Cessna 195 for FSX

May I ask what you use to repaint?

I reallly want to get into that aspect of FS...

RIck

If you want to go with something free for painting, Paint.NET is the way to go. Numerous plugins available including a PSD file format reader, which is the format that many layered paintkits use. (Photoshop file)

GIMP is also nice, but the UI is kind of tricky to use.

I'm having a problem getting the spinner to look chrome. I'm using a gray base color for the texture and a dark alpha, which in the past produced a chrome effect, but for some reason, no matter what I try, the spinner remains a flat gray. Is it possible that the material in the mdl file for that area wasn't set to allow chrome?:salute:

It took a little tinkering, but, it does work without editing the material. I used DXTbmp, and Paint.net. I copied a lighter section of the top wing texture, made a transparent mask the same size of the spinner and used that new greyish circle result as the spinner's texture.
Sent alpha to editor and used concentric circles of the original Alpha colors. Dark outboard, progressively lighter inboard, in roughly 20 pixel steps. It ain't perfect but it did work...Don

Are you able to povide that as an update to your original update?

I'm still working on a few tweaks here and there, and started doing, at least attempting, a repaint of the beauty that Cirrus N210MS posted.

Still lots to do. A ton more if I decide to tackle the interior. Here's a peek.

@ Cirrus N210MS, can you post a few good shots of the cockpit?
I'm working on a matching panel for it and could use a little help with gauges, their locations, and interior colors if I decide to re-upholster her.

When she's finished I'll upload it and the tweaks I have...Don

I downloaded this Cessna 195 last night and took it for a test flight. I don't know who uploaded it, but I got it at flightsim.com. I was skeptical as it loaded up at first, then once it came to light on the screen, it really doesn't look bad. The exterior has way too much reflectivity though. Needs to be toned down quite a bit to rid of the mirrored effect on the painted areas. And more a personal thought, the polished chrome areas (for the model in general) I feel are a tad over bearing. The spinner, well, that sucker should shine. I know, it's a port over. Just sharing some input is all.

I haven't downloaded the panel update that was available for it yet

Yep found that one late last evening. It ports to FSX perfectly with the exception of the VC panel which looks like chrome rather than the nice wood that shows in the texture file. Looking into why that is this morning.:salute:

Could you please point me to the right file?

Thanks a bundle!
Sascha

Go to flightsim.com, and do a search for Joe Binka, everything you need is on the first page of the search results.:salute:

Thanks for the heads up! I just copied it from the flightsim library page and never thought to check after posting(duh). Removed and pointed to your working links!...Don

You need to download the panel update posted by Don....Turns it into a great aircraft!
I'm assuming everyone who sees this thread and OleBoy's links will get the version that includes my panel update.
