Good question QS. Here’s another: Does anybody know if (or think that) Virtavia will ever release anything as freeware?

Sure they have. And I appreciate all of it. Perhaps a better way of phrasing my question, and it's also a good one, is: Are we (as long-time AS customers and flyers) going to get the same level of support and concern from Virtavia that we received for so long from ALPHASIM?

I didn't mean to stur up anything bad, I was just wondering if Alphasim (Vitaria) would ever release the FS9 model of their PBY Catalina as freeware

sorry, i have to mention that: the support i have received was only necessary because the products i have bought were somehow inaccurate. (trim wheels, rudder pedals, contact points, manifold px, FDE...) However they have/had very peculiar planes, a monopoly if you like.

AlphaSim has been very good to the FS community in releasing their older models as freeware. Let's not turn this into an AlphaSim bashing thread.
 
I have been "Alphasimming" since the old FS98 Cold War collection days and have nothing but praise for Alphasim.:salute:

Alphasim did great exterior models. Interior also. They may not have been the creme of the crop in the clickables but, they did make a huge variety to choose from for anyones desires. Not to mention great on frames.

I have never meant to impugn ALPHASIM in any way whatsoever. I've been a flyer and enjoyer of their aircraft since I first got in to FS9. In point of fact my first payware purchase, and many subsequent to that, was from them. My point is - and i'm sorry to not have been more clear about this - is that the morph of ALPHASIM into Virtavia has, in MY opinion, been rather lacking in information about their customer support phlosophy (especially for previous ALPHASIM purchases) and stated plans for it going forward. LA
 
That's the third question. And it is the third question that assumes that something is amiss. Why don't you find out for yourself, instead of scattering insinuating assumptions around?

Shortly after Virtavia released their first batch of (formerly) AlphaSim payware planes, I e-mailed them asking if/when they planned to once again make the P2V-7 package available. Never got a response (I don't think their e-mail drop was working yet) but no problem, couple weeks later the P2V-7 was up at their vendor sites. They certainly answered my question. :d Let's give Virtavia some time to get things rolling, I'm sure that they will provide us with some good stuff in the AlphaSim tradition, and good customer support as well.
 
Looking at the makers/authors of the aircraft in my collection, Alphasim is the most represented. I have Alphasim planes coming out my ears...all freeware. I have Alphasim planes in CFS2 and FS9...and have never had a problem with any of the aircraft that a little tweaking to my personal taste could not fix. My top five favorite aircraft are all Alphasim releases: Cessna T-50 Bobcat, Consolidated B-24D and J Liberators, A-10 Thunderbolt II, Lockheed C-130 Hercules, and the C-141 Starlifter.

If I had money burning a hole in my pocket and was inclined to spend that money on payware sim aircraft, Alphasim/Virtavia would get that money. There are a number of planes in their product line that I keep hoping to see added to the freeware list...the top being the C-7 Caribou....the only real aircraft that I have been inside of (about 6 years ago, there was a C-7 at KMFD for the Freedom Festival...part of a Vietnam Heritage/Memorial flight group).

The second and third payware aircraft I ever bought were AlphaSim releases. One of them, the F7F Tigercat has been my favorite carrier aircraft ever since. Money well spent for all the hours of pleasure it has given me.

I think what the gentleman would like to know is whether Virtavia will continue the Alphasim philosophy/ tradition of releasing their older models as freeware to the community.

Many of the folks who staffed AlphaSim are now affiliated with Virtavia, so I see no reason why they wouldn't eventually release the PBY and other older FS9 designs as freeware if sales drop off to a point where they may as well give 'em away. That probably won't happen for a while. For now I'd be happy to see Virtavia just make the PBY available as payware again. I haven't seen it listed yet at Flight Sim Pilot Shop or Sim Market.
