PORTSMOUTH, I may add more ships and boats.

Fantastic work!! If you ever need a working vacation to warmer climates I have some locations in mind. :)

Beautiful work there R, looks very 'life-like' IMO.

Port area is fantastic, is none of this affecting FRs?, and how much more detail can you go to?

Also, I think some of the trees need some serious trimming..;)

Cheers

Shessi

Thanks rbp, I'll keep that in mind.

I've significantly reduced autogen objects in the area between Chichester and Portland as it was more a reflection of modern day development, so this should reduce FPS . I'm adding new objects but probably removing more autogen objects in areas of interest.

A lot more detail can and will be added in the future when I can create or import more raised objects for the harbours . I imported a flat topped small factory model from ' il2 1946' which can be seen placed next to the battleship. Too many similar models can destroy immersion.

I'm considering a rework of Dover harbour next, without the black factory buildings which as far as I can tell, don't have damage modelling. This may affect FPS, so we shall see.

Seriously, I'm considering smaller mos/facility urban models for placement near harbours, docks and town centers, which would mean less trees in these areas. These would be smaller versions of my previously created city and town models that could be placed between road and rail routes in cities, so we will have a mix of these and autogen objects. These would also be placed where autogen objects are a bit messy.

I love the way these look. Transforms the whole feel of the area.

Since you’re working on the Solent area, have you considered doing the Sea Forts? There were four guarding the entrance and used as anti-aircraft and searchlight platforms.

These look interesting, I didn't know that they existed. I will have to see if I can find more detailed pics.

Sea fort for Sale
The real estate bloke says it has stood the test of time, but now unfortunately not the test of somebody wanting to make a quick buck.

Yeah, seems like at least one ought to be preserved and made into what would certainly be a really interesting museum.

When you're done we'll have to port them into the latest BoB!

Well this whole project is a mod for the latest bob.

A later task will be to sift through the Bob missions to find missions that target the London docks, Portsmouth and Dover.

I know That Dover missions place a shipyard facility as a target and London docks missions have randomly placed objects as targets which will clash with my harbour models. I'm not that familiar with the mission builder though I do see area target facilities in the facility folder. I'm assuming the area target facilities will target all objects in a specific area. I can create new target facilities for each harbour , adding ships and oil tanks in buildings to mark them as targets. I will have to read up and experiment with this a bit more.

Mentioning harbours, here is my version of Dover harbour inspired by Clive's original model. I created my own version because it was a fun thing to do, and to provide a continuity of style when compared with my other harbour models.

Fantastic work! I just wish the CFS3 terrain didn't half try to model the harbor, which really messes with attempts to do it properly. I think your model does a good job of still making it look natural. May I suggest a cleaner or more high resolution texture for the dock upper surfaces?

I agree , I had to distort the shape of the harbour a bit to fit the terrain, which made texture mapping more difficult. I have already edited the surface texture though I could clean it up a bit more I suppose . I could try capturing close up google images and splicing them together to create a higher res image, we'll see. I like using photoreal textures, though they do require quite a bit of editing to remove modern vehicles and some buildings.

I recall that in missions I rarely got very close to the ground surface except perhaps to crash .:)

I need to find out which missions target the London docks, Portsmouth and Dover because the targets will have to be updated to take the new harbour models into account.

I can create new target facilities with accurate ship model placements in the new harbours and docks. Theses would have to be placed at exactly the same co-ordinates as the harbour models in missions.

If you have the latest BoB and the gsl. facility files, you could see how the placement of the docks and harbours are in the gsl compared with yours. I could then alter any names and locations in the missions concerned. Let me know which old facilities are replaced and the coordinates.

Thank's! this will be a great help. When I'm finally done with Dover I will create target facility files for the harbours mentioned and supply you with the relevant info.

The Southampton Blitz was the heavy bombing of Southampton by the Nazi German Luftwaffe during World War II. Southampton was a strategic bombing target for the Luftwaffe as it contained both busy docks with associated business premises and factories and the Supermarine factory building Spitfires in Woolston.

I googled whether Southampton was bombed during the war and this was the reply, so I guess that will be my next modeling destination.

I don't think you need to create new target facilities to place in missions for those facilities you have already placed in the global layer. You should be able to assign global layer targets in the mission builder.

I created a simple bombing intercept mission a few weeks ago with the new Portsmouth harbour as the target in the mission builder and the bombers flew over the target without dropping their bombs. If I remember correctly I used the way point attack with bombs command.
