JanK agreed that it was a bit too bright and said he'd change it when he got back from his trip (as quoted underneath that shot). It's on his list;)

Ahh... Thanks for pointing that out. All I saw was "Let's hope I wasn't too fast, if you find any errors, let me know and I'll fix them after my return"

That's good to know. :adoration:

Some repaints of the last flying C-97G.

N1365N, last flight was 2003. Sold at auction to buyer Clay Lacy, together with N972HP + N29862.
In Nov.2008 at Greybull seen being worked on inside hangar; it seems owner wanted to bring it back to its
military configuration, so the tank was taken out. Repaint covers N1365N in 2014. Still at Greybull.

Ice Patches

Jankees:

This "Angel" looks great! While you were out, C-97 "ice patches" came in. You could add them to your paint. See earlier posts for info.

Earlier posts do not have instructions for adding ice patches. I would like to know how it's done. Anyone??

Ha, I thought I'd check with you guys first. Only then will I change the file at OZx.
Does the angel have the ice patches, can't really see them on the pics I have?

Jan, if you look towards the edges of the wings, you will see some dark squares, those are the ice patches

MJ had a post that contains a file for the repainters to add them. I learned how to add them to previously issued repaints that did not have them.

OK, ice patches coming up.
One more question: the tail behind the serial, is that bare metal or painted? (if so, what color?)

Does this picture help any? The real one is undergoing repairs and it looks like the tail section of the real one has been removed in various videos of the engine turns.

The flight controls on the angel are silver-doped fabric. When 52-2718 was originally painted as 45-59595, the flight controls needed to be recovered, so the decision was made to leave them unpainted until they were recoevered. They have since been recovered and are silver-doped fabric. They will probably stay that way until the aircraft is repainted.

Yes, it has the ice patches.

Now, instead of slogging from the UK to RAF Tengah in a Hastings, you can travel in style!

A wee work-in-progress. Just have to sort out the specular for the fuselage and do the stairs in RAF-appropriate colours. The serial is lifted from one of the block assigned to the stillborn Vickers Wild Goose project.

I almost finished two more of the last flying Strats.

22307246ge.jpg

Boeing C-97L Stratofreighter, c/n 17005, ex 53-0223, Stratolift N4580Q. The aircraft was used as a fuel hauler, but got damaged by fire 18th May 1989 in Unalakleet/AK, while offloading fuel. The hulk is still in Unalakleet Airport today.

Boeing C-97G Stratofreighter, cn 16673, ex 52-879, Agro Air HI-481. Sold and on civilian market as N197KC then as HI-481. Operated by Belize Air International. A/C sadly crashed after departing Mexico City-Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX/MMMX) on July 30, 1987. The aircraft, carrying horses to Miami took off in an overloaded condition. Cargo shifted on climbout and the aircraft collided with a high ground before crashing onto the busy Mexico City-Toluca highway. It was the last fatal crash of a C-97.
