Cessna 195 for FSX

The landing lights extend and retracting using the keys C and V which are associated with the concorde visor extending and retracting. When I add landing lights in the cfg file I can turn the landing lights on and off via the switch in the cockpit or L on the keyboard. Is there any way to combine the two separate functions via an XML coded gauge that will turn on the lights with the extension of the wing lights and visa versa?
Can an expert in XML provide any help to solve this combination of functions?
In FSX those keys are assigned differently V=Capture screenshot, and C=Com Radio select. Concorde visor and nose(extend) and Concorde visor and nose(retract) are available in the FSX controls menu, but are unassigned.

I have the FS9 and FSX SDKs. Neither of them has an "event" listed, that would allow me to move the Visor/Nose from a gauge on the panel. There is a Visor/Nose gauge in the FS9 Concorde.gau, so, I know there are events available, but it is written in C and I can't determine what, exactly, they are.

I put the Concorde control in my panel but selecting down functions have no effect on the C195 landing lights animation. I don't have FS9 loaded so I can't test in the original sim. There may be some local variables in the model's animation that need engaging or possibly something like a hydraulic or pneumatic system function missing.

I love a challenge like this, so, when time permits, I'll pursue it further...Don

Landing Lights for Shakey Jake??

Don--After a little more searching, I found c195km_p.zip by Ken Mitchell in which he addresses the landing light switch and moving the visor in XML codes. I do not know how to combine those functions in code. Maybe you can look at that panel and assess what if anything may be done to create a single functioning XML gauge. Your interest in this problem is greatly appreciated. Thanks Tflyingbear.

Not to change the subject but is anyone else working on repaints?

Don, yours came out great!
Rick

@Tflyingbear, I can't get anything to deploy the landing lights in FSX.
Do you have the Ken Mitchell panel installed?
If the LL Extend switch works on that panel, I might be able to combine it with the Landing Lights themselves. It's xml does include concorde visor scripts that I couldn't find documentation on, but that is common throughout the SDKs.

@Rick, Glad you like it, and I appreciate the comment...Don

Landing lights for Shakey Jake Model??

I have the Ken Mitchell panel installed and it has separated XML switches for each function.

I have added as an attachment, I hope, Ken Mitchell's XMLs for your assessment.

Thanks,

Ha-Ha! I should have made myself a little better understood! I installed Ken's panel in my FSX C195, assigned Concorde visor keys, created a visor gauge, and used the FS9 default visor control. Nothing I've tried, has worked to deploy the landing light animation in my plane.
I wanted to know if Ken's switch worked to control the animation for you in FS9.

I used the xml visor script used in Ken's "extend", the normal lndg lts, and combined them into one for you to test.
It does toggle my seperate landing light switch, so, IF Kens mouse events are recognized it should work.

Put the C195Xdcb folder in your gauges folder and add this to your panel.cfg 2D cockpit window numbering next;
gaugeXX=C195Xdcb!LndgLts-Ext, 50,50,28,40

It will be in the upper left corner...Don

Landing lights for Shakey Jake Model??

Don, I am using FS9 with Ken Mitchell's panel at this time. I disabled Ken's two switches and added your new input. The switch appeared exactly where you indicated it would be. When I start C-195 the lights are on but the wing light devices are not extended. When I click your switch, the lights go out and the wing light devices extend. The switch ICON, however, does not move. When I click again the lights go on. When I click again the lights go out but the wing light devices continually stay deployed down. The switch will now just turn the lights on or off without changing its position. Thanks again for your help. I hope this information helps.

I missed a closing bracket in the gauge. Spaces..Brackets..Ugh!
I deleted the one in the previous post. Delete yours replace with the new one and try it again.

I created and used a different internal variable than Ken's so you can keep his control switches to synchronize the lights and animation until we get the single control sorted.

To be sure it is loading without a "saved" influence, load up a Default Cessna and set everything up "Cold and Dark' then change to the 195.
When the plane is first loaded, then powered up, the Lights should be Off and Retracted.

If not, I need to know the status. I may have to create an initialize routine.

I don't want to check their individual status from within the gauge and script a sync. That could cause a firing loop and must be avoided. I have no way of testing for it without FS9 loaded.

If we don't get it this time, PM me with your e-mail and we'll take this private until we get it right. Then we'll share...Don

I'm using the updated panel, where as in the previous flight some gauges were missing.

Also messing around with the engine sound, just grabbing sounds from different soundsets... maybe not exactly correct sounds, but I wanted something that sounds different than the Baron soundset. Hopefully someone who knows what their doing will create a proper soundset. I defiantly don't know what I'm doing, and you will know once you see the video. :icon_lol:

When I turn the lights on... mirror mode.

When I turn the lights off... stealth mode. ;) Dark gray look pretty good too!

TuFun,
Great video--Thanks for posting

Did you make up the sound from several planes ?

Rick

Wonderful to see this beautiful aircraft in FSX. Top job. Can anyone tell me what the texture names are for the external by chance. Vancouver Island VA has a C195 same as the one your working on here and im trying to figure out which textures I need from the folder to make it work in FSX, any help appreciated.

CG_1976, The exterior only textures are the Map1/2/3/4T.bmps, cowl_t.bmp, wheelpant_T.bmp, and you'll also want the prop texture posted above...Don

I have Lion Hearts Papsed Skylark
Has a great radial engine sound

I am using that sound package

Ok here is few pics. trying to figure the panel and the paint?
What panel are you looking to use? There are 3 variations that I uploaded for FSX. One standalone (C195xSJpnl.zip), updated recently, and two included with a paint(SJN2161CDCB.zip).
A native FS9 version is also in the works.

If you want a custom panel for your VA, I can help you with that too.

The paint looks good, but, you might want to tone down the Alpha(shine).
The Alpha channel is greyscale. Lighter = less reflection/glare...Don

Ok thanks for the panel assist. I got that one (C195xSJpnl.zip). Works perfect. As to the paint, I'm no painter and still not up to par on the Alpha's, let alone my only paint program is paint.net.

. . . . . . . .As to the paint, I'm no painter and still not up to par on the Alpha's, let alone my only paint program is paint.net.
If you don't have it yet. . .go download Martin Wright's utility "DXTbmp" from here:
http://www.btinternet.com/~mnwright/programs/dxtbmp.htm

Use that program to load the textures you want to repaint. One of the things it does is show you the alpha channel, which you can send directly to the paint program where you can tone down (considerably) the alpha you have for that paint. As Don noted, the lighter the alpha (or color gray) the less shine.

Also DXTbmp will convert your textures to other formats (DXT3, DXT5, 32bit, etc.)
