City Textures rework

Did the waypoint snap to the target in MB? Also, I have noticed formations of bombers often fail to drop bombs through no fault of the mission set up. Seems like an AI quirk often gets in the way.

But I assume we have to edit existing missions to fit the new items? AFAIK, if the waypoint states the bomb command, in the mb the wp will snap to the nearest object, factory, rail station, or whatever, whether a gsl facility, or an added facility in the wp.

The waypoint did snap to the new Portsmouth harbour model.

I checked the '18 August Hardest Day RAF 610 Spifires Biggin Hill' mission which contains this line: <Facility ID="9472" Type="mission_target_facility_15k

I was just wondering how this worked and if using this facility was more reliable in ensuring that bombs are definitely released?

I would prefer for targets like ships and barges to be permanently placed in the harbour facilities, so that they would be visible in free flight mode as well, rather than having to add them in the MB when needed .

I believe mission_target_facility_15k and others like it are simply blank facilities that are typically used to generate spawns of aircraft or vehicles.

If your mission is still not working it might be best to have some folks take a look at it. I don't have ETO installed right now (my heart is in the Pacific), but if you copy your mission and paste it here we can take a look at it and might be able to see if we can help.

Cheers

Mentioning harbours, here is my version of Dover harbour inspired by Clive's original model. I created my own version because it was a fun thing to do, and to provide a continuity of style when compared with my other harbour models.

Yes it was due for replacing, especially in light of all of your recent work in that area. I was lazy and never got around to the damage modelling etc.

As we've discussed before, all of your work could be rolled up and put into a new BoB update and improvement package.

Keep it up! :)(y)

I changed the mission directive from strike to anti-ship and was literally blown away by the complete devastation to shipping, came close to bringing tears of joy to my eyes.:ROFLMAO::LOL::ROFLMAO:
Was not expecting anything to happen due to my past lack of success in getting the bombers to release their bombs, almost had a bloody heart attack when it did.:)

I'm hoping that search and destroy might work on the buildings as strike is not working for this kind of mission.

THE DEVASTATION WAS QUITE SATISFYING, THOUGH I'LL BE READY FOR THE BUGGERS NEXT TIME

My Dover model mark2 with a new higher res texture which I think is a great improvement on the previous texture that I created for my il2 mod where FPS was a serious issue. The terraced housing to the east of the harbour was demolished to make way for the Gateway flats in 1959, so I removed said flats from the texture and replaced it with terraced housing. The texture was heavily edited to remove tons of tourist busses. Most objects had to be adjusted to fit the new texture.

I went on a Talking heads bender this week, downloading interviews and some of their albums from YouTube that I have on vinyl with no turntable to play them. It was great to listen to them again.

I really enjoyed this concert, the ladies were spectacular.

These look interesting, I didn't know that they existed. I will have to see if I can find more detailed pics.
The Medway Sea Forts were part of a hugely expensive series of Palmerston fortifications built around England in the 1850's to deter the French from invading good old Blighty. Like many Defence projects the threat had moved on before they were commissioned but as substantial constructions many were utilised in WW1 and 2 with weaponry upgrades.
To protect the Thames and Mersey approaches from German aircraft, E-Boats and minelayers the Maunsell Forts were emplaced from 1942. These were steel oil rig type platforms with guns and radar of 2 different types with a few still extant today (1 was used as a pirate radio station in the 60's). I believe at least 1 E-Boat was sunk.
In July 2007 an Army style fort was made for CFS3. I have found the .zip file but unfortunately the Readme is not signed. This shows a single platform. The Army Forts were made up of 7 such platforms joined by walkways. The Naval Forts were of a more robust design and stationed further offshore. Apparently these were not popular postings so non-swimming servicemen were assigned!

:D"Join the navy, see the world" they said.

I made a model of the Maunsell forts some years ago, I think they are in the ETO install. It would be nice to have the earlier ones too!

Decided to take a break from this mod and fired up cfs1 because the missions are a lot of fun. I have in the past created texture mods for the hurri and I think the spit cockpit as well. The terrain is very dark and I wondered what a lighter terrain would look like. With the help of some good videos playing in the background I brightened 100 of the 300 odd textures. The sea texture ans some coastline have been completed. The aircraft textures will have to be edited as well to match.

This is truly impressive. Well done.

Looking good. BTW let me know when you would like a new challenge on the Dambuster dams, which are horrible at the moment.

Damn! I was having a lovely snooze on page 2 when I was suddenly bumped back to page 1. o_O

No dramatic update, though I haven't been idle. After Dover it has been back to London where quite a bit of work remains to be done, working on the dock models and reworking landmark mos files and textures.

Coastal forts and castles are on my 'to do' list. I love old historical buildings and in the future I'm considering creating modular castle sections for castle placements on the map.

Hi R,
Good update, thanks...thought you were slacking somewhat...;)

Like the bb's, nice view looking along the Essex/Kent border and the Thames on a summer's day. You could spend a long time doing just the building along/in the Thames alone, but would be very interesting.

Everything looks very good scale and 'right' to me, great stuff!

Cheers

Shessi

ps Also thanks for the Hilary Hahn YT vid. Not something I would naturally look at, but did..and enjoyed it, beautfifully played.

Looking great! I could not be more excited about this project.

I've appreciated Hilary Hahn since she played in the soundtrack for The Village. I always love her work.

And if you'd like to get rid of the bright blue water on the Thames, may I suggest the following?
