've been playing around in the Mediterranean recently and decided to give Malta one more try. At first I didn't get anywhere.

I tried all the suggestions in the posts above, combining the folders, using the files from the Pedestal campaign pack, nothing worked.

The problem is that the CTD doesn't happen on starting a flight, like most of the time, but only later, and then not always...

When I select Free Flight and select the airfield at Hal Far, after starting the flight I go to outside view and "look" at the airplane from the right front the game almost always crashes.
I made a test mission, a fighter sweep with four Bf-109s heading from Gozo towards Valetta being intercepted by Hurricanes coming from the direction of the airfields when near Valetta.
After a few minutes of dogfight I get the CTD every time.

It is not the airplanes, I tried several different ones, and it is not the GSL, I tried the new one, the original and none at all, no difference.

In the end I found out that it must be the "ValettaNEW" BGL file in the BSK Malta V2 Scenery folder.
Removing this file of course makes the Valetta scenery disappear, but without it the mission and also the Free Flight experiment work every time.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about how those files work, so I can't repair it, but at lest now I have a workaround which at lest enables me to use the rest of the scenery and the airfields there.
 
I remember there was a problem and it was related to Valletta. Seems like Rami had instructed to remove one scenery and add another if flying near there. My brain is foggy. I will see if i have anything in my install notes. Been too long. that was one install I had a lot of issues with because I was still learning how to follow instructions. :)

Yeh... i'm missing most of the objects.... i'll find and d/l whenever...as they did'nt come in the pack.
 
Not to dog pile. But I'm also experiencing CTDs with Malta. More often than not after flying out of Hal Far (but not always). There is no consistent rhyme or reason. I installed Malta in to my MTO install per Rami's instruction, so not from an auto installer.

I noticed that the BSK Malta Objects file updated a few things versus my original install, but the CTDs still occur.
 
I'm seem to missing a few objects one is a model chaintower.... does anybody know where these can be found???

Also... i do get buildings and trees.... but don't know what it's meant to look like when correctly installed.

Also found a revised version of the GSL... this is confusing.

The “chaintower” files (.bgl, .jpg, .dp) can be found in Gary Burns’ CFS2_BoB_manual_install_2.0.zip file, although it should be noted that the version of the .jpg file is different in that archive from the auto install archive.

Rohan, rhanks for the HU.... but if the rest of the missing objects are in other addons.... think i'll give a miss... cos there a few if em... and i really don't wanna mess up my pacific install
 
I think the objects are included in the BSK Malta V2 scenery package, at least those that are required for the city scenery.

The GSL is not relevant for this, as the problem seems to be caused only by the ValettaNEW bgl.
 
Gary’s RAF buildings is a prerequisite download for Bruno’s BSK_Malta_V2.zip. The file that I referenced above contains the latest version of those buildings.
 
I spent some time loading each of Bruno's scenedb/inf/scenery bgls into MCX as his ValettaNEW.bgl seemed to be calling for cityscape bgls that were held there(?).

I noticed in a few instances that textures were missing when MCX loaded the bgl, & wondered if this could cause the CTDs.

The missing textures were:

BSK_Valetta2.bgl
Sandbags.bmp

BSK_Saint_Paul.bgl
Oilbs0.bmp
137b2su1.bmp

BSK_Marsa.bgl
Roue_bus.bmp

I've attached a zip with these textures.

The files Sandbags.bmp, Oilbs0.bmp and 137b2su1.bmp are all parts of a standard CFS2 install, so should be present – unless somehow they have been accidentally deleted. However, the file Oilbs0.bmp could have come from an installation of the prerequisites for Maskrider’s files, and that version is a different size from the default version – I cannot say whether his smaller version is or is not a cause for the CTDs.

On the other hand, the file Roue_bus.bmp comes from another of Bruno’s files - BSK_Malta_Bus.zip. This archive is a prerequisite for the main Malta archive - BSK_Malta_V2.zip. However, it seems that the contents of the bus archive are rather convoluted, so that unless particular care was taken during installation it is possible that Roue_bus.bmp was not installed, which may be leading to the possibility of a problem at run time.

And, if the correct installation procedure for the bus was followed, then it should indeed be in the aircraft folder as just suggested by Kevin . . .
