ok after checking a lot of stuff in EAW I find out how we can fix the the models form having errors when exporting a file

or get as what you guys call a "Guru" form SimHQ to help us use their files XD seeing the major prob we have is just translating the plane I noticed some files work but other don't the come out hacked up this is a problem we need to fix other wise we can't get any of models without some major rework :p

thanks yeah if their is a way to get the files form IL-2 I think it might be possible as for scenery I do have to note that Jane's WW2 fighters a lot of scenery that could be used as well also I'm planing on getting IL-2 and European Air War to get some more files to use

The 3D model development tool is 3DZ which Microprose wrote specifically to develop their various games including European Air War. It was done back in the day when the first version of Windows was released and the computers of the time were very limited in RAM, and graphics cards were basic. Necessarily, it had to be very frugal in the size of each model. Therefore, there was a specific number of points allowed to connect the model wireframe together. As a proprietary 3D tool, it was never compatible with any other design tools that I am aware of.

In order to make more detailed models, the community came up with work arounds techniques which included duplicating wirepoints. When you are trying to export these models to some other format, these "cheats" are likely what is messing with your results.

Please see my other response post to you in the 4 New Planes for SCW post. You should not use the EAW models without asking permission from the developer. The community is active today and most models, scenery, etc., will require you to get permission to modify or otherwise use them.
 
A model of a box in gmax has six sides and four vertices. The computer will translate this model as twelve sides and twenty four vertices. If you build a model in gmax of a box and compile it to say a bgl, when you decompile and covert back to a 3d model you will see what you call extra lines in a 3d modeling program.
converting models to dfx will always lose textures and maping. Few polygons,textures and good LODS in models for cfs2 are best. Remember it is a very old game engine and has limits.

thanks for the info sorry I see your point on that well I think I found a better alternative it makes the rest look useless but I also think we need to ask permission for it IL-2 has a huge list of planes and mods that can be converted back and forth a lot more easy through OBJ it will take some time to pace them together in Gmax good thing about these models is they have multi-lod, VC, also i do have permission to use the textures form some site for now the name is hard to remember but anyway can any one tell me whats the status of IL-2 SAS site in terms of use of the files as well as ubisofts are they ok with it if not I guess the limits us a lot for now

also I do note that we are trying to model the planes to the look as close to the stock models so and that dose mean reduced detail
so should we use the Stock planes for IL-2 in order to save frame fate of should we use their mods to improve the look but after

reading Robert John words more carefully yeah I see now
I do note that their mods are better then most of ours if see what they fixed a lot flaws in the modeling of the planes so mods could used to help us seeing if just used the stock planes we have to improve something that been done before I noticed that all their have multi-lod models files and up to 5 lods are used in place, caps (witch covers the intersections of the plane) collision (form the sound of it also a internal part of the plane)

so we got a complete model that suits our needs in in every way it will be ideal to use their mods to improve our planes and have a resource base for people to make their own but I see that just to cut the work load down we should pick planes that don't have fixes in our list but I'm suggesting that we should keep library of all the models in a Gmax file just encase we need to update a model for further improvements I see that the P51D and B P-47D need multi-lod fixes we could start with those then

ok I decided here my plan I think we should stick to stock models for IL-2 if i can find a way to also get the scenery form IL-2
also I think that Jane's WW2 fighters all stock files could be used as well for other improvements

sadly if use any of the mods i think we need to ask for their permission right now what i want is just get the the stock files so can see what we can do with those first then ask later i think the stock files are more then enough I'll update you guys on the models I can get into Gmax

Hi Jed, You have noticed the different sims... Il2 , LockOn , strikefighters, Cfs2, etc etc have different pros and cons. You are not the first who has thought "hhhmmm how can I make this better?.... Maybe if I could just....."

well there are one or two members on this forum who may be more familiar with those who should be asked, I wouldnt know who.
Some might be of the opinion that one should really learn to make the best of what each sim has to offer, if you like fast jets and guided weapons, lockon and strike fighters do that, if you like super accurate flight models its got to be Il2 if you like a sim thats easy to tinker with CFS2 is the winner. I have asked microsoft several times for CFS2 source code or permission to hack the CFS2 dll s. I have to say they were not negative, rather reluctant to reply. The source code is not available, maybe lost or locked up by a deal to sell fsx source code to some big player in the arms trade. As to h@ck1ng CFS2 modules. I have looked into one or two and theres some interesting things going on behind the scenes. How-ever a great deal can be done with CFS2 by simply learning how to manipulate the mission scripting. Mission Builder has some limitations that can be easily got round by hand editing mission files, there are also flight files that can be used to set up cool views of the action not normally accessible to those who are stuck in the GUI. Check out this by the way.

ok I'm having a bit of a prob it's called lack of money XD I did want to get the IL-2 game but I don't have any money seeing I just wasted it and new graphics card in case your wondering witch one it's a GTS 450 it's a powerful big card if you ever seen it but yeah i got it and now I'm broke for now i can't even buy IL-2: 1946 witch a far more complete version of the game I could get for 4 bucks but with 5.99 shipping but I need to save some money to get it so to get back on track

I think I'll start on Crimson Skies as my project at least in this thing i can make most of the stuff it's uncharted territory for most of the SOH group :p
so any one want to help me let me know other wise I'm going solo on it =_____=#

All the best with Crimson Skies, but don't bail out on CFS2 - still plenty to be done.

I am about to do some serious re-skinning for the Spanish Civil War upgrade and a small list of other aircraft - had to put things on hold for health reasons but I will now have a bit of time up my sleeve to do some things I have been wanting to do for a while. Once the reskins are out of the way will be doing some modelling - have some scenery objects and aircraft that I want to make.

ok i just looked at yours the only base they have that sounds like part of the city in WW2F map is Bonn? or is it Bonn-Hangelar in CFS1

ok after looking in to the games resource I can mostly for sure say my collection of resource is complete you name I got it or I can edit it so i can say we do now :cost1: note IL-2 1946 is the almost one of complete set of planes sets of all time it would be if we had permission with for the mods too

my plan now is to convert the P51D-20-NA yeah I'll be starting on the Allies then the Axis just one thing

I've been thinking of the skins set up and I noticed they have a good set too I like Il-2 skins set up but I also like CFS 2,3 detail maybe I could make the void skins they (I got a lot of them too) to match up the look and feel of CFS2,3 skins this dose mean CFS 2,3 skins will be obsolete

or in order to save skin :p should I convert the compatible form CFS3 skins only and then make the rest look CFS2,3-ish? just a thought
I just need to know before I get in working on this. :wiggle:
