C-47 (FS9) uploaded

I'll be uploading three poss four schemes on friday, Cuban, NASA and El Salvador, if I get the time to finish the Vietnamese Air Ambulance, that also.

Just went to FlightSim and spotted an excellent variant of the C-47. It's a Navy R4D-5 "Que Sera Sera" with skis, radar nose and antarctic livery. Woo-HOO!!!

Alas, after downloading it, despite it being clearly labeled as an FS2004 model, a quick glance
texture files' format and file names
clearly showed that it's for FSX only.

I went back to FlightSim to see if there might be an FS9 version mislabeled as FSX, but no joy; the version I downloaded is the only version there.

Are we going to have an FS9 release of this beauty?

I sure hope so!

Thanks for the HU, Mick.

You know... I took a real hard look at that plane. I poked the file on Flightsim and looked at the included screenies. Dead ringer for bump mapping and self shadowing, I thought. Then I read this post... The textures are in dds format, definately FSX. RATS!!!

I will second that motion to see one for FS9, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I would love to have that ski-equipped VXE-6 bird for FS9 as well ! Mike :jump:

I CANNOT believe SOMEONE hasn't come up with a utility to batch-convert dds to bmp! :censored:

I think someone may have done that. I saw mention in another thread (don't recall which one) about something like that.

But in this case I think there's more to it than converting the textures.

Ah, this is it. This was posted by Shaggy in another thread:

"... http://www.irfanview.com/

"Irfanview is a free software that can convert big batches of textures to loads of different formats ... instead of loading each bmp file into photoshop, gimp, paint etc and convert them... "

I don't believe the texture sheets are the same for the FSX and FS9 flavours of this aircraft - which is why I'm still waiting patiently for Wild Bill Kelso's FS9 RNZAF repaint to emerge...

Actually, the texture sheets for the FS9 and FSX aircraft are exactly the same - with the difference that they are mirrored horizontally, and that the FSX textures are in DXT format and twice the size of the FS9 ones.

In order to convert them (which I do using DXTBmp), you have to take both the C47_1_T.dds and C47_2_T.dds texture files, flip both the texture and Alpha, size them down by 50% and resave them as .bmp files; and copy/paste the texture files from the FS9 basepack textures without overwriting the reworked C47_1_T.bmp and C47_2_T.bmp files.

However, you first have to export the alpha channels and resize the textures and alphas separately before importing the alpha channels again ; if you try to resize them as one whole, things can and will go wrong - as I found out the first time I tried it.
